Lineage II - The Great Fall

SerienSerien Member CommonPosts: 8,460

Ok, to clarify, we have seen many, MANY falls before (ie SWG Shadowbane etc.) But I myself, in the history of my gaming have NEVER seen a letdown this big.

What happened? This was a game that was anticipated UP there with EQII and WoW! This game totally..for lack of a better term, stunk. For those of you that haven't tried Beta (Which closes on the 28th) The game is repetetive...VERY repetetive.

It's the same "Lather, Rinse, Repeate" system that have been in all mmorpg's that fall a great cliff. Let us see what was anticipated..

Great graphics? sure..I guess, the graphics are substantial for a mmorpg

Game Play? Are you nuts? You get attracted to a game by its graphics, but the gameplay is what holds you with the game (I am going to quote another member) The looks of a woman attracts me, but the personality is what keeps me with the game"

And there you have it. Lineage II is a complete Letdown IMHO.

Castle Wars? the MOST anticipated part of this game! where is it? I know they are keeping it for the "payers" but you aren't going to get many payers if the beta people don't like it.

PvP? It is really..really stupid. Once you kill someone, you get Karma, now that means that your name is red, thus, anyone can kill you and not be damaged (in Karma) you lose exp every time you are pked, AND you cannot go into towns...the guards will kill you. Fact of the matter is, you have to fight mobs for like 2 hours before you get your Karma down, now the problem with this is, everyone around you is going to attack you...EVERYONE, even the newbies attack you! So after fighting mobs for 2 hours, your karma finally deminishes, BUT, your exp is GONE! so much exp, so much work, gone! because you have been slained so many times by other players.

Castle Wars is giong to be the only thing that will keep this game alive IMO, Hopyfully the creators at NCSoft will hurry up and release it.

Ah, well, that is my view on this tragic letdown, obviously my own opinion. Now I would like to hear waht you guys think about the game yourself.

i find lineage 2 one of the best games ive played since legend of mir.....their service is great..once their is a problem the ppl at the server try and take care of it as soon as possible even tho they are not the developers...they are only technicians.

they have not introduced the chrnicle patch because they are not testing it....its a beta test not a free ride please keep in mind....

game play isnt good u say...wat game play is any game suks at teh end of the day just kos u cant be arsed to devote urself to it.....u want to level 75 in 5 seconds right and u want foxes to drop p attack a billion items too right...hey if u dont like it please dont complain ur not paying

Repetitive is the word. The other day I was in a dungeon with a new found friend. We hacked and slashed for maybe two hours. Then i told him I was boored. He said "Yeah, me too, but it´s good xp". That´s L2 in a nutshell.

You don´t play the game because it´s fun, but because you wanna reach the next level. If some people wanna grind all day to to impress on players at lower levels, it´s up to them. But for me that´s not very challenging. I happen to have a life. The frequent use of bots really says it all. Imagine after release, people are gonna pay for a game they don´t play! That´s SICK!

It´s true that all MMORPG:s to date are repetitive. I was hoping this game was gonna brake that depressing trend. Now, I´m putting my hopes with WoW, CoH and Dragon Empires. The key to non-repetitiveness is a good, interactive, varied and multilegged, quest system. Good and meaningful PvP can also be fun. The siege system in L2 is what made me interested of the game in the first place, but I´m afraid only the obsessed grinders will have a chance in winning those battles, so I´ll pass on that too.

Do some reading on the games I´ve mentioned, and you might come to think that repetitiveness don´t have to be a natural law in MMORPG:s

I'm sorry but that is probably the worst MMORPG to make friends in.

For one, theres no socializing at all in that game. It's not necessarily the communities fault, the game doesn't even have any emotes. The characters look all the same. And the only people still in the game are just levelling like crazy, they don't want to talk to you.

What you get is a bunch of "unexpressable" clones running around the city that are just driven by the so called "addictive" levelling.

I'm one of the people who's very dissapointed in Lineage2. Despite all the dissapointments, Lineage2 will be one of the most succesful mmorpg because of the huge royal fanbase. Lineage2 have the most royal fanbase which most of them are hardcore power leveling people; they love spending lots of time in leveling up and repetative is in their nature which they are very familier with. You don't have to have much strategy or be smart to pley Lineage2, all you need is a bunch of dedication and time to have fun in Lineage2. This is not my cup of tea. I'm more in to content, questing, charactor devalopment, deep complex skills system, and a smart combat system.

I'll have to agree on the lack of gameplay in this game.  It is true that I could persuade myself to overlook areas that degrade gameplay and thus enjoy the game as code(membername, not to be mistaken with programming code) would have me do.  But then that would be me entertaining myself and only getting indirect fun from the game...  I'll let this one sit when it hits the shelves.

I've played both the L2 Prelude and the CoH beta. NCSoft is really gonna have a problem keeping players.

CoH is the better of the two, but it lacks content so bad, I can't see anyone playing it over a month. There's no interesting alternatives like crafting and there is no hunting for uber loot.

Now as for Lineage2, it's far too simple. There's 6 different looking people. Makes you feel like a borg drone. The items are extremely boring with no interesting magical effects, juts increase to P.ATK/M.ATK/P.DEF (armor) and that's it.. at high high levels there's like a +1 STR bonus. oooooh.

All the classes are the same. At level 75 EVERY single class will be EXACTLY the same. THey'll have ALL the skills, they'll have hunted the BEST item and there WILL only be ONE best item in every class.

The grind is not that fun. It looks good but that only keeps you playing for so long. The PvP system is quite bad. Melee characters have no chance against archers, mages have no chance against archers and if you're running away a melee character (if faster then you, which is rare), the melee will run up to you and stop. The controls are simple but in PvP they're quite buggy.

Castle sieges will never work because of the extreme graphical lag. You've seen how bad it is when you get to Gludio. That's only 100 people, if that. In castle sieges with mutliple guilds you'll be pushing 200+ and there'll be about 2 people out of those 200+ which MIGHT have a FPS count higher then 4. Everyone else will get a slide show that conists of 1 frame showing 100% of your health and other frame showing you a respawn list.

I had the impression from articles and forum posts that CoH had a very good varied quest system, isn´t that right? As for hunting for uber loot, well that´s one of the aspects that makes other MMORPG:s so repetitive. Crafting? I´d be happy to be without it.

Ya not to mention if my GF is gonna break up with me over game it should be a good one, maybe WoW, definitely not L2.

There's no community.  There's actually good reason to exclude people from your community.  People are tripping over each other at the good leveling spots, and fighting in groups is penalized.  Since race=class=starting location and transportation is expensive, you really can't start a group of friends together until level 15 or so.  Add to this... you aren't going to get support.  The team running the servers has nothing to do with the development of the game.  They're just there running it.  It's been an ok Beta period, but I can't see investing money in it.

Actually we don't have to say so much. The game is purely boring.

It,s worst than a 2nd real life job ... Too much time consuming for what ? Castle Seige ? I could barely pass lvl 20 in 2 weeks.  MuOnline/KOnline/Lineage2 are just about the same .. just differents graphics

Just putting my two cents in- total waste of time, I played for about 6 hours on my friends account and when I got my own beta account I didn't even want to play. I agree with all the above comments about boring gameplay/ridiculous level grind but would also like to add that the anime style is going to turn off a lot of people as well as the ridiculous clothing they put on women. Now I like the looks of a beautiful woman as much as the next guy- but thongs and S&M lingerie just look ridiculous in the context of hand to hand combat.

True, the game is really pure boring, there is nothing but PURE leveling and some stupid quests that makes you even want to quit the game more. Although the graphics are good , i'd have to say the game will become boring after a while, but for the starting, it's still kinda fun.. maybe for a week or less image..

Another problem with Lineage 2 is the lack of items , skills , and the time taken travelling. Firstly, everyone is wearing the same fking armour and taking the same fking weapon and look the FKING SAME! ..can you believe it? I can't belive the koreans actually made that! Maybe they were only concerned about how the graphics look, not how the players looked. Secondly, SKILLS , everything is the same, you find no one with different skills as you, it's just how fast you get your skills and which skills you get first.. BORING.. lastly.. is the DAMN time needed to run from a town to another, even from the town to your training spot is a pain in the neck.. What kind of game is it? I'd say it's just another flop of 2004.

Coming to sieges, i wouldnt know how good it would be.. BUT, for sure it won't be that frequent, i wouldn't pay for a game to level up, then, fight in a siege that only take place once a month image Maybe its once a week, but im sure many noobs will complain.

I can only say the only thing that makes this game "attractive" to gamers are the graphics..

Lineage II is repetitive.  There is a huge grind.  It gets boring.  So how is this different from all of the others?

The reason why I am giving up hope on it is simply because there is little to no roleplaying and social aspect to Lineage II.

No character customization, no emotes, I thought these things would be added.

I do have some fun with Lineage II, but it does not last very long.  I can log in and play for a few hours and it's fine, but the game does not hold my attention like other mmorpgs do.  It has great potential, but it is far from being a great game yet.  I am still planning on paying and continuing my character, but it may be a short time before I cancel if some things aren't improved.  I understand it is a beta.  I also believe NCsoft when they say content and others things will be added.  I think the game is polished and runs smooth for the most part.  That says a lot, they didn't rush the game out, give them a little credit for that.  However, I agree with everyone who has complained about the repetitiveness and grind.

As far as PvP system, it is fine with me.  I hate Pk'ers and they all deserve the horrible punishments they get.

I played  the Beta over the week end. After a few hours, I had enough. Terrible lag in towns,  good graphics but everyone looks the same, no variety in the templates, equipment all the same. The grind is fun for a few hours but it gets tedious fast. It's slightly better then AC2 Beta (but what isn't) but I'll pass on this one for sure.

I used to think that lineage 2 would be different from other made-in-korea mmorpg (that it would have items that differentiate ur chars from others) but im wrong. Now i know....ALL korean mmorpg is the same....all characters will look and be the same.

Exactly. but the thing out of those athat really got me was the PvP system..

what do you guys think about that part?

how you get karma, and the karma doesn't go for like 2 hours or till you die like 15 times

Yea, sorta mentioned, but again, this game is incredibly incredibly hostile. Everyone always feuding over the same camp spots, over KSsing, griefers everywhere.

What really gets me is that you can have a player or 2 griefing like crazy in newbie lands for 30 minutes. Then a good guy will come along and kill that griefer. As soon as he does that, all the newbs who were being griefed, instead of thanking him, will attack the good guy to try and get some equipment off his fallen carcass. Sickening.

I played in Lineage 2 beta for 2 days.  That's all it took for me to absorb the boring content and total lack of exciting gameplay.  There is NOTHING to do except sit there and grind out levels, which I find is the worst possible thing in MMO's.  If you thought EQ was bad for grinding, you will pass out when you play this game.  Of course, this is my opinion, and if you like it, all the more power to you.

I have a hard time seeing you liking this game unless you are a botter who just PK's people when your online and bots when your not.

    (botting is a problem too)
