I was going to buy the lifetime membership until recent events made me unable to be sure of whether I can afford it or not.
My friend has told me that you can purchase it after release. Can anyone tell me if this is true? If so then I will proberly consider it sometime after release, around the time the game gets updated with a new area.

No you can't get the lifetime offer after release UNLESS you have preordered the founder's pack.
It's a one time offer.
Those who preordered the game has a month after release to decide if they want to buy a lifetime accounts, cheaper monthly fee with their founders code.
After that month is gone,so are the lifetimeoffer or cheaper months.
I bought a European collectors edition and that have a lifetime account included.
Yeah I think this game has great potential to become something more than just another fantasy mmo. Like another poster said, if anything it will be like a bedside book, and not having to worry about a monthly fee is a good thing.
Cheers.

I will probably buy the lifetime, since once I start a game, I tend to stick with it long term even if I don't play a lot. Since I can afford it, it's easier for me to go this way and then never have to worry about whether my credit card needs to be updated, etc.
"Touch the M&Ms on my desk and you're fired from the design team." "No really! You're fired!" "Oh, you brought a refill. You're promoted."
No, the 9.99/month deal is good enough for me. I've never played an MMORPG more than 1.5 years straight.... and I'd need to have a 20 month run to make it worthwhile....
and with other games on the horizon like WAR, AOC, TR, STO, GE and a host of others, I'm sure I'm going to want to bounce around a bit.
(especially WAR.... DAOC was my longest game..and i went back to it 3 or 4 times ..... not true for any other )
But, if someone knew they were going to enjoy this game forever, 199.00 is the way to go...

No way. I will probably not play the game for very long, AoC and WAR seems much more promising. Anyways, a lifetime won't be worth it, not a chance I'll play it for more than 1year and 8 months, or whatever it is.
This is £99 here in the UK plus the cost of game, around £30. How come i can buy Guild Wars for £30 and get free lifetime membership? Think about it. It's a rip off to guarantee the money long after people ditch the game after only a couple of months. You pay £99, but will you play for 10 months? I bet most people wont. If GW can do it for free, why can't Turbine?
Comparisons with GW are a bit silly in my opinion, since GW is not really an MMO. It is multiplayer, but the action is all instanced on your machine - not their servers.
Well, AC2 lasted longer than a year, and I'm sure that this will be around longer than.
I still wouldn't ever get a lifetime sub to any game, though.
I am curious, though, if the lifetime sub changes the usual legalese that says the servers could have the plug pulled at any time, with no refund. I.E. are you guaranteed they'll keep the servers up for at least a year, no matter what, or something to that effect?

If GW can then they either have a different business model (which they do - you tell me what it is- I ain't doing the work for you) or will pull the plug. It's happened before.
Subscription wise and not including expansions:
I've paid £239 for EQ1 (2 years or so)
Station Access for EQ2 and SWG £510 (2years or so)
Eve Online £46 (6months or so)
All the above have taken into account the exchange rate between $ & £ at the time roughly.
Yeah. £99 for lifetime seems like a good deal. I won't absolutely guarantee that until I've played it but several of my friends have and are going for it, I'm adopting a wait and see but with a positive attitude. From what I've seen and heard it sounds good to me.

Did you notice you are almost the only person flaming this game ? Most of the other negative posters have come with some what objective statements , but you are the only person that is full on flaming the game. Kind of says something about the over title when only one person is flaming.
There are people that say WoW this and that , but that is a given to any mmo to be released now. Here you are, trying to fuel what little fire you have going with absolute none sense. This is not Vanguard revisited, this is Lord of the Rings Online , the largest IP on the planet earth, so you can try 2 things.
1. Play the game , level every race to 15 and try different classes, explore the world , go as far as you can go as well as ranking a monster character.
or
2. Go talk in a forum about a game you have a clue about.

You are a fascinatingly dense creature. Did you even read a single word of my post, which you quoted I might add, before trying to whip up this halfassed flame??
You people keep bringing up Vanguard? Are you perhaps confused as to just what game we're talking about? This is Lord of the Rings Online. You said it yourself.
I've been playing since beta 2, thanks. If you want, I'll make you a pretty little video of me playing the game.

Not sure if it got enough to be a full time game, but for on and off play I cant see a downside to getting the lifetime deal.. its really tempting...

With an already decent world size and the eventual expansions this game should have a good long run...
I have a thing about paying for anything that goes beyond a period of time which I can percieve.
One month is almost too much for a MMO to be honest.
Wish I was in asia and paid by daily basis..............
Played so far: 9Dragons, AO, AC, AC2, CoX, DAoC, DF, DnL, DR, DDO, Ent, EvE, EQ, EQ2, FoMK, FFO, Fury, GW, HG:L, HZ, L1, L2, M59, MU, NC1, NC2, PS, PT, R:O, RF:O, RYL, Ryzom, SL, SB, SW:G, TR, TCoS, MX:O, UO, VG, WAR, WoW...
It all sucked.
Having beta tested for a while now, I know the game is easily worth the lifetime sub for me.
