Who else wants BioWare's new MMO to be set in the Forgotten Realms?

http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=10405

Jade Empire

Mass Effect

Neverwinter Nights

Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic

Baldurs Gate

Baldurs Gate II

Baldurs Gate: Throne of Bhaal

If anyone can make a badass MMO set in the Forgotten Realms it's these guys.

This is one of the two IP's that, if made into an MMO and done well I'd probably have no life whatsoever.

The other is Fallout.

Edited: NWN2

Nope.  KoTOR 2 was made with a Bioware engine but BioWare turned down the offer to develop the game itself and they haven’t touched a licensed product themselves since they made the original KoTOR.

I didn't know Bioware didn't want to do any more licensed games.  I can definatley see why though, I've read about how developers hands are usually tied around their backs when it comes to a licensed game.

Still, I would have loved to have seen Bioware make a FRMMORPG w/out any restraints because I'm pretty sure it would have been freakin' awesome.

There's always the possibility of a Fallout MMO though...even with the slim, pitching it to get out of debt chance Black Isle is taking on it.

Hopefully they'll have a completely useless but amazingly awesome Bloody Mess perk in the MMO as well.

Black Isle no longer exists, Interplay shut them down a few years ago to save money.  Interplay themselves consist of an office with 3 people that brings in less then $50K per year and owes over $30 million to creditors.

Many of the key Black Isle devs, including the guys in charge are now working for Obsidian, who developed both KOTOR 2 and NWN 2.  Fallout and the bloody mess perk, unfortunately, belong to Interplay so I doubt you will see anyone from Obsidian working with them any time soon.

wasnt there a post a few weeks ago about a Fallout MMO, like there was a business plan and what not on another site.

I'm expecting it to be based on the Jade Empire universe. There have been hints of a new Jade Empire game but no specifics. The only known game, other than the Mass Effect series that they are working on is this mystery MMO.

The Jade Empire universe has a lot of potential. It's unique, colorful, and breaks out of the obscenley overused European fantasy setting.

I just really hope to see BioWare really offer some fresh and new ideas into the pool that the companies are pulling from these days. I know it must be hard to want to break the mold but I am tired of the graphics being up front. I kinda want more gameplay or something. I normally turn down graphics because I don't like them. WoW is the only game in recent years that I have not turned down the graphics.

    A real D&Dish MMO would be nice. DD0 isn't remotely D&D.

Even assuming you would be right, I am pretty sure they would never stick to such a broad statement without any considerations.  Not working with LA anymore or unknown licensed properties would be understandable...but they know FR better than me (which is quite something in itself alone), better than most peoples at WotC.  LA prolly piss them beyond comon sense, and they prolly make such a broad statement, they can always be worked out to work on a FR licensed...I am pretty sure WotC is dreaming about it as we speak, so they will prolly be extremely openminded and friendly...as they usually are between each others.

I feel pretty confident to say that eventually, BioWare will release more FR titles.  Hopefully the MMO, but anything would be cool.  Especially that MOST of what WotC would feedback and request as changed, would also have been a recommendation someone inside Bio's team would have said but be put aside for any nazi reason.  See, if your "sponsor" at WotC request that you change A for B, and tiny designer soandso was saying the same stuff and the whole team didn't listen to him, it is fast and easy to understand the sponsor and usually bring the changes quite fast and naturally; it is not something new that they have no idea why the sponsor is requesting that, they understand that point pretty well and can work with it, they can also explain why they didn't went that way and try to convince the sponsor (and maybe fail, yet it show that they know what they are doing), especially that part of the team was saying it should be that way prior even getting a feedback from the "sponsor".

Saying that BioWare will never drink water ever again is more likely to happen than saying they will never work on FR again.  Main reason:  The fans want them to.  The question is not IF they will make a Forgotten Realms game again, it is WHEN and HOW!

Those 2 are misshaps IMO.  Hopefully they are good mishaps that ain't painful, even profitables, but mishaps nonetheless.

Actually yes, they plan to use part of the money made from fallout 3 (being developed by Bethseda) to help fund it, and our hoping to find more investers to fund production soon

That is not entirely true.  In their forums, a dev eluded prefering to work on their own original IP.  Big difference. In fact, someone came to the same conclusion as you and the same dev returned with a "rolleyes" emote to say it was a great leap of logic to go from "prefer to work on their own original IP" to "never work on licensed properities again."

Of course though people only want to use the absolutes. Perhaps it's easier to navigate life that way.

I would love a Fallout themed MMORPG. Mind you, I would love a Forgotten Realms MMORPG, too. I was supremely pissed off when Turbine announced that Dungeons and Dragons: Online was in the Eberron world. Still, we might not see a Forgotten Realms MMORPG for some time, Fallout's seeming more likely at the moment.

I would rather see a MMORPG based on the Might & Magic universe then on the Forgotten Realms , Not the Heroes of Might & Magic worlds but the original M&M worlds  ie: Xeen ect .

If anyone does put out a Fallout MMO it wont be Obsidian or BioWare. Interplay sold the rights to the Fallout IP to Bethesda Softworks. And so far, I haven't seen Bethesda pay online gaming much mind. They have been developing Fallout 3 for quite some time, however.

Actually when they reserved the rights for a Fallout MMO to themselves when the sold the rest of Fallout to Bethesda.

Although as much as I loved Fallout 1 and 2 I'm puzzled why people think it would automaticaly bury Fallen Earth? It's not like Fallout Tactics or even that god awfull playstation (Broherhood of Steel?) Fallout game were brillent just because they were in the Fallout setting.

Given Turbine is already producing D&D online.....I can't imagine that Bioware would be given licensing to go ahead and play with any of the other realms.

Bioware is working on Dragon Age at the moment.

There are some really interesting ideas in this one and I can see a further development into a 'brand' if this works out.

Some recent articles have really peaked my interest.
