Whoot EQ2 #1!

eccotoneccoton Member UncommonPosts: 1,340
Just checked mmorpg.com and saw EQ2 sitting at the top of the top 10 list. It is nice to see. I have played just about every mmorpg represented at this site. Many great ones out there but EQ2 tops my list. Good to see people refinding or finding EQ2 for the first time. It took awhile but EQ2 now has the polish that it deserves with EoF expansion. I love that more people are discovering EQ2 dispite the many negative feelings players have with SOE. Go EQ2 Go!

i must agree, though i have hard feelings toward SOE in general the  dev Team that is responsible for EQ2 has done a stellar job thus far, quality expansions, good content quests are awesome, I actually read them :P, good loot, good economy. i really cant say anything bad about it. I quite for a while due to RL issues, but I may end up gong back to it again, as I am also getting a new pc so Ill be able to enjoy it further since itll look stellar with my new system once i purcahse it.  i think the game can only improve and get better, other than the above i stated, I think people should give it a go. cant hurt. i think they will love the community as well, the community one of the finer highlights as well.

just get a good pc though, i wont lie this game has pretty steep requirments, but also too, the performance of the game has multipled 2 fold. so youll get more with less. give it a go guys. cant hurt to try. like i said I may be going back, since there isnt gonna be anything really  good worth playing for a while. I got a lvl 56 paladin :P and 3 alts miss it  i just hope IM still in my guild.

Are you sure? When I look at gamelist, and click ratings, it says Guild Wars at top? The one of the homepage says EQ 2 though.. I don't really care which one it is though since I play neither.

I don't know I use to play EQ2 on a Dell 4400 1.6 ghz 1gb of ram and a 64 geforce 3 and was still able to play. of course i had low settings on but was still able to play even in raid situations.

EQ2 is a good game i just came back after playing my buddies WoW account. I don't know how anyone could choose WoW over Eq2 to be honest.

I love the concept of having a station access account, pay one price and you can play all their games.  Presently I have Vanguard and EQ2 both for one price.

I always thought EQ2 was pretty darn good myself. I played it off and on since beta.

    I miss DAoC

I like EQ2 and this is nice to see, but its temporary and mean near nothing for this game. But if this brings at least one player to game, its good ;-D

heh well to be honest it's a 4-way split between several good games but congrats to SOE for not fixing a game into oblivion....

With the risc of being yelled "fanboi" at, i very much agree here. EQ2 has now become a very polished game.

Sure, it has its problems...all mmorpgs will always have, but currently this game fits more different playstyles than any other MMO i've tried.

I agree with sentiment all things considered (gameplay, UI, depth, graphics, character creation, crafting) EQII is the most complete fantasy based MMO out atm. While not the best in any one category persay, it scores high enough in those areas making it the all around best.

I stress atm too as newer games lurk in the shadows. Now Vanguard certainly has the potential to be the best but SIGIL's got some work to do.

its good to see a SOE game actually change for the better. EQ2 was such crap at release, much like Vanguard is now, and has grown into something pretty darn good. Now SOE needs to get to work on VG and maybe they can make that game good in a year or so too.

EQ2 wasnt buged in beta as much as Vanguard is after release. I played beta of both and EQ2 was very complete game in compare with Vanguard (sure there were bugs but very rare or minor at least from my experience).

    EQ 2 is ok

But really its just EQ1 thrown in a blender and poured into a new cup.

I wasnt that impressed with it truth be told. Was boring and was like " Bleh been there done that " kind of feeling for me.

But what killed it for me is thus. A game that has well under 200K subs and is by comparisons a small to mediu=m sized community had one of the worst communities I have ever experienced.

Not as bad as WoW's but with WoW I can write that off to the cause there is 8 million the chances of me running into a jerk is very high. In EQ2 I didn't run into the jerk factor so much but more of the snob's r us attitude really. Never have I seen a community that size so unwilling to be nice and to help ( and I do not mean with money I meant with game questions etc ).

Oh there were some gems but mostly I encountered a very snobish attitude pretty much.

Great to see others agree. I was a total SOE hater what they did to me in pre-nge SWG caused me to cancel all my soe accounts for over a year. In that time I mostly played WoW (a game I enjoyed for my time there) but something in WoW felt flat after a year and after my 20th time in molten core I felt WoW was over for me. It took me about 3 weeks to reactivate my EQ2 account. My hate for SOE was huge! I am so glad I went back and forgave SOE. They make a lot of stupid mistakes with their games but for some reason they have handle EQ2 very well. I hope more people will take a look at EQ2. It is a great polished fantasy mmorpg with tons of stuff to do for both hardcore and the casual.

Just so you know I am not a fanboi. I play other mmos with EQ2. Currently I play in the LOTRO beta (love it) Scions of fate (korean grind but very fun), Guild Wars (fun for a casual good time and very pretty), Albatross18 (a golf mmo and very fun), CoH/CoV (as an artist and college art instructor I love the character creation) I have also tried many more and many I have liked. I listed these to explain that I started this thread to get more people to try EQ2's free trail not because I am a fanboi. EQ2 is one of the top games out.

in reguards to Hadesprime's comment on the eq2 community being one of the worst. Simply not true. Everyones experience is different so his may have been bad but that is not the norm. If you read reviews and forums, community is rated very high by most people.  EQ2 community is one of the most helpful mature communities I have had the pleasure of gaming with. His experience indeed may have been bad but the general feeling by most is EQ2 is a great community.

EQ 2 doesn't rub me the right way. I've tried playing it twice, as a matter of fact I reactivated my account around Christmas but I ended it around January.

Doesn't feel like a game to me, it's like I'm in a giant cutscene with a pastel character and decent graphics. Not to mention armor variety is almost nonexistent and the PvP system is a load of bollocks. Also, I hate how your skills just come to you when you level, I prefer the EQ 1 system much more.

While I don't believe any of the games would warrant a fee on their own, being able to pay $24.95 for EQ1, EQ2, Vanguard, MxO and SWG (if your a massachist) is just a great dear, whichever way you swing it.

SOE has quite literally become the Walmart of the MMORPG industry, the quality of their products sucks but you can't beat the deal.

I would have to say though, EQ2 is probably the most mature, refined product they have on the market ATM. I would recommed it before all else in their line up, that's for sure.

I just wanted to say that I love your analogy here. It gave me a chuckle, and it's something that I should have thought of myself.

Yea well i pay for eq2 without the stationpass because i feel it is the best mmo out there, it is like a diamond in the rough with all the other crap out there. So while u feel it is not worth paying for on its own, i am sure many would disagree and me being one.

Now that the PC market has caught up to EQ2's system requirements I'm actually surprised the game isn't doing better business.  Nobody can accuse SOE of being chincy with it.  The production values are extremely high and it flat out is one of the best looking games around.  Maybe once people have their fill of TBC they'll start giving EQ2 a chance because it definitely deserves some love.

But as far as this rating thing here at mmorpg.com I can't believe anybody takes it seriously.  All it really shows is how many ballot-stuffing shills work for these publishers.

Wow there are 2 SOE games on the top 7??? I thought everyone hated SOE???

Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!

It’s nice to see EQ2 getting some recognition. Like EVE and Guild Wars and to a slightly lesser extent DAoC  (slightly dated) and CoX (thin in places) it does an outstanding job at what it sets out to do.  To me this is the key to a great game.

Which game you prefer at this point is really a matter of taste and I’d almost prefer it stayed down a few spots rather then get caught up in the type of snipeing the WoW and EVE fans have been throwing at each other.

Now that we know what you need to run EQ2 well, most of it’s perceived performance problems are ancient history. (If you have 2GB of RAM and 512MB of Video memory it’s mainly processor bottlenecked but runs well on anything reasonably new) The new EoF zones have much more character then the older ones and will feel like home to old time EQ players.

Gameplay itself is almost perfect for semi-casual play, you don't need to commit large blocks of time for anything and you can get log in hook up with friends and get going quickly.  Solo group and raid are all viable options as the mod takes you and while it's casual friendly you can play a more hardcore style if you want and gain some benefit from it, and still not be crippled if you don’t want to.  Quest content is extensive and enjoyable. But PvP and high end raid progression could still use some work.  (EoF set the groundwork for both these but there is still work to be done.)
