Was invited to closed beta but after FIVE months no news...and now the closed beta is over.

I must say, this is really disappointing. I've been looking forward to this game for a long time, and after winning a contest on www.mmorpg.com (which is pretty lucky) I thought my dream came true.

"Greetings derf26!

We are very pleased to inform you that you have been issued a winning ticket to our 2Moons Beta Giveaway contest! We have issued 200 winning codes and ONLY 200 PERSONS CAN WIN! This ticket will only be valid for 24 hours. So claim your prize ASAP!

In order to claim your prize you MUST claim your prize using the ticket below within 24 hours:"

It started with this message from mmorpg.com on the 2nd December 2006.

On the 8th of December, I got the following mail:

"Hello!

Congratulations on winning a 2Moons Closed Beta account from MMORPG.COM!  Although you’ve won first pass access into 2Moons, the build for the Closed Beta version is not ready yet and is still being finalized.  However, we guarantee that you will get immediate entry once CB begins.

As a rough estimate, we now expect CB testing to begin sometime around January (early 2007).  In the meantime, please make sure you have registered for a free Acclaim account at http://2moons.acclaim.com and signed up for the 2Moons beta test.  We’ll send you another email with an activation page link and instructions once the CB version is ready for action.  Thank you for your patience and we look forward to seeing you in 2Moons!

Acclaim"

After that, and waiting for about a month, I posted a thread here after sending them a mail:

http://phpbb.acclaim.com/2moons/viewtopic.php?t=2883&highlight=

Which had a lot of people suggest I send them a mail, which I had already done. I thought the problem would be that my username here and the one at mmorpg.com is different (registered here way before i knew of the closed beta giveaway), so I made sure to stress the fact. I sent four over the course of over a month due to no answers. Here's what I sent them on January 27th:

"Hey there, I won a beta account in www.mmorpg.com over a month ago now under the name "derf26". Later i got a mail from you guys saying this:

Dear 2Moons Player,

Congratulations on winning the MMORPG contest to participate in the Acclaim

2Moons closed beta process. To have your account activated, please reply to

this email with your registered 2Moons username.

If you still need to register, please visit http://2moons.acclaim.com and

register online. Your username must be registered for 2Moons for it to be

activated.

Thanks,

Acclaim Staff

After answering twice within the last two weeks to the mail where it came from i got no response, maybe the confusion is that I use Exelsior as my 2moons forum account name and derf26 as me mmorpg.com account name. In any case it would be very nice if you guys could activate my account, it keeps saying 'pending' when i try to download the game on your website.

Regards, "

I got a reply on the 27th February

"Hi Fred,

Thank you for contacting Acclaim Games.

I understand from your mail that you are unable to login to the 2 moons game, as your account status is inactive.

We appreciate your eagerness to play the game and would be glad to assist. We also apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced due to the delay.

Thank you for sending us the “Invitation mail”. However, we want your "User-Id" to be sent to us so that we can forward this to our concerned technical department to look into this issue. Once we hear from them, we shall keep you updated. We thank you for your patience and cooperation during this period.

If you have multiple accounts and if you have registered on any of these accounts, it might get activated based on the email-id whatever you have specified in acclaim during registration. Please make sure you check the status of the account for all these accounts registered.

NOTE:  If you have received the Invitation from your friend, that doesn't work as you need to receive the Official Invitation from Acclaim Games ONLY.

We hope you enjoy our games, please let us know if there is anything we can do to improve your gaming experience.

If you have any other issues or concerns, email us at 2msupport@acclaim.com and we will be glad to assist you further. For more info about our games, please log onto the website http://acclaim.com.

Sincerely,

Leo

2Moons Support,

Acclaim Games"

I answered them on the same day, re-iterating that my username on here was Exelsior, while that on mmorpg.com was derf26 in a short mail.

3 days later, on March the 2nd, I got the following mail. After which it was evident that they were adressing the issue.

"Hi Fred,

Thank you for contacting Acclaim Games.

I understand that you are receiving the message “Status Pending” while trying to login or download the game client. Also, thank you for sending your “User-Id”.

Due to huge mail volume, we were unable to reply to your E-mail in time.  We apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused to you.

We appreciate your eagerness to play the game and would be glad to have you in our 2Moons Community.

Fred, we have forwarded this issue to our concerned department. However, the issue will be fixed at the earliest. Once we hear from the concerned department, we shall inform you about the status. We appreciate your cooperation and patience during this period.

NOTE:  Right now the Closed-Beta version is running on testing. Only those users who have received the official invitation from Acclaim are able to play and test the game. It is sent on random basis directly from our Server and the invitation for the closed-beta version has been stopped. Very shortly the Open-Beta will be released, most likely before April 2007.

IF YOU HAVE RECEIVED THE INVITATION FROM YOUR FRIEND, THAT DOESN’T WORK AS YOU NEED TO RECEIVE THE INVITATION FROM ACCLAIM ONLY.

We hope you enjoy our games, please let us know if there is anything we can do to improve your gaming experience.

If you have any other issues or concerns, email us at 2msupport@acclaim.com and we will be glad to assist you further. Also, keep checking the latest updates posted in forum at http://2moons.acclaim.com.

For more info about our games, please log onto the website http://acclaim.com.

Sincerely,

After that I thought i'd just wait. Periodically trying to log on to download the game to no avail, always receing the "Status Pending" error message.

Recently I was away for a couple of weeks, and when I came back, I thought i'd check again. I don't know when the closed beta was over, I don't really care anymore either, but in any case, my account is still on pending status.

I just don't understand what happened. The issue was clearly noted by Acclaim staff, they said they informed the "relevant department" and tried to get it sorted ASAP. In any case, they lost a beta tester and player not just for 2Moons, but for any games they'll be releasing. After viewing the amount of status pending problems other people had I'm starting to think this was all a hoax of some sort.

However, if some moderator or staff member actually answers this with something informative and doesn't just lock this, and perhaps explains what happened, I might still play the game I've been waiting for for quite a while. Though likely you will think that one player is insignificant, especially given that the game is F2P.

P.S. The last part was there because I originally posted this on the Acclaim forums a few minutes ago, ignore that.

Here's the link

I posted here too because I feel that more people need to know about this, especially since this is where the contest was run, and also because I think the thread there will be quickly locked or deleted.

I was one of the 200 winners as well but I couldnt get my account activated. I tried repeatedly for about a week but still nothing. So I just gave up. I wanted to play Beta bad not bad enough to go through what you went through. Though I do admire your vigilence.

    So it's not just me.

Tbh, after a while (about 1.5 months) it was more to do with seeing if it was actually possible to get the beta activated or not, and not about playing. Guess the answer was no :/

The worst thing is that half the guys over at the 2Moons forums didn't even bother reading my post and just assumed I was talking about getting into open beta, and posted stupid responses

Lol well I guess half of the attraction for me was the fact that the game was F2P. I still can't quite find a game worth paying $15 for on a monthly basis. Maybe AOC when it comes out. Fingers crossed for that closed beta

I thought it would be cool, but what Dave Perry talked about and what was finally delivered were two different things. When every NPC cussing like a sailor and some red paint splotches dropping represents a "mature" game, you know something's screwy.  And yep, waiting for AoC myself. Hoping like heck to get in beta, if possible.
