720p versus 1080i

So I was wondering which one was better and decided to do some research. Heres what I found:

In 720p The screen has 720 vertical lines giving it crisp quality and the lines all get replaced progresivelly to give it a very nice transition between frames. 1080i has 1080 vertical lines giving it more quality than the 720p, but when it changes its frames it only replaces every other line, it does this faster than the human brain can process, but makes the transitions not as smooth as it is on 720p.

So, what do you guys think? which is better? 720p or 1080i?

I've only got a 32", so it's probably not the best screen for comparison.  That said, I can't really tell a difference between the quality of the 2 settings.  I prefer 1080i because of the resolution though.

If I was rich, I'd just go with a 1080p and get the best of both worlds.

The difference is not noticable, unless you are a fighter pilot or you have been playing PC games that run above 30FPS every day of your life for the past 10+ years. Its technical babble, they are both of good quality.

The I stands for Interlaced.... So on frame 1 it shows 540 vertical lines... skipping every other line... Then on frame 2 it fills in the blanks...

1080i will be better for every scene that doesn't have fast changes happening on the screen...

If you cant notice the refresh why not just go with the higher resolution?

I have a 60" Plasma in the living room set at 1080i.

I have a 37" LCD in the bedroom set at 720p.

To tell you the honest truth, I can't tell any difference between the two....

    You should read here.

For all intensive purposes, 720p is better than 1080i, especially when considering xbox 360.

Sony came out with 1080p in combo with  blu-ray  which is 1080p. They also have their LCD and LCD TV's that run on 1080p. So expect 1080p to start becoming the new standard. 780p and 1080i are incomparable.
