How bad is the grind?

The unfortunate reality about PVP based games is that you are not a viable entity in the gameworld until youve reached max level. I have a level 23 Heretic on Gareth, left there after I quit because of the noticably longer time it took between levels and sick of the boredom induced by the task dungeons.

Ive heard that its not a TD only game now that there is double xp in the overland which is good, but how long do you think it would take me to reach lvl 50 playing on average 2 hours a day(more free time than I had before, got freed up by my boxing concussion)?

    Hi,

I just started on Lamorak i think its called last night and reached level 14 in a few hours, i had a level 27 enchanter aswell that i made a while ago, whilst it is a bit of a grind its nowehere near as long and tedious as other games out there and personally i enjoy the game world alot more than others its a nice place to grind and do quests. Try your best to find a group to maybe relieve the boredom, one of my friends re rolled to level up with me and its much more fun doing it at the same time as someone else.

Playing two hours a day it would take you quite some time to reach max level, unless you've got friends ready to powerlevel you.

The level capped battlegrounds are there to let people do PvP at lower levels though.

Gotta tell ya go to Battlegrounds...

The exp off killing players is pretty huge and of course... since its players its alot more fun that mobs!

Another thing to consider is playing on a server that has a "population bonus" which means that one realm is doing badly and needs fresh blood to get back on its feet.  I dunno if its your thing to play the underdog though... for leveling though, it grants you 1 free level (full 100% exp bar) every so many days.  (3 or 5 or 7 days depending on the server).  The free level comes as long as you get one level the regular 'ole way between the last time you got a free level.

Kinda a cool system... worth looking into.

I think dem folks at Mythic have realized that DAOC is a mature game, meaning its no longer about the grind, mostly about the Fun! (RvR)

Since you're playing on the 'classic' servers I too must recommend getting into the battlegrounds. as on those servers the bg population is huge compared to the other clusters.  Another bonus to playing in the bg's is the amount of money you can make, much more per kill than against monsters.. If you can partake in a Keep capture you can get 4-5 bubbles of xp every level doing that. I might be wrong on that last as it might only be once per battleground but I only head in when I ding the last level of the bg so not sure.  Another huge advantage of leveling in battlegrounds is that you will gain Realm Points as well as Experience Points. That way, when you reach level 50, you will be much more powerful than if you simply grinded all the way. One thing not to overlook is that just because the battlegrounds are of a lower level, it doesn't mean that the action is any less taxing or any less fun when you do good.

On classic, most of the bgs have at least a few people in them, but the 'must haves', ones that have the most action and the most rewarding play time are Thidranki(lvl 20-24) and Molvik(35-39). Getting in a good group during peak hours and you will xp out faster than you can solo in pve.

If your only care is to get to lvl 50 and hit New Frontiers you should still think about capping out your realm points in thid and molvik so you are not at a huge disadvantage against other lvl 50s. Each battleground has a maximum level of rps you can get before you have to level up to the next one to continue.

you will level fastest in the battle grounds, old PvE zones only have 125% bonus now, but rvr zones still have 150% bonus....that, and camp bonus is usualy a lot higher in battle grounds than popular spots in PvE zones.

I have one account on gareth filled with toons, mostly 50s, 3 49.5s, and one 38...and did that without any PL, bot accounts, or buying plat with $$.

DAoC has become one of the easier games to pve level in.

I played this back in the old grind days and it was still by far the most fun end game of any games ive played.

    searching for the next DAoC....

Not really.  Prior to the XP bonus it would have taken 60 days at 2 hours a day.  He should be able to do it now in 30-45 days at 2 hours a day assuming he does not play around in the BG that often.  My latest toon is like level 35 and I have spent like 30 hours playing and a lot of that was in Thid.

I came back in November and I found leveling up on Gareth to be much better, between the exp bonuses, addition of campfires to heal up with, increases in health/end/mana regen rates when out of combat etc etc.

Pick a solo class like a Vamp and you can blow through it in no time at all, but group depended classes will take somewhat longer (but still not bad)

I too was thinking about getting the game to experience the pvp, but I also am worried about the grind from 1-50. Can someone perhaps compare it to world of warcrafts 1-60 (or 1-70) or final fantasy's 1-75? This would just help me put it in perspective because i have played both of these games for a long period of time. Thankyou

My friend still plays hardcore with 2 accounts. According to him there is no grind and if you make a max level friend you can be PLed to max level in like 2 days. Normal leveling we are talkin probably 1-2 weeks I guess. Not very hard anymore, but getting groups is hard for lower level content.

My fastest 1-50(Was autotraining) was 13 hours.  That was before they added exp bonus
  • Nitros284Nitros284 Member Posts: 82

13 hours? No way, that's ridiculous.

    HOW?!?!

  • hogscraperhogscraper Member Posts: 322
Not at all ridiculous if you know orc camp. As long as you know what you're doing, a toon that was created when you woke up can be 50 by the time you have to go to bed that day.  There's another way to do orcs that involves a shield tank engaging the trigger and walking him back and forth over the trigger line while the necro sits way out where they spawn killing all 6 groups fast enough and I've seen a toon go from 1-50 in 6 hours. I was there when they started and watched a while, then left to find another camp. I saw how fast the turnover was that way so I /who the plee and about 6 hours or so later he was level 50. I've never been able to pull that off but doing the normal way and keeping at it all day 12 hours isn't  impossible.

I recently came back to DAOC after a long break to join a friend who got me into his guild when i first logged in. With there help and new exp bonus i was lvl 45 in 8 1/2 hrs in a 6 man grp (myself inc) killing in AC. I was amazed at the speed i lvled, but i suppose Mythic are trying to get back old customers who dont want a long grind to 50.

It took me about a month at 20 hours a week to get to max level. Which is faster then any PvP games, even easy-mode games like WoW. The expansion provided quick way to level up and even in solo with the task dungeon. (Pretty boring, but efficient)

2 Spear Valks and a shammy took me from level 21 to 39 in 3 hours in PoC. Valks where 50 mending. The grind is not bad. I soloed a Runemaster in NF killing mobs around the keeps. Got him to 46 doing that. Then did quest and ran with the Guild till 50.
