I've made a similar post in another thread in this same forum under "Is Ryzom Fun" so I won't try to spam.
I enjoy playing SoR. I had to take a 2 week layoff to fix my computer, but when I got back onto SoR this weekend I had found a lot of the game play issues, bugs and server issues fixed. Now, having said that, SoR still has a long way to go in my opinion before it is a finished product. I don't think that Nevrax and gang can get all that is needed to be done in time for the projected June 2004 release date. I could be wrong, but there is a lot of work still to be done.
It's ok if you don't like SoR because I do as well as others and thats what counts. Just don't flame the game. Find something else you like and move on.

They seem to be working very hard on updating and fixing bugs. So when this thread started, it had a lot of problems. My client has only crashed once since I started playing, and the server's only gone down during 2 time periods (both peak times, which makes sense -- stress tests and all)
If the game has progressed as much as it seems like it has (from your posts) over the last month, I wouldn't be surprised if everything is fixed by the end of June. I mean, half the complaints you see on the ryzom forums are "not all the mobs are named correctly" ... they have full-time content people who can spend a couple hours one day going through the "bug reports" that list mobs without correct names, and fix them all. That's not a big issue. The graphics are almost all great, the GUI is being fixed up. (Every other day it has an update, with some nice changes to the GUI/chat/etc system)
I don't know what's going on from the dev standpoint, but from what I can see at this point, the game is progressing very well towards being releasable. If you were excited about Ryzom and tried the beta test at the start of the open beta, I suggest trying again, 'cause it really doesn't fit the descriptions (any of them) that I've heard from people before 5/10 or so.
The graphics are nowhere near the standards of what the nexgen of MMORPG's will provide... This game will be released with or just slightly before games like EQ2 and WoW both of who's graphical acheivements makes this SoR look like a bad Spiderman cartoon from eons ago.
I'm embarrased for the company. You just don't release an OB with this many problems and glitches. It makes your game and you company look bad... You get some hardcore players that want to test the game out, and they understand a few issues but not constant problems. Test the game in alpha and CB before subjecting us to this, for lack of a better word, CRAP. I have better things to waste my time on. Like other games that are actually fairly solid but need some stress tests or hidden bugs worked out.
This game will be ok for those that can't play the new up and coming hardcore MMORPG like WoW or EQ2. SoR once released will likley run on lower end systems as the detail of the world and models is pretty low in comparison to what's coming. However I see this game burning out very quickly with the competiton of what's en route...

Are we on about the same game here?, to me the graphics are much better than Lineage 2 graphics (yes lineage 2 uses Unreal Tournament Engine) because to me Lineage 2 graphics are just... bland and boring/traditional. Go into ryzom and tell me other mmorpgs look anything like it?, look at the races, the enemies, the skill system.... everything is different from ure traditional rpg. EQ...EQ2...Lineage...Lineage2....World Of Warcraft.... they all run on the same type of game it all looks to cookie cutter to me.
I must say the graphics in SoR are very nice and when i compare the characters to EQ2 characters EQ2 looks too real, too undefined and bland again, whereas ryzom uses vibrant dark and light colours to really immerse the user.

Your calling the graphics in EQ2 way ahead of SoR's. Granted. I'm not say EQ2 looks bad compared to SoR or other new mmorpgs, but the characters in EQ2 look plastic to me. SoR's graphics are on par with EQ2's as well as some other of the new mmorpgs coming out. Though GW's graphics look very good, even in alpha.
As far as whether or not SoR should have been further along when before it went open beta, yes. It could've been further along, but beta is still beta. Both alpha and beta versions of games are for testing. They are not try before you buy demos. Nevrax and the devs have done a bangup job of fixing problems and updating the game. Come May 24th, SoR will have been in open beta for a month, and it is vastly improved from April 24th.
I was concerned that Nevrax might have to push the June release date back till the fall, but at the rate bugs are being fixed , they just might hit their target release date. Right now they've fixed the servers to handle 5,000 clients each with 6 servers currently on line. 2 for North America clients and 4 for European clients. At the worst, they might have to push the game back till July. You can check out the updates here at this link:

Ah, ya. Light years ahead...

SoR's graphics are nowhere near EQ2 never mind some of the even newer MMRPGS (Guildwars ect). As far as whether or not SoR should have been further along when before it went open beta, yes. If it's improved it's gone from terrible to just really really bad. Don't release a game for people to test that is bearly playable... If they have been in OB for a month and still have this many problems they are doomed. No big deal though... they are not going to be in the top 10. Like common... when you loot something it takes forever to load... You can check out the updates here at this link: Let's hope they don't release in June because the only way they will is with bugs and an unfinished game. I know I'm sick of paying to beta test games for companies, I'm just there are a lot of people in agreement. http://atys.ryzom.com/?page=update_latest Those big battles using the RAID engine are fun. If you haven't experienced yet, you should. Looking forward to playing SoR in its final version. If either share the same insight as having to load loot and their magic system then I'll pass TY. The one point I do agree with you on Ziggen is I'm not going to pay for SoR if it still a beta like game when its released. I'll play it for free and continue testing it, helping Nevrax fix problems, but I won't pay to do that.
They could pay me though. That would be nice, but it's not going to happen. I do believe tha Nevrax can get all the problems addressed and fixed so SoR is playable for anyone that wants to play.
