I think World of Warcraft or Everquest 2 will probably be one the ones to get more players into it. It seems that a lot of people are waiting for these two, where as guild wars and city of heroes are just a temporary MMORPG. I havent played guild wars or city of heroes, but I just get the feeling from reading the forums and talking to people that theyre sorta split between everquest 2 and WOW and the other 2 arent really considered as highly.
I dont know why this is, but for some reason i have the same view. Maybe its just all the hype has been building. I myself am split like 50 50 between EQ2 and wow.
Though Everquest 2 will surely be a great game, my heart belongs to Wow.. The way how Blizzard creted the quest system and how they respond to beta-testers created the best MMORPG i have ever played. I am playing beta for three weeks and i really love the game..
I voted for everquest 2 to rule, it is a game which i myself may even get around to playing someday.
I think CoH will have a good chance, because lots and lots of people are flocking to it while waiting for WoW or EQ2. I think in its current state CoH will last just long enough, but if they bring out some expansions in time then they may just be able to hook enough people to keep them away from EQ2 or WoW. Even though both games have many dedicated fans already who will doubtlessly buy the game regardless of how good it is.
It's either EQ2 or WoW. EQ2 most definately has much more content, and surely has much more effort put into it than WoW. But SOE did the same with SWG, and look what happened there(hope there wont be any jedies in EQ2 :P ).
it is definatley going to be eq2 without a doubt although wow will be really good, hopefully, but wow will be picked up by a lot of people just not as many as eq 2 because it's sick how many people play eq and have spent playing it.
I'm not sure what will it be. Either Everquest 2 or World of Warcraft. EQ2 will be love by mmorpg veterans. I believe WoW will introduce mmorpg ganre to new audience. City of Heroes is only temporary until EQ2 and WoW. As much as I don't like Lineage2, I think it will have the most subcribers. L2 have a huge amount of royal fans in Korea and less access to good mmorpg, and did I mention that they are very royal to Lineage. lol
From the general surrounding, more peoples will buy WoW in the first month then all the others MMORPGs listed on this site combined in a year.
Will they remain in the game more then 1 month or 2 is another matter completely althought!
The Blizzard train is on the way, and like it or not, it is MASSIVE! Is Blizzard ready to handle such a TRAIN of players after Beta? I mean, nobody ever handle that many players ever! If you think that anything you have seen was insane in the past, you just have no idea at how massive this is gonna be! At start WoW should have way more then 1 million players online at once in the first month...EQ was happy to gloat having 100k online at peak moments...EQ, Ultima, DAoC and all the others fight hard to put a game style on the market, Blizzard is directly drawing from both those pools of players and their fans...

If your going to make a poll like this include more then just the bigger games.... wheres dragon empires? ryzom? dnl? just to mention a few... ryzom is adding alot of creature realism.... and alot of other stuff.
i think its going to be really close call. WoW will get tons of people who never played a mmorpg before, and alot of them dont know there are better games like it out there and think its the coolest thing ever to play with tons of other people, and be hooked.(like i did with my first mmorpg) EQ2..well, they will get tons of peole for obvious reason of being EQ, and most of the people that start this game, know before even trying it they are in for the long haul.
I can try to say why each will be good or bad, but since i havn't played either yet its impossible. its like trying to judge today how kerry did during his 2005-2008 term as president
For people that equate WoW with blizzard should look at the designers list in Guildwars. Compare WoW's designers with those involved in past blizzard products, and then Guildwars. You'll see that Guildwars is more a blizzard game than WoW is.

I believe that WoW will rule the market place at least for the first couple months after release, after that we shall see. If Kerry does by some ungodly act of feeling sorry for him get president, the whole world will die anyway so we wont have to worry about the games.
Who do I think? At this point, Everquest2, it truly has the back-up with its predecessor, Everquest, and of course the fact that SoE is making it. As well as some of its great features that plan to be implemented. HOWEVER, I'm not going to count Guild Wars out of it. I mean it is starting to pick up some hype, with over 200,000 accounts registered for their E3 demo, people are starting to recognize it. And since Guild Wars is still in development (EQII is too, but it is ready to go closed beta soon, we don't know anything about GW yet), it still can attract more attention. It's going to be a close race, we will see what happens. But in my opinion, WoW will be the SWG of 2004.

CoH will end up being the most fun of the four, but it will also have the fewest long term players.
WoW and EQ2 will duke it out for the awards. But unlike what most people think, EQ2 will be a more casual player friendly game, while WoW will be highly populated by the uber guilds of EQ (you know, the ones who chew up content, spit it out, and then demand more).
But I will put my plug in for Guild Wars having the most subscribers. Don't think I am a Guild Wars fanatic either, of the three, it is the least likely one I would buy. I base this completely on the "50 cents a day is too much for an online game" whiners that pop up every time a new game is released. So for all those gamers who want something that is kinda an MMORPG with some respectable graphice, then Guild Wars will be the game of choice. Which is the exact reason it will be the least likely of the four games listed (and others that aren't listed) to be installed on my computer.
Yeah where is Middle Earth, Warhammer, Vanguard....
Plus you didn't tell us rule by what date? By Christmas by 2005, 2006 2007 all time? what???? You dont' give us an option of none of the above either...Sounds like you just listed what you like.
I think all listed aren't even going to RULE. BTW, what do you mean by rule?
Most subscriptions? most purchased? most played? Everyone knows these days everyone tries most before they get serious in one...Anyone smart enough to try out them before investing months or years into a MMO. We've all learned that lesson ever since EQ, AC and DAoC were up and running..Anyone can go gold, but I think I would be questioning who will hold the players interest the longest should be the question.. However if you are going to do it list a braod range of games. Some of us are not going to play any that yo listed and wait it out for the one we want. I know a handful that aren't going to play any and just play NwN till Turbine releases D&D online in late 2005-2006.
I voted for WoW because its most likly going to have better gameplay over EverWack. I trust blizzard in developing the best. Its going to be their 15th title since Warcraft. Not counting novels and board games.
Originally posted by Tyrgris Yeah where is Middle Earth, Warhammer, Vanguard....
Yeah what about Middle Earth? I bet theres a higher percentages of people waiting for Middle Earth then EverWack. Yo for me I wouldn't spent years on a game like WoW maybe Middle Earth but I prefer a game like .Hack The World. Yeah it might get me dumbt more then once because of how girls are... but its worth it.

WoW will win in total subs i think.
1)perfect choice of anti EQers
2)has millions and millions of fans from the warcraft series.
3)has a much lower system specs
So i think it will have more people playing but i think EQ2 will be a better game.

ill try EQ2 and guild wars as it will be free and i can switch between the 2, until Vanguard comes out.
