Thinking Of Getting Archlord (Need A Summary)

KrydelKrydel Member Posts: 15
Ive been looking for a new mmorpg since star wars galaxies went NGE and never really found one that caught my eye.

Now i find it is an inconvenience to pay for a mmorpg and was then limited to really bad mmorpg's., until i found that Archlord had gone free.

I have been researching each mmorpg on the list and this one strikes me the most - it seems to have alot of eyecandy and gameplay looks good - rather similar to lineage 2, which is good, but P2P so i cant have it

As usual i have ignored the rating which seems somewhat low for what looks like an amazing game.

Basically, i need a pro's and con's summary of Archlord before i go ahead and get the game. Can it be compared to guildwars?, just i got bored of guildwars quickly because it seemed to limit combat quite a bit (you died waay too much)

Are there any other games it can be likened to?

>>.>>.>>I know this is worded badly but its late, im tired, and cant think well<<.<<.<<

    Just... Don't...

Use your money for something fun and with a decent playerbase and system. For the love of Azna, get FFXI or WoW. Both of them are fun, innovative, competitive, and have some decent story elements. Plus the content is being supported by the manufacturer.

ArchLord has been out since last year and there has not been one single content update since the launch. Its pathetic!

Anyway.... Use your money on something fun, or get  a pizza, or get a pair of shoes.

    Just dont...DONT...get this game.

Oh, and as for it being like Guild Wars...

Not in the slightest. Guild Wars has many different quests that are fun, has a story, has customizable characters, and is entertaining!

This... this is for people that have absolutely no way to play for a good MMO and cant afford to get GW... Well, thats no true because at least  Rappelz or Scions of Fate are more fun.

    RIP: Masamunex - 75PLD/37WAR Ramuh

We will rise again from the ashes. To take over Vana'Diel.

    Yes,

Reaper is right.......DONT!!.....Buying this game is a waste of $$$...........I bought it, and not long after playing....was wishing I would have spent my money on something else.....anything....besides that crappy game............

damn, i quit wow and vanguard isn't any fun so i picked this up at the store.  after hearing you guys, i don't want to open it!

so, what do i gotta do to keep busy until something good comes out?

already tried the free MMOs.  the communities can hardly speak english and it's pretty dry.  i've been waiting for something like 9dragons to hit north america for a while, but the community is so poor =/

Two F2p MMOs that aren't Asian styled is Anarchy Online and Shadowbane. Check those out, they're a little older, but they're good.

I don't agree withe the guys telling you to don't buy it, i think it has nice grafix and is fun to play, got it last week  though might get sick of it soon but so far i can't see anything negative about it. maybe the movement but thats all.. nice game, free2play why not buy it

You should try the game yourself and then make your judgement instead of listening to people who think Everquest clones like WoW and FFXI are innovative.

"As usual i have ignored the rating which seems somewhat low for what looks like an amazing game."

Seriously i'm not trying to be rude... but why do you think the score is so low? You think that the top rated games are top rated because of millions of fan boys, and that their just trashing Archlord because their mean spirited?

The whole reason for this web site is for players to give their honest ratings on a game, and to average out those ratings.

Archlord has a low rating of 6.6 because it's DOG DOO. It SUCKS, its mindless, repetitive grinding - no reason to play, plus the pvp is horribly implemented. CM is not the developer, and it shows in promised updates that never get delivered. The game had the sounds of crickets, (everyone left) until they decided to make it free.

The game didn''t get better because they made it free.

But heh, whatever, obviously the majority of people who played the game and rated it don't know what thier talking about, and you a guy who hasn't played it - does.

    Shakes head in disbelief....

Some lessons in life are better received from a first-hand experience. I would not recommend the game to anyone, but I will not tell you not to get it. Sometimes, one man's garbage is another man's treasure. Other times, it's just garbage. Only you know which it is for you.

Unfortunatly, the ratings on this site had never represented quality, unless you want to argue that Everquest 2 is the best mmorpg? Thats what I thought. It indeed seems that the majority of people who played the game and rated it don't know what their talking about. There are a tons of comments "I played for 1 days and it sucks" and "I played it for 10 minutes and then quit like omg!". But anyway, it seems more people are actually willing to give the game a fair chance now that its free, as the ratings went up from 6,3 to 6,6 in just a few weeks.

You should try the game and see what you think as every game is subjective - what I like you may not like.

You can grab the retail for as little as £4.99 now (UK Game, was right next to RFO for £3.98!!) so is a small price to pay to try a game out and you can then always go back to it later as there are no monthly fees.

This game was a disaster of a port.  It may be a good game when it first started in its original country. The port is horrid, just look into the process Codemasters has to go through just to try and get a change made for their customers.  In my opinion, you can play free mmo's that are up to and even exceed the quality of this game.

:(   Yeah, we had a great community of players with the DE fans before the huge let down.  A bunch of good ideas came to light there, which I've seen pop up in other games.  None have brought all the concepts together into a good release yet though.  Almost like the devs of new games can look around see what ideas could make a great game, then decide neah, lets go with a cookie cutter mmo because a. The customers are happy to play the same crappy game in the guise of a brand new name or b. the devs can't handle implementing complex systems.

And yes I'm bitter about Codemasters turning to porting foreign titles instead of making their own games.  Just like I still carry around a little ball of hate for EA after they ditched their massively multiplayer battletech game in favor of funding a Harry Potter game all those years ago.

If posting personal opinions on forum boards is ridiculous, then I guess you joined the club.

I picked up a copy of this game from the Direct2Drive service a while back, I did a little research before hand ( not enough ) and all in all looked pretty decent, there were some nice movies and gameplay vids etc. After the installation I decided to create my first character a Moon Elf: Ranger ( there were only two possible choices Elementalist and Ranger ), there was no gender customisation so I had to go with female, the only parts I could customise during the creation was the hair styles and the face types.

I thought graphically the game was pretty amazing, it does have a click to move system which I am not a big fan of.

There are quests to do but most were along the lines of "kill this mob 10 times" or "run off and touch that stone" ( it was like this for the first ten levels or so ).

The game does have some interesting features like the Chantra Shop where you can buy items that increase movement speed, exp gained, gold dropped and the like for a certain period of time.

To me Archlord was pretty much grinding and I was never really a big fan of that, the lack of classes was also a little confining for Humans there were Mage, Warrior and Archer, Orcs had the same but under different names.

Although the game was graphically beautiful the gameplay did not really appeal to me. Personally I would not really reccomend this to anyone either.

I stronly recommend looking at the company that creates the game before buying. RF Online is exactly the same way, and made by the same company. That's part of my reason for not buying LotR: Turbine made DDO and is now making LotR.

Yes I also didnt like what was done to RF Online, the Korean version was much better. The gameplay vids did fool me but for some people I guess the gameplay would be interesting and it is also free to play appealing yet again to more gamers who do not want to be paying a monthly fee. LotR however I think was a pretty interesting game, I managed to get in for the european beta and I did like what saw. It did seem a little slow and there was a feeling like something was missing in this game but that was just the lack of bright colours and special effects when a warrior uses a special "slash" type move. The game I do find fits in very well with the book and the way instances are used is very interesting.

p.s. sorry if this was off topic :p
