Free Trials Requiring Credit Cards

Well, as I sit back here and check out the free trials available I have to say I am pretty dissapointed that a majority of the trials require you to actually subscribe with a card just to play the free trial.  I think this is garbage.  The whole reason I want to try the free trial is see what the game is like, if it lives up to my expectations, and if it is worth subscribing too.   With as many billing problems in the mmo accounting domain, it seems this is the companies ploy to suck you in wheather you like the game or not just to get your cash.  So what do you all think?   Do you like using your credit cards for trials?  And don't say they don't want you to take advantage and keep playing the trial, because the majority of the trials I play limit the capabilites of playing unlike playing customers.

yes, I like CC only trials. It helps keep away farmers who just make trial accounts, and makes sure that people who try games are actually people who can pay for them and not freeloaders.

It is a ploy. There is no question about it.  EVE 14 day trial requires a credit card. After years of playing MANY different  MMOs, I have had only a couple problems. This one being as I was pretty certain I had canceled my account and did not select any type of payment plan.  Over a half year later, I found a whole list of monthly fees stacked onto the bill.

Luckily, I was able to get out of them, but I can easily see how this could get out of hand.

The other billing problem I had was with the Matrix Online, there was absolutely NO way to cancel your account through any logical online method.  A technical support/billing number was hidden among the forums and after calling I couldn't believe how much of a hard time they gave me to try to stop paying for my account.

I don't think this is a resolve for farmers.  Free Trial, Credit Cards, or whatever they will make there slimy accounts and farm the fool out of games regardless.  In order to keep them away the public needs to quit buying it.  A majority of the free trial games won't even let you out of the noobie areas, they would just buy accounts either way to farm.

Haha i happen to hate free trials that need credit cards because guess why. I'm 13! And i don't think anybody who isn't filthy rich has a credit card at the age of 13. It makes it extremely hard for me to try games because for me, it's strictly reading the reviews unless the trial doesn't need a credit card. So i have to usually base my opinion based on what other people say, which isn't the best thing to do. So yeah, i don't like those kinds of trials

There are other ways of preventing gold farmers. Disable all methods of chat, mail and trading for trial accounts. There, gold farmers gone and you'll still be able to see the game. I've been in a "CC required" trial once, and it took me 3 tries before I finally decided to sign up. Each time I backed down when it asked me to enter it because it felt fishy, but I didn't get in trouble with it afterwards, was never billed.

I remember wanting to try Neocron 2, it requireda CC. For some reason the CC wouldn't be accepted and I could never try it.

If a free trial asks me for a credit card I just close it down and forget about it.
