This rootkit the game installs is a PITA. I don't like the idea of a program taking control of my computer, especially one that regularly crashes or makes my network unstable. I suggest they find a less invasive method of preventing hacking, something that runs on their computers.

What is PW?

Gameguard is installed with the Acclaim version of the client. If you dont have it, then you are running the PW version.
Ah ok. sorry was half asleep when I had read that. PW Persistent Worlds yeah it suddenly sinks in. I've had GameGuard with other games in the past, Mu Online for instance, and I have to agree, nothing could be more useless and annoying. It's never worked at stopping hacking and just serves to annoy players so much that people just stop playing. Every game I've seen that little horror attached to has become a total stink pit of crackers. No they're not hackers, real hackers don't have to cheat a game. They're something far lower on the internet food chain, crackers, people who use someone else's work to crack a game and then try to pose as hackers.
Acclaim, you may as well have shot yourselves in the foot, all that piece of useless garbage does is encourage the idiots to make dummy loads to replace the file and then some other idiots to infect the dummy with trojans and keyloggers so you wind up with a forum full of idiots crying about their stolen accounts. The people who make GameGuard should be sued into bankruptcy for false advertising and turning game after game into trash.
Anyway he's right, play the Persistent Worlds version, at least they're willing to monitor the game and watch for cheats instead of trying to rely on junk software to do their job for them and instead ruin a good game.

That may explain why I couldn't find a download anywhere on their site.
The PW servers shut down. If you want to play 9 Dragons in English, then you need to play on the Acclaim servers.

Every game that I've played has gone through the same pattern of abuses, Acclaim's been around too long to try and plead ignorance about it but I'll tell you exactly what you can look forward to (unfortunately). First you'll get people who are going to hack the game, the money is just a start, they're already making dummy files to put in GameGuard, one's where the CRC matches but the info is all removed. Next you'll have people downloading these files, some just because they're sick of not being able to tab, others because they want to use the hacks (problem is others take the dummy file and infect it and the hacks with trojans or keyloggers). Then your forums will be flooded with people crying about their accounts being cleaned out or stolen (usually just cleaned out, someone will log on pass the goods and cash to another dummy and then on to the final, sometimes "cleaning" items by falsely selling them via shop but in secluded places to their own characters on different accounts. Eventually the game just wont be fun anymore, especially as the hacks begin to spread, usually everything from speed hacks to screen nukers (everything around including what you're fighting mysteriously dies, they get massive xp, you get squat.). They'll occasionally catch and ban the really stupid ones but by then the problem will be so out of control the economy trashed and playing such a PITA you'll just prefer to leave and find something else, anything else, rather than put up with another day of it. They may wind up selling off the game rights to someone else but then it'll just happen all over again.
All this because they'd rather rely on junk software than pay people to monitor the game, or get some decent, trustworthy volunteers to help.
Welcome to the machine

ya, that's a big problem on SRO reason I don't care for the game anymore. But SRO problem is that they don't have active gm's in game. I've seen the same gm's in game everynight just hanging around answering questions and showing off weapons and gear, asking players to help them testing things. I've been playing this game almost a month and i've seen the gm's and talked to the gm's more than I did at SRO and I played SRO a year and a half from beta to release of the game. I'll play this game as long as they assure me that they are ontop of the game which so far they have been. I mean it's Pro-Open Beta and they ontop of these issues and resolving. The game hasn't even hit Open-beta yet. I hate to see ya go, but I understand completely from what you are saying if you don't play.
Players should bring this matter to Acclaims attention as a whole we can make differences, I mean thats what betas are for so they can work out the issues and problems. Enough players show their dismay about Gameguard, maybe they'll get rid of it.

btw its not the acclaim you are thinking of it is actually a company that bought out the logo and rights to the name because its one that us from nintendo days already know and guess what we are the biggest market for these mmo's
just thought i would throw that out there for ya
