Sorry if I'm being redundant, but GUILD WARS (one time charge 4 game w no rate after initial purchase).

I hope Guild-Wars knocks the socks off of it's competition (although it would suck seeing NCsoft dominate the market). Would probably change the whole market in terms of volume which is a good thing since it is a multiplayer genre image

Yep, I think guild wars will be a huge success. They will really cash in on those people who think it is cheaper to buy a couple of new single player games each month than it is to pay a subscription to an MMORPG that absorbs all your spare time. They have the best marketing scheme I have seen in a long time.

Lets be honest here when you look at the number of people paying for MMORPG's in the west then there is just no comparison to the numbers in the east.

If you had just 1 game from korea set in america or europe with the numbers of subscribers they get you could offer it at 50c a year and still make a profit.

But realistically with the number on the market now and the barrage of new and improved ones coming out all the time in our sector of the world your lucky to have 1000 people playing a server at the same time.

Thats $3000 a month not taking into account discounts for multiple months.

Jeeees the commerce licence costs more to keep running than that and if you think you can hire bandwidth to run a game that fulfills the licencers demands then go for it.

I think that the games not based where they are developed have a very hard time trying to make ends meet and if they can manage and provide good service for $10 a month then good on them.

The thing is to many people play a beta that dont think its good enough to pay for and instead of saying so and quitting unless its made better then nothing gets changed.

The companies think everything is great and that people are gonna pay but from a base of maybe 5000 beta players maybe 500 end up pay to play (numbers are representative).

i remember a mmorpg having 100,000+ beta players that slowed the servers in peak times and as soon as it went P2P the connection problems and lag dissapeared (along with most of the beta players).

The licencee companies have got an incredibly tough life to live finding a game that can stand the test of time and is good enough and intresting enough to keep people coming back for more.

I cant think of many games that have had me thinking OMG where do i pay !!!!

And then we all woke up high on crack. image

Guild Wars will be opening up to the mass public 2 weeks before E3, for us to download and play for 3 days during E3 with those at E3.

But on topic i find Guild Wars method easier for me, Since their doing away with the monthly payment, Having to buy the game and then every 3-6 months being able to go to the store to buy the add-on content fits me better. But i do wish and i hope that they do allow those who'd rather not run to the store to buy it, to just be able to purchase it online and download it right away. Not sure if they have anything like that planned though.

most the update content you buy for guild wars will most likly be brought online only, that way they cut out alot of the middle men so they get more funds to put back into the game/pay the staff

$10 - $15 a month...  I usually go see around 2 movies a month in theatres, which comes out to $15 a month.  From those two visits, I get a combined total of around 4 hours of entertainment value.   Now it I play a measley 2 hours a day online, I'm getting 60 hours of entertainment for $10 - $15 a month.  Why is it so hard for people to justify spending their money on MMORPG's?  Ask your boss for a ten cent raise to cover the expense.  Smoke 2 less cigarettes a day if you're a chainsmoker.  Refrain from buying that candybar and a soda everytime you stop to pick up gas.  Next time you're mowing your grass, mow your neighbors for $5(twice a month.)

The bottom line is, if something gives you 50+ hours of entertainment a month for as low as $10 - $15, it's definitely worth the money... the sacrifices above are miniscule compared to the benefit gained, and even then those sacrifices only apply to people who have no room in their monthley budget.

$10 bucks a month for all the playtime I can squeeze in is a great value!  Heck, even $20 a month is not out of the park although it would give some people cause.  A lot of players eventually open a second account at $10 a month!

I think we can expect the new games to weigh in at around $13-$15 a month.  The next batch will probably start at $20 a month.
