    I don't know.

WoW grabbed you early and pulled you in.

SWG tossed you right into the action.

    Vanguard... yeah.

    Vanguard... yeah.
And that, folks, is exactly what is wrong with this game.  It's just not fun, especially in the begining -- and first impressions are everything.

playing the beta is nothing near where vanguard is going. patches are bound to take this game to a new level and have u watched the videos. just because the first ten levels suck doesnt mean anything because level 10+ is where the game takes off... mounts sick quests all kindsa exploration.. ships! ships for christs sake. UNCHARTED ISLANDS dude u guys are judging this game way too early. a real mmo player doesnt care about the first 10 levels because they are always the gayest.. this is a living breathing world and u can basically do anything. if beta wrecked ur opinion u arent true to mmos

    play:LoTRO status: dragging
tried: WAR, FFiX, WoW, Guildwars, Silkroad, Vanguard, AoC, Sword of the New World

Ah, the ever-present cry of the blindly faithful...  "It could be.... it will be... it should be...  one day..."  This game is so close to release, no major changes are going to come.  You can speculate on the future quality of the game all you want, but until it actually HAS that quality, "fun level", and outstanding gameplay, there is no reason to play it NOW.  The best thing is to just wait for them to get their act together and THEN play the game.  But the previous poster was right, if you can't get into the game at all within 10 levels, it's not going to encourage you to stick around.  Good games DO draw you in from the beginning, not leaving you feeling bored and uninterested.

Saddly we are almost to going Gold. So yes, unless they pull an SWG or EQ 2, the game isn't going much further.  Maybe to the discount bin.

I didn't need to watch the videos, I played the slide show...err... game.  And yes, I am greatly impressed by the patches and the speed they are pushing them out.  But its a little late for sweeping changes like they are making.  Then again, the MMO golden child WoW continues to make sweeping changes to talent trees, so I can let that slide.

The first 10 levels need to get your attention, keep it.  If I playa game, and the beginning sucks, the rest will suck also most likely.

    Mounts, every game has mounts.

Yes, the quests make me sick too.

Exploration is ok, until you run into a 4 dot spider the size of a small house.

Ships...who else has done ships... lots of games.

Uncharted islands, tells me either A.  They were too lazy to mark them on a map, and B.  Its only uncharted until someone finds it and leaks it to a spoiler site.

The first ten levels should not be the happiest, they should give you a sense of purpose in the world, a reason for being.  In Vanguard, apparently your purpose is messenger boy.  Or exterminator.

I wouldn't agree that it "sucks".  I do agree that some of races first 10 levels need more work.

    Mounts, every game has mounts.

But, not done the same way that Vanguard is doing them.

Yes, the quests make me sick too.

? - Not sure what to say, they didn't make me sick.  Some were bugged though, so they got added to the fix list.

Exploration is ok, until you run into a 4 dot spider the size of a small house.

Heh, that's the part I like about the exploration.  It's not any fun if it's not dangerous.

Ships...who else has done ships... lots of games.

Player built ships that you can control?  Umm... I can think of one.  Perhaps you can list the "lots"

Uncharted islands, tells me either A.  They were too lazy to mark them on a map, and B.  Its only uncharted until someone finds it and leaks it to a spoiler site.

LOL!  Now I know you're just trolling.  You can't honestly believe that do you?  If so, then I just don't know what to say.

Some of the races are better than others, I agree.  However, if you're stating that none of the current OR upcoming MMO's will have you doing messenger or exterminator quests in the first 10 levels... I'd call you a liar.

Btw, Guild houses in game will cost 100 Platinum.

    100cp = 1 Silver

    100 Silver = 1 Gold

    1000 Gold = 1 Platinum

Hope your guilds didn't want a real guild hall anytime in the next year or so.

Vanguard is overhyped way too overrated even before its release. And the things people are listing here as revolutionery or different are also promised in many other upcoming MMO"s..hell Conan promises all this and even better stuff but who knows whats going to happen when that game releases. I am not going to buy hype this time. I have bitten twice badly now by DNL and Vanguard.

A MMO can't be successful if it caters to needs and interest to selected few. The reason why WOW is so successful is because it has something to offer to everyone..young or old. Look at the state of RYZOM. Its hardly making money and recently Gameforge took over it to save it from dying. More people means more money and long life of a game.

Amazing thing is that people still saying its just a BETA so things will improve. For God's sake its only 14 days away from release. It can't get any bad then this. EQ-2, GW and COH had a lot better content when launched. In my opinion buy this game and play it. Because more and more people should check this overhyped sorry excuse of MMO on there own and decide.

And dragonace the reason why i didn't come back with a detailed reply is because i am still playing BETA. The moment i am done with it, i will give you reasons why this game is bad and nothing revolutionery like SOE and its fans claimed it to be.
Some things that are DIFFERENT in Vanguard than EQ2 or WoW:

    1) Real-world Player housing

    2) Player controlled flying mounts

    3) Combat on mounts

    4) Player-built & controlled ships

    5) Fellowship system

    6) Caravan system

    7) Crafting system

    8) Character creation system

    9) Unique class abilities (Necro's Abom. & Druid's weather spells for instance)

    10) The size of the world!

So, Getalife; what things DON'T exist?  You keep wanting to compare Vanguard to DNL, since your earlier comparisons didn't stick when I pointed out the DIFFERENCES in Vanguard.  So, now you're on this crusade to get it linked to DNL.

I am not linking this game to DNL. I mentioned DNL just to prove that hype just kills and disappoints. So better back up the game with content which sadly SOE didnt do.

Real world player housing is nothing revolutionery.. ever heard about this game called WURM ONLINE? its an asshat game for asshats, programmed in Java. It gives its players housing facilities. So not something i heard for the first time.

Player controlled mounts are also available in WOW's new expansion and yes like VANGUARD they can fly all over the world. (and same goes for combat too) and yes there were mounts to travel in DNL too.

I really dont care for player built and controlled ships. There are some major performace issues in this game. And people are certainly not going to play this game just for making ships and travelling in them.

Crafting system is better then EQ-2 but still nothing revolutionery. It doesnt even come close to crafting system of RYZOM.

Caravan system is something different and i like this feature.

Character creation system..ok i would really like to know what so different about it? only because they let you play with features of face? if you look closely almost all characters are clones of one another.

I like unique class abilities but still its very limited. Have you played Guild Wars? its not like a true MMORPG but it has the best class system and abilities with second professions for your character. Still nothing OH MY GOD awesome about it in VANGUARD.

The size of the world is huge but so was DNL's and EQ-2 is huge too and so is RYZOM. But whats the point? i dont want to run around in the empty world where there is nothing interesting to do.

I am still not done with BETA. But once i am done i will put forward some real facts not VANBOY crap.

Well im playing Vanguard Beta, but im not going to be drawn into this Hater vs Vanboi drama until i have experienced the game a whole lot more.

But Im not going to keep quiet when an outright lie/exaggeration is posted. Whether i hate the game or love it the file size on my hard drive for Vanguard is 16.6 gb, not 27 gbs. woops sorry that was a mistake its 17 gb not 27 lol.. i ahve been playing the beta so much that i cant even see properly. :P anyways whatever i wrote except for the size of game is true. Nothing so revolutionery or mind blowing about this game.

Why don't you get a toon past level 30 and come back here making those same statements..Nothing so revolutionary?? I'm getting sick of thse people who tried VG for 4-7 hours getting a character to maybe level 10 max then see them coming on here bashing the game telling us its just like any other mmo,its boring, the quests suck,no good rewards, blah blah..Since when do u see any of this in any MMO in the early levels??? NAME ONE MMO THAT HAS ENABLES YOU TO EXPERIENCE ALL THE WONDERFUL FEATURES IN THE FIRST 10-20 LEVELS!!!!!!!  EVERY MMO STARTS THE SAME..Boring,dull,and weak.. You start off by getting familiar with the game, its controls, the world, quests, your starting areas,etc..EVERY MMO STARTS OUT THE SAME!! WHY WOULD THAT CHANGE???

Dude,do u honestly believe EQ2 is more revolutionary and mind blowing than Vanguard??? ROFL!! I played EQ2 in beta early fall of 2004..The only revolutionary feature in EQ2 was how beautiful the damn water looked..The character models were to plastic barbie for me..The hair looked like play doe..But one thing I will admit, the character races does look better than Vanguards right now..But they're working on that..

There are no player owned and runned ships in EQ2..No player controlled flying mounts,no aerial combat,etc..These are features that are revolutionary and mind blowing to me..

EQ2 was horribly made..To many boring classes lacking diversity and uniqueness..Everyone looking the same. All armor and weapons looked dull and boring..A rusty dagger looks exactly like legendary daggers..How dumb is that..We all know what the endgame is like in eq2,and I can guarantee Vanguards end game will be much more challenging and fun..

Our guild was the first guild to finish a 24 man raid encounter..We killed the level 44 6 dot raid boss named deathfang..It's a huge cockatrice..Anyway,this encounter was alot of fun and challenging. And it's considered as a "low tier" raid boss..Just a warmup to good things to come..

Seriously,u cant make these ridiculous ludicrous statements If you have no idea what your saying..Getting to level 10-20 is child's play..By the time you get past level 20,thats when the game starts to truly pick up.. If you stick aroud long enough, you'll see..

I will name one game:  DDO.

    What a piece of garbage.

And no I'm NOT having performance issues it runs fine on my comp and I'm NOT on a personal crusade against SOE or something.

Hard to believe they "developed" 5 years this game. Theres hardly anything good about this game.. It's BIG.. but thats about it. Lacking everything else.

And drop the god damn POTENTIAL crap. Are you people really that stupid you think they will do MIRACLES NOW?!?!

LOOK at the fracking game thats the result of 5+ years in development WHAT DO YOU PEOPLE THINK THEY CAN ACCOMPLISH IN A YEAR?

If you really like this game then CONGRATS TO YOU, but don't give them your money in the hopes that they will patch in the fun soon.

I wouldn't consider this at all factual right now (the same dev that said it, also said it is subject to change) and will easily change. I'm level 28 now and I've only managed to save up around 30 - 40gp. There is no way that they are going to stick to this when the average guild size is less then 100.

Actually I think Vanguard will emerge as another eve online in 2 years after the debt gets paid off in the next 6 months and the bugs are all fixed. These guys roll out updates fast.   The over all world design and quest system has huge promise and potential.  Brad- keep it up Those recent updates kicked arse!

to me VG is like a wow EQ2 blend, with way better graphics and a DAOC style combat chain system.

Requirements are a bit high, but... this is a next gen game. You can drop your settings, or you can upgrade. I just built a new system this summer. Cost me around 1200, and was my first upgrade in 3 years. Game looks like this on my system.

    http://files.filefront.com/VanguardHQavi/;6528206;;/fileinfo.html

    Crafting and Diplomacy are awsome.

The world is huge, and gives plenty of options. Unlike wow where its this zone or that zone... you have quite a few. Dont want to do this zone, try this one, dont like this dungeon try this one.

The world is stunning, the spell effects even at low levels are very attractive.

Quests... sure so far they are a bit dull but so are wows, but the environments are nice =)

    **edit to clarify Environmenets.

One of my main loves for wow was that one zone didnt look like another, and there was some very unique zones. But there wasnt alot of interactivity.  Sure there were some absolutely stunning areas (Shimmering flats for one a personal favorite)

VG takes this to another level. Not since Asheron's Call have I walked over a hill and been "stunned"

The trees... The rolling hills... Seeing a town in the distance and walking TO it instead of just having it appear at cliping plane. Actually noticing your in a mountain valley. Noticing floating objects that you know you cant get to now but one day...

CHOPPING A TREE DOWN... extremely cool, and then noticing the guy next to you has chopped down some too.

Swimming accross a river, you actually have to fight the currents.

Hills and valleys, actually having nooks and cranys (like the den of wolves thats underneath the fallen rock. All of these features add something that other games havent had in a while. EMERSION. Actually feeling like your in another world, not just another game.

Things like this are wonderful design and vision- I seriously am going out on a limb predicting this game will emerge after time as an outstanding MMO based on the fixes and updates within the next 6 months- leasson to all CEO's dont sign with the big names and dont overspend- stick to the project schedule and say no to debt.  Ah well.

long as games require multimilion dollar investments you will have early releases.

Cant hardly think of a game that released when ready and not early

Wow is not overrated, the ysimply took all the mmo elements and perfected it, That is wow for you. And vanguard will not have even a fraction of subscribers that wow now has...they annouced wow has hit 8 million subscribers in january 2007.

    so?

There is nothing else to play ATM and WoW is the newest game out with the biggest advertising budget. WoW has had no real competition since it released.

Now there are three new Mainstream games coming out and I will be suprised if wow doesnt take a extremely large (30 - 40%) population hit by 2008

If anything, the most over hyped, over rated game in the gaming world is WoW , plain and simple.  Don't kid yourself of it being the best or anything close to it.   It may be better then many of the games of it's kind, that's it but it's not all that either.  You have about as many players hate it as those who like it.                                                                                                                                                                                    I expect Vanguard to easily surpass it once it gets going.  Give this game a bit of time to iron out the kinks and it may surprise many people.  There's just no way you can accurately judge a game by either it's beta or by just playing it a few days as many have done here.   Beta does not offer all it has, no matter the game, ithey never do.   All it's content and fixes come along as the game does, with time.

Wow is not overrated, the ysimply took all the mmo elements and perfected it, That is wow for you. And vanguard will not have even a fraction of subscribers that wow now has...they annouced wow has hit 8 million subscribers in january 2007.

And it will keep increasing you know why? because people enjoy simple things in life and WOW is simple. There is nothing in the market which can even put a dent on WOW's popularity.

In a year, I doubt you will be around... but if you were, I'd love to refer you to this post =)
