Guild Wars: E3 For Everyone! (a must read)

We have just been notified by ArenaNet that they are going to be holding an unprecedented event during the 2004 E3 event.  If you are not sitting down - you might want to do so now...

They are going to be allowing EVERYONE to play a small demo version of Guild Wars online.  This will only be during the 3 days of the E3 convention and they will be making the client available as soon as 2 weeks prior to the event.  The download will only be around 30MB...and will be available on May 1 from the new GameSpot DLX service.

    Holy crap, this is the most amazing thing ever, everyone getting a change to play Guild Wars demo, man, I'm not going to see the light of day for that weekend XD.

    If it's only 30mb, i suspect the playability will be minimal at best. But still, it just goes to show how Guild Wars seems to be outshining the mmorpg genre at every corner. I hope they willl alllow PvP'ing in the demo. Since attacking mobs would be kinda pointless.

    Doesn't matter with guild wars. They have the downloading streaming technology where you recieve most of the data in game. They even say the retail game is going to start off close to that size. At first it sounded like a bad idea to me because it sounds like it would be slow as hell but every tester I've talked to has said it has been faster then 90% of the MMORPGs out there. We will see though.

    You have to download 30mb of art assets and login tables, but everything else gets streamed to you, you end up having like 300 mb of stuff on your computer :). Streming technology works wonders.

    I seriously hope they have PvP as well, because after I do my 24 hours of leveling :P, I want to destroy my competitiors o_O.

    I believe the real interesting feature of GW, is no "grind", no required leveling. Out of the box, you can do allot damage to someone else. What doing quests and getting new skills gains you is different abilities not necessarily more powerful ones.

    I wish there more details about this, but it sounds pretty exciting to me. Let's face it, MMORPG's are about the "high end" game, leveling is just a way to drag out getting to the point when the game is fun. If GW can by pass that process and make the game fun out of the gates, they will be a success over night.

    If implemented badly, it will play something like D2, and get old as quick.

    Actually, the client will be around 100 kb and after that everything else will be streamed to you.

    Hope to see you guys around :). We, the alphas will be some sort of guides for n00bs to guide them a little thru co-op missions and destroy them in PvP Arena ;).

    image holy cow i think i just wet my pants image ... if the game runs with those kinda graphics on the website.... i think i have found my next love -- quick question for anyone that knows ... is the enviroment for guild wars going to be like asherons call or eq where you can roam around ... i didnt find anywhere sayings that ... and i read that the service is going to be free? your kidding me eh?

    you don't need to dl all of that just buy the pc gamers book and you got the files also !

    and i thought that with the pc gamers ( i think it is ) you get exlusive of hl² too
