Congrats, actually 90% of the games on the market right now DON'T support DirectX10, but Vista has compatibility modes to allow them to work in Vista.
Also as an FYI, Vista does not support EAX, Hardware Audio Devices, many 3rd party USB periphrials (joysticks), and theres pretty much little to no driver support for much of the hardware everyone has right now to make them work effectively in Vista. Java makes it caff and go into basic mode, as well I hope your not using any No-CD cracks on your system cause those go bye bye as well. Theres essentially more bad then good coming out of this new release of Windows with pretty much every expert with a blog telling you not to upgrade at least for another year or even two until they get driver support, figure out all the little bugs, and make the software more stable.
The game though will run fine on a Vista box.
If you want DirectX10 games, well I think they'll be releasing a few later this year like Crysis.
interesting, all my usb devices work fine (not that i have even close to a sample of what is out there), as for no cd cracks, all my games have them and they all work just fine. (COD2, Dark Messia of M&M, Doom3, F.E.A.R, 1/2 2 epsode 1, neverwinter2, nfs carbon, oblivion, PoP 2 thrones, prey, q4, titan quest) as for java, only thing i use it for is the websites that need it, and my sound card (xfi elite pro) does have eax, and it does work on that sound card (although they are beta drivers even now that vista is a retail produce, creative still hasn't released full drivers for it .
as for silkroad, I finaly got it running. (windows xp sp2 compatibility mode), thing is, I shouldn't have to run it that way, the error states "direct x 9b or better, I am running 10, that is better, the company needs to fix there code, it is broken ... but guess I can't expect to much from a game that is free.

Vista's a pretty new operating system, so there's bound to be a transition phase from XP (and older OSes), which is why Compatibility Mode is there. I'm glad to know you can get it to work on Vista. Perhaps when it gets a more significant user base, Silkroad (and other games with similar problems) will get updated to support DX10 (i'm thinking it's just a faulty DirectX version detector).

Your EAX beta drivers that "work" is actually an emulator to work with the new directx10 because DirectSound is no longer supported by DX, and EAX used that to the drive its engine. It works, but only due to the fact that they had to essentially add in a few DLL's to make it work that way, in the end, EAX is NOT natively supported but i'm sure they will resolve that in the future.
Of course your keyboard and mouse will work, thumbdrives are natively supported as both mass storage and additional RAM, but if you have a 3rd party joystick, I think you'll find some small issues with it, hense me bracketing the joystick portion.
If your games support DirectX9c they "should" work with DirectX10 but you won't have the additional features of DirectX10, DirectX7 and 8, as well as 9b I believe will have some compatibility issues with DirectX10 and you'll have to do the fix that I suggested in running it in compatability mode. As for Java, well, I run a series of business grade reporting servers at work which all drive Vista mad through tomcat (java server) and Java RE 1.5 update 10, I personally have see this happen, and if you search around online, there are many examples of all that I just stated.
The No-CD issue was one that I was unable to test yet, but if it's workin for you I'm wicked happy as many industry leaders felt that with the new security and enhanced monitoring Vista does, that the No-CD hacks wouldn't work at all. So in the end, thats really good to hear.
The code though in SilkRoad would be nice to be ported to 9c and then your Vista experience wouldn't be so troubled by doing the compatibility mode, but as you said, its free software so its hard to pressure them to do much other then keep the servers running
Just another thought - have you installed DirectX 9.0c onto Windows Vista as well?
If not then do it. DX9 and DX10 can be installed on the same machine and this can speed up games or allow games which failed before. Works fine for me, cannot guarantee it will not bork your system so be warned!

will still use XP for at least 1 year, think that time Vista would be really perfective and less bugs.

Anyhow, glad you have it fixed, have a good one!

Today's patch mentions that it will be "Compatible with Windows Vista". We'll see in a few hours how that'll pan out.
