Just thought I would share the news, United Football (or soccer if you prefer!) is available in Open Beta and will be free to play :)

Taken from the press release .....

United Football is a free to play multiplayer football (soccer!) game where each player on the pitch is controlled by a gamer located anywhere around the world. United Football also includes in-game AI controlled “bots” for those times when there are not enough players around to make up full teams, as well as in-game chatrooms, messaging and a buddy list to keep track of your friends. The game is now in open Beta and Staggan’s ethos is “Release early, update often and be led by the community, since after all, they play the game!”

    OMG, this is fekking cool. Blows IOS out of the water and it's free! How do they do that, not charge I mean?

    SadSurfer - Apologises for taking so long to get back to you.

    The game is free as it is supported by advertising (on the website and also streaming ads onto the billboards in the stadium). There is also an item mall planned at a later date, but, the game will always be free.

    As soon as I saw this post, I went over the site...signed up and downloaded. Tutorial was quick and easy, everything was pretty simple to follow. Decided to jump into a game...not many going on, 5 from what I remember this morning. I entered one and I could barely move, my ping rate for the game was over 200. I have a pretty decent computer. Run many MMO's without a bit of lag or anything; yet on this game...which has very low graphic qualities I was lagging all over.



    Has anyone else that has played this experienced this problem? I'm not sure if this is something that can come from their end but it was a bit frustrating trying to move and the player would react 5 seconds later. I definitely want to be able to play this game but wont unless I can figure out the latency issue.

    Had a quick look at the stats and the reason for the lag is because you joined a game where the host was a looooong way away. Red games in the list are high ping. Perhaps try a green game next time?



    Best times are 7pm GMT on to find gamers in your area at the moment but the numbers are increasing all the time.



    Hope this helps.

    Actually I started to wonder if that was case, I saw some games there were in red and some in green. I then saw a guide for connections with color but thought it was only for players and not room. But now that you say that makes me feel better. Started to think I would need to tear my computer to pieces to find the problem.



    I will try again this evening and hopefully get into a game. Thanks for quick response Vortal. Look forward to playing some matches tonite.

    I am not a big fan of Soccer but i think a MMO sports game is fricken amazing. I will definately be DLing it tonite and playing. hopefully there is a rule book for us noobs to soccer.
