Typical ‘day in the game

Would someone share with me what all there is to do and what they do during a typical log in.  Lets say I have been playing for a few weeks and I log in to play for 3 hours.  What would you spend those 3 hours doing?  Please share your experiences…

      Lets see.

At first you would start out by getting food and water to sustain you and make sure you are gaining skills at max effeciency.  Then you would head over to the arena,if you are a roman combatant, and stand arround for hours hitting some AFK player over and over and over. If their is anyone willing to train with you thats not AFK... or if their guild mates arent on you may find someone to hit you to raise your defences.  You may want to join one of those guilds in order to have sparring partners, because most likely you will not have anyone to train with if you dont...  And most of those players will tell you this while they hit on one of their AFK guild mates...

If you are a crafter you would start out gathering and gathering items for hours to get your foraging and gathering skills up. Then you would buy with the 5k ses you start with one or two of the many tools you will need to start your carrer, whatever feild that may be.  Then you will spend many many hours adding peices one at  a time, about 30 seconds each, to your project untill it is done.  And repeat this about a thousand times untill you max that skill, trying to sell each item you make. Since each item you can make at such low skill will be of low QL and most anyone can make it themselves, it is likley that noone will buy them , and since you dont have much room in your inventory to carry all these items most likley you will destroy them, having wasted the money for the tools you used up making them...

Sorry to be so blunt, but expect to be dissapointed after the inital excitement wears off.  The excitement comes from the revolutionary combat system and the way the game is carried by the community instead of quests and scripted stories.

Keep watching the game, as when they lower times and prices and reduce the grind a bit more this game will be amazing. You can buy the game since their is no monthly fee, but verming is not recomended(by me), as in this games current state it is just a waste of your RL hard earned money.

And pray that they see reason sooner, rather than when its too late...

PS: I could paint a prettier picture as some do, but I am not gonna blow smoke up your A$$ only the facts!

There is a large variety of skills you can learn inside Roma Victor.  Some are easy to master (such as fishing), some  take quite a bit of time (such as carpentry or distance-running), and then there is the elite skills such as smithing-armor that takes not only a TREMENDOUS amount of time, but either a lot of money or a bunch of friends to help you as well.

If you've only been playing RV for three weeks, you've probably mastered a few skills, have already explored some of the vast territory in the virtual world, maybe had a fight or two, maybe were mauled by a bear when you strayed too far from populated areas, but unless you've joined a guild or some other enterprise, you're probably directionless and feeling a little despair.  You have many paths ahead of you but without help from some other players, they will probably all be expensive and perhaps pointless ones.

For instance, there is a huge demand for firewood piles.  All guilds in Corstopitum will pay 500 sesterces for a good firewood pile that would take you about 90 minutes to build.  But, you must master woodcutting first in order to make good firewood piles.  To do that, you must have a couple good handsaws, twine and strips to repair them, and several hatchets.  You go out in the forest, fell trees, and extract branches and logs until your woodcutting skill gets about 90 or so.  This may take a couple evenings to do.

Now, part of the FUN in this game, and most new players who play one time and then leave don't understand this at all, is figuring out how to get all those tools and supplies without paying out of your own pocket.  If you join a guild, problem solved.  Or, you can do things like find a blacksmith who can make you the tools and offer to build him 3 firewood piles for free in return.  Maybe a person who is into construction needs 100 high quality rocks and since your foraging skill is already quite high, you offer to spend two evenings gathering rocks for him in return for money.  People who mine iron ore are ALWAYS looking for players to act as pack mules to simply carry a load or two of ore back from the mines in return for cash or goods of some kind.

The world of Roma Victor does not come with a prescripted path for you to take at all.  You must forge your own.  That is the challenge.  Also, one very simple fact that is apparenlty not understood by somebody who continues to make schizophrenic posts in this forum is that unless items in game, and the skills needed to make them, do not take considerable time, then they are of no value. Not only is time spent in RV eventually rewarded by virtue of you becoming a part of the economy or of the warrior/fighter elite, but you get a great sense of satisfaction from having achieved it.

Man, I do write pretty well for somebody who is only 10 years old huh?

Praise yourself like one too lol, and I can believe you are still on about that?

     All jokes aside.

The fact that everyones suggestion to just join a guild and never have to verm dosent make RB squirm baffels me...

Seems that they would want people to have to verm once a month to maintain the games costs if nothing else.  By the prices being so high they are steping on their own toes.

As for your statement of, if it dosent take a long time to gain their is no value is flawed all over.   It took me awhile to master enough skills to become a citizen and after all that time and money wasted I can see no real benefit. except mabe red underwear... yeah it was worth it I can feel the value overflowing...

Again as I have said their are aspects of the game that are fun and revolutionary but the time sinks and costs will wear you down as they have most everyone else.  Just hope that they fix them so we can have a more balanced community and fun experiance in the near future.

Before this thread turns into a fight...

From Kemarik's description the game sounds absolutely what I've been looking for. I'm sold for now...but I'm sure I'll catch some flaw that turns me away.

And the guild thing. Most guilds provide you with the basics. IF you want extra, thats when you invest. Tho some guilds will issue you some pretty advanced stuff.

By all means buy the game , but I just dont want people to go in with their hopes all high just for them to be dissapointed later as alot were and leave forever never looking back. That not what the community needs.

The game has great ideas and the combat alone had me sold.  I am just glad you dont have to pay monthly ATM cause the game would be 100% empty by now.  They just need to balance the verm so it lasts as long as it should. And the times sinks are reduced to levels that average players can enjoy too.

Just dont expect to join a legion and actually look like a legionary, god forbid that ..another important thing: PvP combat can get quite confusing since everyone is naked...so remember the guy wearing no articles of clothing might actually be a roman not a barbarian?

actually most people are starting to put something on...

And legion armour was actually recently made craftable anyways. And people may start wearing them, now that weapons and armour are correctly modified by its quality,

I was in a battle just yesterday.  4 barbs versus 6 romans.  The barbs mostly had kilts and the romans mostly had tunics.  It was very clear who was who.  And with the new armor now being made and the barb-only weapons added, things will look a little more authentic.
