Whoah this game needs help big time.

Okay let the flames begin. One thing, I have a pretty decent computer AMD 64 bit 3700, 2.5 gis of ram, Nvidia 7950 GT 512 megs, two 250 gig hdd;s and extigy external sound card. The game runs very well for me, with some minor ini tweaks and some minor tweaks in the graphics settings. The world Sigil created is immense, very good looking, nice textures and jaw dropping (good job guys). Now for the reason I dont see myself subscribing to the game, one word animations!!!!. What the hell, this game has DAOC quality animations, spells, char animations, mob animations. The world and graphics overall look like today's but the animations of chars, mobs and spell effects look like something straight out of 1999 or 2000, way outdated and poorly done IMO. Another reason I will probably not be joining this game in retail is the sound, emotes, and the music. The music is poorly produced, sound is weak and uninspiriing, char emotes are terrible, basically anything related to sound is horrendous, especially the spell sounds, creature sounds etc. I dont know what Sigil is thinking but you guys better up the animations, spell effects and please for the love of God make mob sounds, and char sounds better. This game will have a poor sub rate, and I dont think it will last long unfortunately. I do give a high five to the world graphics, view distance, and entier design, its very well done IMO. I will stay in beta since its a free game on my hdd but once its done (unless they change everything I mentioned) and it goes to retail I am out of here. Oh and I currently play WOW, EQ2, and Guild Wars campaigns 1 to 3. Sorry but I am a casual gamer who enjoys the graphics, spell animations, sound of all of the games I play. Each game I play has some good and bad things but they all capitvate and suck me into their world, Vanguard doesnt.

I'v been reading up on this, it seems they have a lot of animations done, but have yet to put them in.  They also have I think it was 4 people currently dedicated to whipping up new animations at this very moment.  I'm replying this to you because I read this off there BETA FAQ the other night, I'm trying to find the link right now as soon as I find it I'll post it.

Umm no I dont see anything that says working on new animations that are more visually appealing or stunning. Nothing in there says that so this 16 almost 17 gig crapfest is now uninstalled from my hardrive, not worthy of appearing on my pc thank you. Its kind of sad actually oh well, I am having blast with my WOW, EQ2, Guild Wars oh and awaiting the beta for Gods and Heroes (that may be fun it looks nice) Sorry Brad but we dont want to play crappy 1999 games anymore we want quality and your engine and overall game is dated too bad buddy boy, take a look at WOW for instance art style and ,lower polygons, awesome animations rule the world. Overhyped and bloated graphics dont, EQ2 has a bloated graphics engine but it has a certain something that makes it appealing to me but your game doesnt. The appealing thing is really cool spells, animations and not NPC's that just look like they are retarded. One less sub for you.

You are hearing impaired right?  The music is the absolute best in any game ever....I will agree the animations arent mind blowing but I don't mind them at all.  This game is awesome even with the bugs....better than any game out there at the moment.

You also cannot really judged the game when you have only played 10 levels or less.....think of the first 10 levels in any game for that matter and they are not going to be exciting....although VG's are up there with the best IMO.  Vanguard begins to shine at lvl 15 and onward.....its a shame most people are not giving it a chance,

Remember it is still in beta....the devs have really only begun to optimizie the game and it gets better and better every day.  I have no doubt it will be whipped into shape by release.  More people have to realize they were invited into a stress test of a beta game....its NOT a free trial.

You probably havent even had a chance to do any group hunting,...this is also where the game shines.....it brings the community back together which has been missing from all games sinces EQ1, DAOC and UO.

Give the game a chance before you dismiss it.

They will have a decent size of subscriptions starting off.  I think the numbers will go up after 2 months when the game is more stable and the WoW players get bored of TBC.....also there arent any good PvE games coming out that can hold a candle to VG.

And as another poster pointed out, currently they are working on improving animations.  Brad has stated that they have a TON of artists working on them atm.

Yes, we can and will judge it based on the first 10 levels because this is where people will start t play the game, and if these 10 leves doesn't do anything to you "immerse you" then some folks will look elsewhere..I agree that it will not matter in the long run or for those folks determined to play Vanguard anyway..But Its VERY important to do a good first time impression for some folks..

The areas in wich the newb adventures takes place looks alright , now they only have to add SPEECH to every NPC. When will they add that ? Next week ? Because they need to hurry if they should make the release in a month or 2..

Sorry, but I was beeing ironic, but they really need that, and thats no joke..

Ohh and BTW the start out 10 levels of EQ2 is a truly wonderful experience, you should try it :) Really really immersive

All hail the miracle patch, when will they patch the fun in? Performance is better than it was 4 months ago, that is some accomplishment I suppose.

This is a quote from Darrin about Spell Effects from the Beta FAQ:
    • Will the spell graphics be improved?
    • Yes. There is a team/slew/heap/boat load of artists working on it as we speak.

The team is working their asses off for this game.  I have trust in them, as they have assured everyone that they will be patching in live just as much as they are patching in beta 5(Pretty much once a day, if not more), so that is very encouraging.  Brad has stated that the dev team is coming in at about 9-10am and working until 4am.

The music in Lineage 2 is far superior. You say that the game is in beta and the dev's are still optimizing it, yet you point out the fact that it is a stress test.

    Sorry to disapoint you guys

I am profesional animator - And i can guarantee you this

Changing animations in the game would be the same undertaking (time/effort wise) to lets say Sigil deciding to rewrite the whole game engine from a scratch.

They will have to re-adjust everything , ranging from textures to models. And than bake it & prerender it again.  And if the game is 17gb now - you will get a patch of at leat 8 gb.

This was never ever done, in no existing game until now. And imagine this - it took them 4 years making original animations - how long will take them making new , much better ones ?

Again, i point out - this was never ever done in any game

As for spell effects. I can see that happening easily. Spell effects are nothing else than fancy textures on transparent polygons.

So i guess that one is true.

As for animations, dont get your hopes up. Once made animations stay in the game , no mather how crappy are they.

I don't know about anyone else. But if animations and sound are the worst things they do for the game then I really wouldn't be complaining. Also the sound..... sounded great to me so thats a big matter of opinion.

Yeah, 'cause Graphics are those things that keeps people searching for hours on end on Ebay and paying $100 to some random person they don't know just to play Super Mario Bros 3.

I have to disagree.  WoW does not have "awesome" animations.  I have no opinion of the animations in Vanguard as I haven't experience them.  But I have played WoW and I've seen them and they don't impress me as being "awesome" or anything beyond that. If anything, everything is so much cartoony-like.

What do you mean you haven't experienced them? If you've played the game, you've seen the animations. You can view them as soon as you log in such as silly toon animations of people skating around jerkily. You can also see them in combat such as bland melee attacks that are redundant, or perhaps the farce of a class, the Ranger, who can't seem to fire off more than one arrow before the monster is on him/her. Animation is a complete travesty! At least in WoW it actually looked and felt like you were in the game. Vanguard leaves an empty-cold feeling of wondering what the heck is going on. Sure the graphics are nice but beyond that it has no resemblance of a playable game that's appealing. There's just no immersion whatsoever. It's HORRIBLE! I can't remember the last time I've seen such horrible animations and gameplay.

Now now, you are forgetting many other aspects of the game that are lacking.

At the moment, racial abilties are missing.  The furry races lack tails (Hey, its important to some people).  Little things, like normal wildlife (fish in the sea, animals grazing).  NPCs having some sort of life (instead of standing at their spot 24/7).  So many things are promised to be in shortly after release... how many will really make it?

The guild management tools (and lack thereof) are terrible.

After 4+ years, you would think that little things that make the world feel alive would be in place.  Instead they spent the time going through 4 combat revamps (completely redoing the combat system).  Scraping the harvesting system in exchange for one more WoW like, revamping diplomacy into the Magic: The Gathering lite it is now.

Between performance issues, lack of immersion in the world, Guild management tools that will turn off alot of guilds.  I appreciate the work done, but it falls short of a great game.
