If 700,000 people preordered it then there would be 700,000 people playing it right now.

But there  is only 200,000 at most playing now.  And that includes the  people who are playing the open beta and didn't preorder

So there is only 150,000 or so preorder people playing.

So either you are lying about the preorder numbers, or 80% of the people who preordered hate the game so much that they don't play anymore.

Sure you are not talking about their automated invitation counter on the world tour site?

That was not a rumor but maybe some misunderstood info.

It came from an article over from IGN boards where Loktofeit interviewed some Turbines.

Let me see if i can find it.

You know, that's absolutley right, you know, because the folks who bought pre-order and can level their characters all the way to 15 are of course goint to be playing nonstop every day until retail launch ... of course ....

The article has no official numbers. It says:

"As far as these guys are concerned, Friday, Open Beta, is launch day… and they are psyched about where this game is headed. With a possible 600k heading into Open Beta, and 1 Million beta keys expected to be added over the course of OB, this team is looking at one of the largest playerbases that an NA-based MMOG has ever seen."

17 servers thus far-- 11 US and 6 EU.   That's quite telling right there.

LOL! This makes the squabbles on this board look like insane babbling.

    Gratz Turbine & Codemasters!

    I hope it holds out.

What have you expected, its lord of the Rings, it will rule supreme over the infidel spoiled MMORPG core thats infesting internet boards...

You ARE underestimating the license, this is not Warcraft or Warhammer or Matrix or any other franchise of a semi or niche-successful fantasy-universe. This is Lord of the Rings, THE Lord of the Rings, you know, biggest movie success in all movie history, top 5 bestselling books ever written, INCLUDING the bible...

...dude, this license is SO strong, you can never ever over-estimate it. Every single person I know, from my gran to my lil cousin, knows Lord of the Rings and has seen the movies. No exception, whole family saw it in 2002...

I could go on for days, but you can keep trolling about how bad the game is, nobody will eventually care, its more than good enough for anybody whos not a spoiled MMORPG kid and loves Lord of the Rings ^^

Sorry for the rant, just wanted to point that out...

    Meridion

EDIT: oh, i forgot to mention that you can pre-order the standard version and start on the official release date. Thats a "non beta"-pre-order and I bet many folks want to start off with the "real" game, not the open beta...

Reminds me of Blizzard and WoW.

Why do you think Blizzard struck gold with WoW?

    Because it's a great game?

    Because it's innovative?

No simply because Blizzard had build up a very large customerbase by making 3 Warcraftgames where people knew the lore and history and loved it.

They then built an online game with old used Ideas from 6 old MMORPG's and called it WoW and at the same time they dumbed down the playstyle so everyone and their 10 year old could play it.Not saying a 10 year old could finish the raids, but they sure can play the PvE game.

The only original thing is their graphics.

Blizzard had a strong reputation and they wheeled in customers from that.

Lord of the rings has a huge name all over the world and Turbine will off course wheel in customers from that too.

it's only natural plus it also helps Turbine that Tolkiens son is releasing a new book this month too.

    Perfect timing by Turbine.

People from WoW are starting to get boored of TBC and there is a gap between LOTRO and new interesting titles.

I can see this game stealing a lot of the mature playerbase from WoW that is tired of endless raids.

LOTRO is a casual players wet dream and that's why so many mature players will head towards it in my opinion.

A lot have families and a life besides gaming so they can't spend so much time as a game like WoW requires.

This is where LOTRO comes to their rescue.

Here is a game where they can actually accomplish something even if they can't play a lot each day.

That's why i'm going into middle earth.

Not because it's the best and coolest mmorpg on the market, but because it's so casual friendly and yet it still has potential for some hardcore raiding later on if i have time for that sometimes.

Bla bla bla. LOTRO is a pure copy of WoW. They will never reach the WoW success , even if they will try sooooo hard. I went into the game , and it has NOTHING good then Archlord . Beside this , Archlord skills and many more are wayyyy to good then LOTRO. People's like you , fun's of LOTR movie , etc .. will play the game for .. let's say .. 1-2 months till they get into "WTF IS THIS" and then press ALT+F4.

LOTRO it just doesn't deserve to be downloaded.

ANd my big question is , what company of MMO's  who is respected in the world of this type of games put such a insaine offer with $199 life time?! What if 90% of players will buy this "life time card" then what? Oh I see , they will do it like in Archlord , the greatest thing which is...C H A N T R A   S H O P ...

If 90% of the people took that fee, then they would no longer make money off of them afte 13 or so months which in turn would hurt the longevity of the game. I do not think this problem will come up though, many people seem to not be all that interested in paying that much for a game up front yet.

  • IceAgeIceAge Member EpicPosts: 3,200

There will be guys who will buy this life time card and of course , does who will pay monthly but in few-several months , some of the guys who pays monthly will stop playing it , some of the "lifetime" will also stop playing it coz they're saying like  "WTF , I HAVE A LIFETIME CARD, SO I CAN PLAY IT WHENEVER I WANT" and so one. The ones who will still going to play will be those who like LOTR the movie. There are alot of nice games ( from the preview ) coming out soon , so why playing LOTRO

I suppose having fun wouldn't be a good enough reason for you, huh? Why play any game? Because you want a hobby and it is fun.
