I signed up for beta back last year, but have yet to be selected for it. I think there is probably more french beta testers than any one else because it is being developed on some island near France.
Accepting beta applications seams to be the catch phrase used to get your game posted on gaming websites like this one. Not an indication that anything is actually ready for testing.
They have been testing for a while now but they havent selected me.
They are doing a really smart thing with dark and light and that is testing the engine before the game, i been in the beta for a good while and there is pritty much no gameplay in there at all yet it is all world testing which is cool.
This game sounds major, especially on PvP Kingdoms, since there is literally tens of thousands!!CMON BETA!!I check everyday, hope thats not considerd desperate.

Language doesnt really matter IMO since I'm registered since last june I speak French as well and not being selected I got 2 comp different specs but I dunno what else I have to do... But for sure I refuse to spam the forum to have more chance to get in it since post count give you more chance to get in it.
Madagascar is off the coast of South Africa. I would like to see how they make a descent server working from the southern hemisphere with the bulk of the players in the northern hemisphere.
And like the rest of you I really want to get in this beta test.
I hope to get in just like everyone else signed up already some time ago and i am waiting to hear something, i really wanna test it but if not so be it. Irth online beta is coming also
One day all will die, surely you but never I.

I think they also filter out players based on thier system. We have all seen the graphics, and the mention of a large world. Such things can only be run on higher end computers.
I have 1 question. If i makin my beta profile everytime i hit finish than will load a blank page. What this mean? Its good or bad? They should put there somekind of message Profile created or whatever. How i can know now that its created or not?
The team who is creating DnL are located in Mauritius, a French-owned island in the Indian Ocean off of Madasgascar but also have several people in France working on parts of the game as well.
Beta testing is random however it is geared towards French-speaking people. I don't think they will have much server problems because they have pretty hi-tech data transmitioning devices on that island, Mauritius is always home to good weather anyhow.
I signed up for the Beta Testing when the sign-up first started and my brother, sister, and a few of my friends have signed up for it but nobody has been accepted. Perhaps because we only speak Tsalagi (Cherokee) and English? Probably not.
Whoever got in and is registered on this site better give us some good insider stuff.
I have yet to be accepted in any of the waves and I have been around in the community for about a year now. But I do know a couple of people (not naming names :P ) who have accidently let slip that they are in the beta - all of them can't speak a lick of french so I doubt the beta is geared towards the french community only. I would guess too that post count has little if any bearing on selection as I know a few others who are real active in the community and have yet to get an invite, and others who have posted very few times and have been invited.
My guess would be that prior experiance, and certain computer specs are right now a big factor of who gets in.... but then again I honestly don't know.
I do know however that this game is for real - way too many videos and screenshots to be faked. Also they were at E3 and there were quite a few sites that paid them a visit and gave reviews, pictures, and the like of this game in action. Oh, and Oracle - if you have signed up for the beta then you have already filled out the questionnare, they're one and the same.
Anyhow, I'd like to chat more but I gotta go now so pax.

Well I signed up for the beta, gave them my e-mail and all but there was no questionnaire when I signed up and on the DNL FAQ it said it would be e-mailed to me. Well they haven't sent it, and from what I've read I'm not the only person in this position.

Well, try going here: http://www.darkandlight.net/user.php and then click on the "Edit my Beta Tester Profile" link (assuming you have an account you should see it) which will then take you to the beta sign-up questionare..... though it could take light years for it to show up or be submitted when you are done, there have been alot of complaints about it being way too slow to load.
Anyhow as far as I know that's the only questionare you have to fill out and I don't think they will e-mail you anything other than the beta invitation itself.
I followed this game and signed up to the original forum within ther first week it was up as I did with Dragon Empires and both had seriously depressed me when they both decided to go to full player run economies. DnL was so damn promising but I refuse to buy into these types of economies anymore they just don't work.
Anyone that thinks they do go take a look at AC2,SWG,Horizons,etc..etc... unless you are a love sick crafter there is nothing to lure in the adventurer. Crafting supply drops just don't get it! AC2 and SWG have been patching in drops now because it has hurt there player base. I have done tons of crafting over the years as well and I just despise it. I am not the crafter type and a good game has balance for all play styles. Nothing worse than grinding up levels and not being able to get the armor you need or weapons or killing the same old mobs ( farming) for craft supplies. I was a beta tester in Horizons and lasted 6 weeks after release god only knows why and nothing worse than killing golems repeatedley for craft drops.
It was so bad killing boss's yeilded a few gold and a craft supply. With economies and drops like this the hearty adventurer is left with nothing and as it has happened before the numbers on Horizons dwindled significantly due to this. I feel that there are some awesome games in development like DnL for instance but no one seems to be paying attention to the past mistakes of developers. For the ( lack of a better term sorry ) care bear players out there that love to craft these types of games make them happy as hell. I can't personally handle spending all day, every day in a game grinding on crafting it's not in me and I am definitley not alone the large majority of seasoned MMO players are more the adventure type, explorer type etc.
I just wish the DnL team would have thought this one through I don't even go to the forums anymore because they refused to even listen to many people about the consequences of a 100%player run economy. Imho this will be the major downfall of the game.

EVE-Online has a working player based economy despite the problems with blue print copies early in the game. With only one server and competition between the Dark and Light alignments getting high level and valued items should not be a problem (the crafters will want to see their alignment strong and large so they can have access to the resources)
I think you just had some bad luck in joining substandard games. Don't forget that clans can tax the economy to supply their fighters in this game and that NPC vendors will exist as a backup to the player economy.
In addition the player made economy is the motivation behind PvP as clans and alignments compete for valued territory. Without it PvP reduces to arena type combat having no purpose.
It would be really cool if there was a vending skill where you can put items into an easy to access shop environment. That really helps stabalize an economy and put items in that were missing before.

I am sure you will get an email like all other beta invites.

Post count on the forum does not matter, i know this because i have never posted on the forums yet i got in the beta(and i am not french either).
I think the main thing they look for in the early testers is experience(i have tested just about every mmorpg since EQ).
