Had I been enthused by DAoC's PvE content I might have seen more of DAoC's pvp content which I thought from what I saw looked quite cool. That aside, mmorpgs don't do it for me for pvp but I'll say I enjoyed WoW's pvp.
Seriously how can someone put Eq1/Eq2 or WoW into a top 5 pvp list? Really, do you guys know what pvp is? I suspect you are playing those games and just cant stand it if people call them carebear games?
1. Eve by far

I enjoyed the battlegrounds in WoW, that is enough for me to include it in my list. It was pvp activity akin to a fps. You may not have enjoyed it, doesn't mean others don't.

Battlegrounds: I tried to play them a long time ago when I had a WoW sub. It seems I was the only one who wanted to play (was a horde warlock). The other horde players where grinding away somewhere and the alliance were saying that shaman are imbalanced so they would not play in the BGs. Maybe every 4 to 5 hours a game was started. Wow is not a pvp game. Wows pvp is like a little additional game to gain even more items. Make player looting possible in the BGs and maybe then I will say that it is pvp. Just because you can play some tic tac toe online doesnt make it pvp.

Though all MMO PvP = button mashing in sequence and playing the rock/paper/scissors game until someone wins.

* I haven't played these 2 games in a very long time so I have no idea what they are like now a days.
Didn't really like to many more. Ryzom is pretty good but I haven't done an "outpost" fight yet so I can't really say for sure. It looks promising though.
I'll tell you games I didn't like the PvP in
SWG...what a joke
Vanguard (this game was just a total waste of time on every level)
RFO
EQII
AC
None of them are really as good as many shooters or combat sims like Steel Beast Pro.

Its interesting how people see PvP as one vs one, or it has to have some sort of impact on the world aka Shadowbane/DAoC. Team Pvp which has no impact on the world seems to be snubbed. Like the arenas in WoW that is also 'pvp' but it is snubbed as it is not along the traditional lines of pvp of the past. Yeah I see the old pvpers point and I will agree that in terms of 1 vs 1 or having any sort of impact on the world(world pvp) it is crap in WoW but by my personal definition I won't exclude WoW just because it opts for team pvp with its battlegrounds and arenas.

Maybe because FFA PVP doesn't automatically make it a good PVP game?
EVE is not a good PVP game imo, because it allows a player to play for a long time and automatically be better then a person starting out. No matter how skilled they are at the game.
Ultima Online is a shadow of it's former self. And when they were talking about PVP game I would want to talk about a game I could get right now and play.
I always thought personally that Shadowbane wasn't a very good game.
I agree that GW is a good PVP game. You can either do the PVE and make a strong character or you can purchase a PVP pack and have a PVP character to compete with. World of Warcraft in a way is similar to this. Since you can be competitive at any level by going into your appropriate bracket.
So once again. FFA PVP doesn't automatically make it a good PVP game. There are many other things that go into a PVP game, other then ganking "n00bs".
Currently playing: LOTRO & WoW (not much WoW though because Mines of Moria rocks!!!!)
Looking Foward too: Bioware games (Dragon Age & Star Wars The Old Republic)
Best PvP game = BF 2142 MMORPG = EVE Though all MMO PvP = button mashing in sequence and playing the rock/paper/scissors game until someone wins.
Asheron's Call was like this. It had twitch based combat. You could dodge spells and projectiles. You could jump out of the way from an attack. You could choose to hit someone really fast and whether you were hitting high, mid, or low section, or you could hit really slow and powerful, but more likely to get dodged.

Do you really believe this to be true? Eve, if anything, is the polar opposite of this. veterans are only more versitile using a larger array of ships/weapons etc. theyre not better skilled. skills cap
