Ok, what is it with people and this really poor excuse of a game.

Runescape is an extremly poor attempt at an MMORPG and is mostly played by 10 year olds! If you are looking for GOOD free MMORPGS your best bet is to look at the games listing and look at those in beta testing!

Knights online is in beta at the moment and its free! very good game and for those playing runscape GO PLAY THIS!

If your gonna offend a (Good) game like that, you have to give reasons. Playing beta test games just means you have to pay stupidly high rates when the beta is over, RS is free forever (There is a members section aswell though). All your paying for is better grafics, which no one really cares about in the long run, and not, in most cases, better gameplay. So, stick with the games that are actually good, and not the ones that pretend to be.

theres too many damn reasons is what it is... i played RuneScape for quite some time and have a lvl 72 non-pure, 68 pure and shared level 89... and thats a year of my life i want BACK...

if u want a game thats better then runescape and will always be mostly free, go play conquer online www.conqueronline.com ...

its pretty much free unless u wanna buy "dragon balls" to upgrade ur equipment, but u can find them off certain monters anyways so...

its not the greatest game and i dont play it myself but it sure as hell is a step up form that sad excuse for an MMORPG, RuneScape...

Ok you want reasons how about.....

Much better graphics (which you say most peopel dont want, they want gameplay - i think i am gopnna disagree with that!)

Alot more quests

Alot more items

More areas

More interactivity

Althought has the same "style" of fighting runescape has a hit, hit, hit, hit, hit, hit ..etc where as games like KO invlove SKILL you give a random person a lvl 30 character and put him up against a lvl 20 who knows the game, i guarentee you the lvl 20 wins! On RS i know this is not the case. My friends logged me on his character, lvl 60 something i believe and all i did was click on someone, click attack, everynow and again click spell - WHOA how much fun!

Always expanding - As you will be playing a price eventually this game is continually expanding, by new items, quests, maps, events, wars...etc.

Hows that?

I suppose you get a few points for trying to give reasons, but not explaining them gets you nothing. As for your last pont, I do pay, and we do get updates, but I pay £3.20 ($5.00) a month, instead of something like $20 for CoH. I have also met very few 'little kids' playing RS, most people are at least in their teens. And what your saying about a lvl 20 beating a lvl 30, WTF is the point in training then!?

Some people just cant tell a classic game when they see it.

Ok, sorry for the high number of posts, but I must say this. I just had a go at that conquer online. As it was going to take 9 hours to download, I gave up. my verdict follows, from looking at info on the site:

1. Grafics not much better than RS1. I assume if you think thats better than RS, you havent seen the new engine. This is the same sort of quality as the SNES.

2. Very few skills/quests. Speaks fo itself really.

3. Small map. About half the size of RS.

4. Amazingly huge filesize. You need to download it, this can take from 10 hours to 3 days, RS is browser based.

5. From what I can tell, same combat system as RS. Making it worse.

6. Cartoon grafics. Obviously not designed to be realistic.

7. Site looks crappy. Not a very professional looking site.

wow practically everything u just said there is complete bullshit... not joking, take it from somebody who has played both games...

okay 1st off it doesnt take 10+ hours 2 download if u actually have a good connection... i DL'd the whole program in under 2 hours easily on my cable connection...

now as for the graphics... their MUUUCCCHHHH better then runescape... runescape doesnt even compare... skill effects are actually very good, the backgrounds are the best i've seen in a 2d game (like hand drawn), the character models r actually 3d, and WAYYYY more detailed... the fact that u cant say RS1/RS2 is even close to this just goes to show how much of a raving fanboy u are...

now as for "very few skills"... ummm once again u prove urself a complete raving fanboy... just in case u cant remember, runescape doesnt have ANY combat skills at all... each character in Conquer actually has quite a few skills...

smaller map then runescape?... NOPE lol maybe u should actually play the game before u say stupid shit like this... remember... i've played it, u havnt...

... okay so now with this "amazingly huge filesize"... this just goes to show ur a complete MMORPG noob... for starters compared to many other games out there, this isnt that big... secondly its only because theres actually something called CONTENT in this game (unlike RuneScape)... more content/graphics/sound = bigger file... thats not saying much for RuneScape seeing as u can play it in a browser its so small HAHAH...

okay then u go and say that the combat system is more or less the same as RS, making it not much better... okay once again, total bullshit... runescape = only 1 person can fight another target at a time and the way the damage/hit rate/evade calculates itself is stupid as hell... compared to RuneScape, Conquers combat system is like a freaking Picasso...

this is the one that really set me off tho... where u say "cartoonish graphics, obviously not designed to be realistic"... and runescape is what?...

all i gotta say 2 u is think before u type... over the last day or 2 u have defined to me the meaning of the term "raving fanboy"... RuneScape is a crap excuse for an MMORPG and to say its one of the best games out there just makes u one of the biggest MMORPG noob's ive ever met...

if im sounding harsh here or anything GOOD!!!... if theres one thing in this world i cant stand its stupidity and this guys full of it...

You know what I find really annoying? The fact that when people diss Runescape, most of their reasons for insults (except graphics, which is a pretty poor insult in my opinion) are the same flaws that are contained in any MMORPG.

Some examples of Runescape "bad reasons not to play it":

All you do is level and craft and stuff.

Hmm, if you didn't realize, that is pretty much the exact same thing you do in any other MMORPG, you level a lot, you do some crafting maybe, and you PvP. In case you were wondering, Runescape features those same things that any other MMORPG would do.

In PvP all I do is point and click click and click..

Ok, in many of the MMORPG's I've played, most of the times you point, click, and click, with the occasional F1, WOW! Sure, in other games there are buffs, but does it really matter?

It just blows.

What kind of insult is that? Learn to actually give reasons for insults.

I'm not saying the game is great, neither am I saying it is bad, I'm just saying that some of the reasons people give are pretty pathetic.

Anyways back to the topic, most of the beta games are free until they go commercial, so head on over to the Game List and decide which one to try.
