I have been thinking about what I would be willing to pay for an MMORPG and it's really hard for me to determine what the best monthly cost would be for AoC. I think that $10 would be awesome! 5 seems like too little, and 15 just seems like the company is taking advantage of us. I would begrudgingly pay $12 a month, but 10 sounds so much better. Also, for the Xbox 360 version I hope I can just pay using microsoft points because that would be innovative and cool. It sounds much cooler saying I pay 1000 points a month to play this game, then ... I pay $10 bucks a month. Anyways, what do you think it will cost??? This is my first MMO.

Draw the line? $15 a month for that kind of entertainment is a steal. Christ you pay at least $49.99 for cable and most shit on tv these days is pure crap. If anything these companies are generous to us players. 24/7 gaming(minus maintance) at the cost of 1/3 of cable. I'm not saying they should charge more, but that kind of mindset is not needed.

seems kinda funny to me seeing how X360 players will have to pay for LIVE too...
Actually, microsoft played it really smart when it comes to MMO's and their policy is that Xbox Live Silver is FREE, and everyone with a silver account is allowed to play MMO's at whatever price PC gamers are paying. So most likely if it is costing a PC gamer $15 a month, then it will also cost a 360 player $15 a month.

Actually online fees are not stupid. For instance, if microsoft didn't charge $50 a year for XBOX LIVE gold then you could create as many accounts as possible for xbox live. Therefore, if someone gets "banned" from xbox live because they are modding, completely ruining a game, then it doesn't matter anyway because they can just create another "free" xbox live gamertag. So that online fee isn't stupid, but in all actuality is very smart and helps maintain the integrity of Xbox Live. It also encourages someone to pick one online identity and stick with it. That's why people who see me post, know me as trinityNITRO because it is my online identity and my gamertag. Now, when it comes to all MMORPG's do you also think online fee's are crap??? Because then you are limiting yourself to "Guild Wars" and "Maplestory" ... which is cool, but I think some games are worth the subscription fee.

We pay those large cable fees and yet we don't have to listen to bitchers, whiners, moaners, greivers, we dont have to get pk'd etc etc. And if we dont like something we can simply change the channel. Games are cheaper because they don't have pay the same mega taxes / fees to get their Service into certain cities / neighborhoods and they dont have to pay all tha tmoney to fix or even lay cable lines that get damaged etc etc.
I wouldn't pay more than 15 bucks a month ever for a game. More than 15 bucks is outrageous. It doesn't cost THAT much to run a server or we wouldn't have all these free websites.

Look at it this way, if you go see one movie in a theatre a month you've just paid around $20 for 2-3 hours of entertainment. Paying under $20 a month for access to your online gaming which gives you 10 hours of entertainment a week is not a bad deal. If you play for only 40 hours a month it cost ya 50 cents an hour to play. You cant play Ms PacMan at Pizza Hut for 50 cents an hour.
You can't compare apples and oranges. Going to the movies is completely different you don't go see a movie everyday. You see that movie 1 time, maybe buy it on dvd and thats it the movie companies dont' get any more money. Game companies continously get money off you it balances out.

I hate this monthly fee argument.
Did you know something like 30-40% of MMO fees is profit after cost? (PCGamer) Thats why it only takes a year or less to pay developement cost. (unless its a total sh*t game like most of them released this past year) Very very few products have that sort of profit margin. Very few. Thats why everyone is trying to jump on the MMO bandwagon. Most of them could give a rats as* about the quality of the game, its all about the subscription fees.
To be honest, they are not "a steal" as far as entertainment goes. Most of them are dull grindy "go kill 10 rats" crap with raids and capture the flag at the end... and for the mostpart alot of these games are not worth the 15 bucks a month they charge.
My point is, if you love the game, wouldn't want to the support it the best you could so it can get future updates, better hardware etc? The reason most MMOs have very low development after launch is because the team is working on another game to make it through the next year(s). It's not cheap to run a server(It's my industry, I know how insanely expensive it can be) and most free mmos have to depend on their customer base to invest in some goodies to pay for costs. Subscription MMOs don't have sponsers or advertisements so they depend on us to pay a monthly fee to keep the game running. All I'm saying is we will see an increase in monthly fees from what we are used to, maybe not this year, but definatly next year. If the community won't respond to this we might actually see MMOs take a dive off the deep end and console games back as the main hype.
Try getting an MMO bill in the hundreds of dollars!
Ah..the good ole' days.
You know... Us PC users have a nice cable bill each month as well to connect to the internet... Which is probably a bit higher than your xbox live fee.. If I recall, when I played xbox live it was $10 a year(Unless things have changed since then)? Grow up please!
I don't know about you guys.. But $15 for even a day of subscription seems valid to me...
Think about it.. Every time you leave the house to do something it's going to cost you about $15 dollars...
Going out to eat: $10-$18 (+ decent tip of $5-$10 dollars.)
Fast food: $5-$10
Movie: $7-$20 (depending on concessions)
Shopping: $0-$500 (depending on what you buy)
Bowling: $8-$20 (More if you have a bite to eat while you're there)
Ice/Roller Skating: $5-$20 (Depending on if you have your own Skates.
Put put Golf: $5-$15
Amusement park: $12-$40
So simply take a look at the alternatives.. Hell, my roomates and I actually play MMORPGs as an excuse to save money... And you're complaining that it costs too much?
Unless you live in a very warm outdoorsy area, there's not much that you can do for free in this world. And even driving to Tennis/Basketball courts or Baseball/football fields costs money in gas.
I easily spend $15 dollars a day on entertainment on average... Unless I'm just sitting at home doing absolutely nothing. So $15 dollars a month isn't all too bad. Working full time is only 35-45 hours. Unless you are working overtime. And 8 Hours of work + 8 hours of sleep= 8 hours of entertainment time per day. Though for me it's more like 6 hours of sleep and 6 hours of work, with 13 hours of entertainment per day, lol.

Your point is invalid, you need to pay for cable for xbox live too, how else you going to connect to the net? Not only that it'a $100 for a year of xbox live as a gold member. Way over what a PC user pays. Grow up? He's exactly right, stop assuming and take your own advice .
Oh yeah, I had forgotten about that little fact, hehe.
But if you have cable already, why not just play it on your computer if you don't wish to pay extra?
Xbox doesn't have to offer it to everyone.. They just do so that whoever wants to can play with the xbox instead. You either pay extra and play it or you use your PC.
And $100 dollars? Wtf? Have they gone mad? There is a reason why I use a PC instead of Xbox if this is the case, lol.

Depends on the user, if you have both (which I do) i'd head over to the x360 side for control reasons, I'd rather run around with a joystick then a keyboard. BUT, Vista will make 360 controls compatible with the PC soon so it won't matter either way. In which i'd kick back over to my PC for obvious reasons.

Wow, so many people quoting stats and figures that they know nothing about. You all sound like me trying to explain anything related to PC's and MMO's. Yeah I'm a noob. But, when it comes to XBOX LIVE I'm the expert, so here goes.
1. Yes, to log onto xbox live you have to already have internet (xbox live doesn't magically provide that)
2. Once logged on, you can experience xbox live with no additional costs to your "normal" monthly internet fee (be it cable, DSL, etc) this is called Xbox Live "Silver" and is included for free for anyone interested. This allows you to have and maintain a friends list, communicate with those friends via voice chat, text, or video chat. You can also play games, download trailers, demos, music videos, movies, and tv shows. MOST IMPORTANTLY microsoft's policy is that you can play MMO's with an Xbox Live Silver Account, so again I will state that it costs Xbox 360 users the exact same as PC users to play MMO's.
3. Xbox Live also has a service that you can "choose" to pay for called Xbox Live "Gold" And NO it doesn't cost $10 a year, and it also doesn't cost $100 a year. It is $50 a year. These gold members are able to experience matchmaking for games like Gears of War, Lost Planet, and Halo 3. These matchmaking experiences enhance the gameplay and bring it to a whole new level where you are matched perfectly with players you want to be with. With an xbox live "silver" account you can host custom games for Halo 3 over xbox live, and have your friends join. You can also play games with friends who don't pay for live called team training, but if you want to be in a "ranked" match then you need Xbox Live Gold and bungie provides you with an incredible experience where you and your friends can bounce from game to game to game.
I don't know about multiple accounts, but I do know that some MMO's give discounts if you pay several months or a year in advance.
