Pros

1.) Free

2.) Good effect features

3.) Many skills once to join a clan

4.) Quests have decent creativity behind them

5.) Complex crafting system implemented and is yet to improve

Cons

1.) No-one ever talks/responds (so learning is hard)

2.) Help system pretty crap

3.) Not the largest of enemy models

Summary

This game packs real potential, it's in open beta and it's quite a treat to play. I think this game does have a future and they will introduce a monthly subscription to access the entire game.

We're all Geniuses. Most of us just don't know it.

actually, the crafting system isnt implemented yet. we dont even know how its going to be.

there is however an item refiner.

you can get +1-9 on your weapon.

    1-2 100%

    3-4 has white glow

    5-6 has green glow

    7+, who knows.

    Pros:

    - Free

    - Looks good while not requiring a super good machine

    - Nice story (most of the quests are still getting translated into english)

    - About 220 levels of advancement + pvp

    - Your skills improve trough use (which is a concept I have always loved)

    - Lightfoot is an awesome (and innovative) way of travel

    Cons:

    - Only 4 classes (warrior/mage/healer/hybrid)

    - Gameguard

    - Extremely repetitive (amazing amount of grind required as you progress)

    - In game communication system needs work desperately

    - Gameguard

    - Leveling up skills (especially buffs/heals) is extremely tedious at higher levels

    - Lack of decent help documents/sites

    - Did I mention Gameguard?

All that being said, the game is still in beta, so chances are that some of the issues will get addressed in time, hopefully new features (and quests) will get introduced as well.

Personally I am done with 9Dragons for the time being, too much (good looking) repetitiveness, plus gameguard annoyed me too much (all other issues aside, it won't even let you shut down the game from task manager, when the game hangs on a broken quest - reboot required. Grrr!). I will probably check it out again once they hit retail, to see their progress, I doubt that I will ever consider playing it seriously.

After playing this hidden gem for a month, this is what i feel:

    Pros:

    - Free, for folks who see MMO companies as crooks, free MMO's with item malls are lesser of two evils.

    - First MMO focusing on martial arts (no, SRO & Heroes are only asian themed, this one IS about martial art fantasy)

    - No heavy armor/shield/paladins, again it faithfully adheres to martial art theme, so none of those.

    - Great animation and moves.  Smooth graphics with minimal lag except in town/village.

    - Lightfoot instead of mount, so another plus for sticking to martial arts fantasy theme.

    - No uber must-have skills in this game.  You pick skills with best looking moves.

    - 4 classes in each clan, and each clan has several sets of clothes/make-up, so toons don't look alike.

    - A nice break from all generic Sci-fi or eurocentric medieval fantasy MMO's out there.

    - Skill level separate from character level, so higher lvl players don't always beat you.

    - Nice quests with useful item rewards; good story/lore with role-playing potential if pvp is done right.

    - Nice variety of crafting, item collecting options.  Dungeon in each map for additional player challenge.

    Cons:

    - Free, so there's a potential for botters and gold farmers to catch on, so far it's pretty clean.

    - Leveling at high lvl can be really slow. ( = an invisible level cap)

    - Skill level grinding (this can be a plus, as real-life martial art learning is all about practice/grind.)

    - Quests reward too few xp.

    - Still in beta, many features and some clans are yet to be implemented.

Overall, this one has a lot of potentials if endgame content and pvp are done right.  If Indy 21 folks are smart to provide us maps allowing open clash between white & black clans, and add in another layer of pvp like allowing anyone to join either rebellion or imperial government's force, I can see myself playing this game for a long time.

Bottom line is, if you don't know anything or don't care about asian martial arts, it may be a hit or miss for you.  But if you are interested, definitely check this baby out since it's free.  Don't buy into negative stereotype spread by a few with possible industry agenda behind them.  As a consumer you owe yourself the right to try every game, free or otherwise.

Agreed!  The biggest issue here seems to be that a bunch of players came in with the Pre-Open Beta and played ASSUMING that the game as it is now is what it will continue to be.  So far Acclaim has stated that there is ALOT that isn't implemented yet, and they have at least TRIED to fix alot of the problems and keep things rolling on schedule (well, I imagine alot of it is in Indy21's end, since Acclaim still has very limited technical control at this point).  A game is what you make it, and this is a very cool theme that has not been fully implemented by anyone yet!  Much like City of Heroes/Villains is to the superhero genre (still waiting to see a good Battletech game, and a Car Wars...Auto Assault is a poor joke, imo).  Besides, it is free!  I keep Anarchy Online installed on my box for the same reason...sometimes it is just fun to revisit.  And for those sick of it...well, maybe 9D is not for you, but I have been playing since CB, and after several months I am still as psyched as ever!

Also, don't overlook the low system reqs, folks...I got accepted for CB on Vanguard, for instance, and despite more than beating the minimum reqs and being just shy of the recommended, my framerate was so bad it took me about 10 seconds just to turn to the side!  Whereas with 9D I have died only once from bad lag.
