Can you Jump yet?

I'm wondering if this expansion allows you to jump or run off ledges yet?

Can you swim?

Being cemented to the ground in the first GW really ruined it for me.

The game is very beautiful and well thought out otherwise.

Most RPGs dont allow jumping or 'running off cliffs'.

Thats because those mmo's suck. Why shouldn't you be be able to it adds realism to the game although the whole instanced world screws that already.

Most don't, but both the WoW and CoH/CoV franchises do have these features, not to mention fly.  Granted though these features are offered in both of these games, Guild Wars remains my favorite game.  Eventually, I wouldn't be suprised to see these features implemented at some point.  And then I will "JUMP" for joy...LOL!!!

/jump is only good as an emote, as opposed to the in game ability to jump up or down the face of a hill or into a wndow etc...

That's funny because those were probably the biggest turn-offs for me aswell.  I bought the "Factions" game based on all the good hype on GW and meh, I was bummed on that purchase.  You'd have to get from point A to B and you'd clearly see an obvious path there but all these invisible walls crop up on little ledges.  Not huge cliffs, but little ledges.  Ugh.  So you're stuck on long roundabout road.  Couldn't stand it.  Sucks cause the whole no-monthly fee aspect is really appealling.

That doesn't mean that this won't be available in the future.  I say just be patient, because there are a lot of people that want these and many other things implemented.  Go to some of the fansites and post your ideas there, i do know that A-net does read those.

They will never add those feactures because they would be useless in GW. Even in wow jumping was pretty useless and was only usefull for killing your self and for jumping from a minor ledge in some instances. As for swiming where would there be a place to swim? and why would we need to swim? and finally if we could run off ledges that would mess up alot of the missions and such which could result in you being stuck in a place you can't get out. If u have a boner for jumping like an idot or swiming play wow (and lose your life) or coh(i'm not sure if u can swim in coh cuz i only played for 30 min on a trial key).

My spoon is too big -_-

Yeah in CoH/CoV you can swim and fly if you reach a high enough lvl in whatever job you have.  But I think it would be hilarious to just sit there and watch ppl in WoW jump off cliffs and kill themselves......LOL!!!!

You can swim in CoH/CoV from the word go. Its not a skill to lvl up like it was way back in EQ. Though i agree with everyone else, why would you want to swim and jump around, to be honest, who cares. If you don't enjoy the game due to the lack of those two things, go away and stop complaining.

Jumping would be great, just to make it easier to get around little ledges instead of having to run all the way around and encounter more enemies.

Actually, most REAL mmorpgs DO allow you to Jump and travel just about anywhere you want.  This includes EQ1, EQ2, AO, DAoC, CoH/CoV, WoW, and many, many more.

GW is NOT a mmorpg.  It is a Diablo2 clone with 1st person perspective and some mmorpg elements.  But it is NOT a mmorpg in the same vein as EQ or WoW.

Based on the system architecture as it can be derived from the way operations are currently implemented, I would speculate that you will NEVER be able to jump, travel up slopes, exit off cliffs, or anything like that.  It would introduce some real nasty elements to the basic 2D PvP world that they have setup.  Adding a 3rd dimension to PvP causes all sorts of new tactics to come into play that I do not think the GW folks want to address.

I wouldn't call bunny-hopping much of a game element actually and it would look quite retarded too.

So not being able to jump is fine to me.

That is something I think the Hardcore PvPers would thrive on, not to mention something else to complain about...LOL.  Needless to say I would find it amusing, while enjoying that aspect of game play for PvE.  Of course if they did add this aspect into the game they may introduce it only into the PvE game only.

Guildwars i would say is one of the greatest games ive played within all my years of playing games. I have got all 3 games and i must say they are all unique and amazing. On the other hand ive also had experience playing World of Warcraft and comparing it to Guild wars its a known fact that World of Warcraft absolutely sucks. Here are some of my comments:

    1. WoW has Super Mario Graphics (from like the first nintendo)

2.The most exciting thing ive realised from people playing WoW is that they actually seriously have a spasm when it comes to pressing the space bar (for those who dont know why, its because they like to jump)

    3. The levels are just stupid. Thats probably the only thing TO DO!

    4. The people who play WoW are spoiled brats who ask mummy and daddy , "mum, dad can i have a little bit of money?" ......."how much son/daughter?" ......"no problem son/daughter here is 200 pounds!" WTF!!!! or atleast the other ppl who are the older ones sacrifice their whole lives just to play that retarded game; their car's , houses, FAMILIES! Its rediculous!

Anyway i just wanted to be honest with ppl out there, and just to give a few straight pointers that Guildwars is so much more better.

    Thanks

    Andrew

Duuude, relax you're gonna pop a blood vessel...LOL!!!  GW is one of my favorite games as well.  I've been playing since before the release of Prophecies.  These are just things I'd like to see added.

u cant swim, run off ledges, or jump yet... but... ITS STILL FREAKING AWESOME AND INCREDIBLY ADDICTIVE!! this game is an MMORPG, take a look at the millions of people playing? isnt that what it means? *MASSIVE* *MULTI*player *ONLINE* *ROLE PLAYING GAME* , the only difference in this is when u go to a combat field (with the except of having another player in ur team or a GvG... AvA... and the sorts) u get ur one 'zone' to fight in, meaning its just u, ur team, and the enemy.

GW is great, no matter what. I only have Prophecies, yeah, I'm an ass :P

My head goes gabloom every time I even TRY to see my necro jump...

Nope, perhaps swimming would be good, but the entire game engine would've had to be re-written. Too much time, but you can always try /jump? :D

It's very difficult to add swimming, jumping, climbing, flight etc after a game is already created (unless they planned to add said movements during development).  Developers often use geography to create barriers for the players - a waterway in Lineage I is effectively an impassable wall, a cliff in Everquest requires you to go around, etc.

GW's story missions are very linear in that the geography and story forces you to follow one path.  Adding jumping, climbing, swimming would make this impossible.

@Tonaraz: *Realistic*? its a fantasy game for god's sake, and want to talk realistic? i'd like to see *ANYONE* that would be able to swim with a full plate mail. Pretty much the only rpgs i've played where jumping is neccessary is Morrowind, Vampire-Bloodlines and Oblivion, Jumping in GW is as neccessary in GW as it is in Diablo...not needed at all that is.

not being able to swim or jump doesn't bother me at all, im used to playing diablo 2, Neverwinter nights and icewind dale though(GOOD games!) where you can't jump or swim.

I love guild wars i have a maxed lvl 20 blood necro but i think that jump and swimming is kind of pointless in games like guild wars.
  • ASmith84ASmith84 Member Posts: 979
you lke jumping?  ok thats cool.  look at  wow.  you can jump and swim in that game right?  but have you notice how unrealistic and stupid it is?  who jumps around like that in a real fight?  who swims around like that and fights while swimming like that?  jumping and swiming and that stuff is pointless in guildwars.  so why have it?  you can go anywhere just fine without it.  this game doesnt need it. i rather have  no jumping or swimming than having it look stupid and pointless.  now if they made it cool looking like the matrix did i might like that.  you dont jump around like a rabbit in that game you actually flip and stuff.  that would be cool.
