    Did you tell yourself this?

Its too far into development for them not to tell us something like this.  And no mmo will be released on a 360, imo, I just don't see it working.  Mythic wouldnt do it anyway.  And why would they rewrite their engine to be 360 api specific?  Thats just stupid.

Just your own rumor I'm affraid.

    From site -

    Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning

    RPG type: MMORPG

    Exclusive? No (next-gen systems)

    Release Date: 2007

Though this game has yet to be announced for the Xbox 360, Mythic Entertainment let us check out a version of the game, currently scheduled as a PC only release, running on an Xbox 360. As of their last comments, they were considering bringing it to the Xbox 360 and PS3, but still considering how to properly pull off an MMORPG on a console. We'll of course have more information on this as soon as it's available. Until then, all our Warhammer Online information can be found over on the PC object page.

This is a year old article, and the only place mentioned.  At GDC Austin, it was running on PCs and NOT 360s. (Was there in person) (Thats where I got my cb)

All im asking is that do u think from the information from IGN they would create a 360 version of the game. Don't be getting all bitchy at me now.
  • gozzgullgozzgull Member Posts: 71
Am I bitching by showing you information?  No.

Dont try to lure a flame...

It is not comming out for the 360.  They havent shown it on an xbox in a year.  As well, the xbox was available to run their client only with no network at all, all networking previews were done q4 2006 - now.

in one of the videos with paul barnett he says that "we are still kicking around with cross platform idea's" so as of right now it wont be on any console, but hopefully over the next few months we will get a definative idea, would be awesome to be cross platform, could play the game with my console loving friends
  • gozzgullgozzgull Member Posts: 71
Well, you can preorder the game if you are in CB, and you can ONLY preorder a pc version, so its safe to say no.  Not now.  Not this release.  After an expansion?  Maybe, but that would be unfair for enw console players, cz theyd be lvl 1 when we are all ruling the world under destruction.

Look, NerdKill, you seriously need to calm down. No one here can answer your question, as people have already stated officially there has been no word of the game coming to the 360.  3 people above have already said this, so you either need to accept it, or stop posting.

I've got an xbox 360 and personally, I would never play an MMO on it.  Heck I barely play any games on it, I really only use it as a media center extender.

I'm not saying others wont play on their xbox 360's if the game does get ported to it after release.  I just prefer the feel of my WASD configuration on my keyboard on my gaming machine.
  • EliasThorneEliasThorne Member UncommonPosts: 338
I thought that you could get a keyboard/muse for the 360 - if so it would make a great platform due to being easier to program due to standard hardware.

Nerdkill, seriously, chill out.  No one has been unreasonably rude with you, yet you're getting more and more aggitated.  Try reading the posts without the chip on your shoulder.

But anyway, as said, other than that one time at E3 '06, there has been no other mention of bringing WAR to the consoles.

And thank god!  If they develop this game with consoles in mind, I'm going to have to throat-punch someone.  I am so tired of "console-itis" ruining perfectly good PC games.  Oblivion?  Did anyone like that bloody interface?

I take it back.  I would accept a console port ONLY if there was no gamepad support.  XBox users want to play an MMO?  Plug in a keyboard and mouse.

    Seriously.

Definitely - I couldn't play an MMO via gamepad, that said I was curious how it would work... I should have tried DDO like that :)

I too simply don't understand why anyone would play an MMO on a console. Without keyboard and mouse, it's worthless. A enormous part of the whole feeling and worth of communicating and socializing is destroyed. And with a keyboard and mouse, why not just play on a PC right away?

There might be a small crowd which lives where they can't receive any good connections with the internet or afford a pc, but is it then worth making a entirely new version of the game just to appeal to them? And really, if you can afford a console AND the game you CAN afford a PC ... ugh I don't get it..

I have sent this post from the FUTAR! 2063, to be precise. And no, there was never a release of WAR on the 360. Unless someone else from the future FUTURE goes back in time, and ports one in while no one is looking.

However, in 2017, a "killer quake" will sink Southern California, creating what is now known as Arizona Bay. I heard there was some interesting surfing to be had, so you should probably check it out.

As far as I'm concerned they can port it to as many systems as they like as long as they don't have people without the proper input devices (mouse/keyboard) on the regular servers, because that would definitely suck.

There would be masses of people who can't write since they have no keyboard, and no matter what they do the controller players would suck compared to people with keyboards, simply because it's faster to press one single key than having some ridiculous combo for the same action.

And that would be necessary because you don't have enough buttons on a controller.

Come on guys, ok Nerdkill lost his temper, but he was provoked. At least I would also feel bad if i ask "Will there be a strawberry ice cream in the future, here, i got this article that say strawberry farmers and milk producers are talking .... what you think?"

And then i get bombarded with "worst. idea. ever." or "noob, it will never work".

Really, be kind and you will treated as well.

Now, to the matter at hand, it is a distinct possibility. As said, there IS at least one version of the WAR client running on X-box 360.

As for the X-box not having mmorpg, wake up! the xbox already has one mmorpg and AGE OF CONAN, another next gen mmorpg, is coming out on it too.... so why not?

Why Mythic would renounce the expanded market especially when one of its direct(ish) competitor is going that way?

You DO realize the console market is like around 3-5 time bigger than PCs so why not? Xbox has usb ports, so stick a mouse and keyboard there if you do not wanna use gamepad.

Yes, maybe they will not do it, but this is far from being an outlandish, impossible hypothesis.

Actually Nerdkill was the one to get really ugly first by responding to someone with stick that up your ass then got mad when it was pointed out that the article is old.

I personaly HOPE they don't put it on an console.  I've played console mmorpgs and to be honest they suck.   Having seen what games the xbox 360 offers and the type of gamers that normally worship the ground it walks on that have one aren't usually MMORPG players .  Thats not to say there aren't some and that some aren't internet gamer savvy but...all the people that I know  that have one..are not MMORPG gamers.  They're all about FPSing and sports I hardly see this as a really large market of people greiving to play an MMORPG.

It works for AOC in my opinion because AOC is a twitch based combat game which is what the most common xbox 360 player is. (i stress most common player and IMO because they are my views and not factual based, there's no real facts or numbers to prove or dispprove)

Seeing as there's been so little said to date since that ancient article about a console version and they've not shown it on an xbox again I think the chances are fairly low.   I won't say it won't ever happen because you never know but I think the idea of it is pretty low at this point.

no, the other poster told him like "did you told yourself this?" "only your own rumor I'm afraid" with a clear superiority attitude. Nerdkill post the article where the X-box version is mentioned as fact.

Look, I know he didn't behave correctly, but he is not the only one.

Beside.. what games the x box offer? let see... Oblivion. one of the greatest RPG ever. Enchanted Arms, another RPG. Blue Dragon and Mass Effects coming out soon, other RPGs...... Heck! the whole KOTOR series was released first on Xbox than pc...

No, sorry. X box games are NOT only shooters or sports game. Maybe your friends are, but i assure you, they are not the only one having an xbox.

I don't get all this hostility toward the console. What do you lose if they do a Xbox version eh? As long as servers are kept separate, you do not have to mingle with the consolists rabble, right?

*shrug* I think it would be a smart move for them and if they pull it off right, they could get a good slice of the market.

Most people are not against bringing an MMO to the Xbox 360, but are against the idea of cross-platform, where 360 gamers can venture on the same servers as those of the PC users.

Since WoW, the MMO market started to rise again, and started to be interesting for casual gamers. Since then more and more developers/publishers want to get the hands on an MMO title, and now even the console makers think they can get profit of the MMO market. It's a chain reaction, that only works well on PC. If MS wants to join the MMO market, get rid of the gamepads, and use keyboard and mouse.

Anothor thing that might conflict in the cross-platorm is networking, and server design. Don't even wanna start talking about that.

Yeah, Xbox/360 had some rpgs, but seriously, if you were a hardcore rpg player what where you going to buy? PS2, or an Xbox/Xbox360. This is neither here nor there, though.

Xbox360 is getting a port of Age of Conan. As I understand it the first 20 levels of your character are going to be single player. The game is more action oriented than your usual MMOG. Which makes it more applicable to a console, if but barely. But the 360 players will be at a disadvantage to those playing it on a PC. Huxley, which is also coming out on 360, being an MMOFPS, console players might be better off vs their pc counterparts, though WASD and a mouse will still do better than a gamepad in an FPS environment.

You mention how consoles have a higher installed userbase. I imagine they do, since even with the rising costs of consoles, they're still cheaper, and easier to maintain than a pc. The games are as simple as popping a disc in, and off you go. The games are far more casual in that you can start and stop any time you want. Which is pretty much the opposite of what MMOGs are about. Not to mention that console owners are used to games that are bug free, which goes against everything MMOGs are about as well.

I imagine you'd need Xbox live to be able to play AoC. So not only do you need the 360 and the HD, you need an ISP, Xbox live, and then to pay the monthly fee for AoC on top of all that? I think that's gonna turn a lot of potential players off, as far as the console goes. Yeah, AoC might squeeze out a few more sales by being available on the 360, but I just don't think the console market is ready for the MMO thing, yet. Like FFXI on PS2. I don't know the exact numbers, but I doubt it sold very well on the console, though I'm sure it did fine on the PC, and it was designed from the get go as a PS2 game, so it used the gamepad very well.

Given what I've seen from people while playing console games online, I personally won't miss any of the console gamers if they don't port WAR over.

  • VolkmarVolkmar Member UncommonPosts: 2,501

Yes, most probably true, but then most people with an xbox 360 already have the gold membership (that might not even be required and the silver one is free) because that is how you play online with ANY Xbox game. Same thing for the Hard Disk. Most Xbox sold were WITH hard disk, nowaday you see a lot of Core system collecting dusts in shops... exactly for that, anybody with a clue, want the Premium version for a reason... beside, you can buy the harddisk as a separate add on even later. Finally, maybe Funcom will knock a dollar or two from the price for Xbox 360 users, to take in account for the Live membership... or then not. Especially if you do not need the Gold Memembership and the free one is good enough.

ISP? well... this is the same as for PCs and as we are talking about online games, it is a given they already pay for a isp. The product is targeted at console gamers WITH internet capabilities obviously... and a great majority have those as you can notice almost all Console games have online multiplayer nowadays.

Yes, Consoles have a much much higher installation base... or better Gamer base. I'm pretty sure there are way more PCs in the world than consoles, but 80% of all those pcs never see a game. 100% of all consoles instead are used just for that playing.

Just to give you some numbers, the best EVER sold PC game is "The sims 2" with 22 millions copies sold wolrdwide. (and is the only one, after that we plummet to Blizzard titles, starcraft and WoW with 8-10 millions)

GTA San Andreas, for PS2, sold 65 million copies in a few weeks.

Most Console games go over the million mark easily enough, a PC game that sell a million copies is a masterpiece. So, yeah, the market is kinda bigger.

About cross playing, I would think Mythic would make them in different servers because they are more aware of such problems in the users, but really? Is THIS the ONLY problem people have with console-mmorpg and THAT is why you consider it impossible?

Finally, FFXII has 600K-ish subscribers (didn't check if they have updated numbers) got released on PS2 first in Japan (it is actually the game that made the PS2 go online-mode), but yeah, there is no way to know how many are ps2 users and how many pc users at this time.
