Allthough I am not sure it is a bug but more of a feature I find the resonse times is horrid as well, I just keep hitting them buttons and nothing happens.
There is no good way of knowing when any attack and/or skill will kick in, and when the next one will be available.
But, it takes some time and you get used to it.

As has been pointed outn previous threads the attack system ques up 1 attack ahead. If you just blindly mash buttons you are right it seems horrible, people used to WoW system for example will find it feels mushy. However if you use it as designed and it is like playing music and is probably the most fluid and graceful attack system of any MMO. It also incorporates specials and positional damage bonus. Imagine that, a combat system in a MMO that actually requires a bit of thinking and a plan. What a concept! If you just want to mash buttons without thought or let auto attack do the work for you then this would indeed be a game breaker for you.
The move / action queue system isnt why it feels sluggish. DAoC has a 'queue' system where you can stack a reactionary (i.e. if you parry then this move works, or if target blocks then so and so move), with an anytime style or the next style in a chain. You can also queue up spells to fire one after the other.
Even with this in place the combat feels crisp, and very responsive.
This is really the only thing that has kept me from getting sucked into the game as much as I'd like. Read a dev post that they were going to try and tweak things so the combat has a better feel to it, but it just never came around before open beta hit. I think that was a big mistake on their part, not a fatal stumble by any means though.
Still on the edge about wether I'll join the ranks of human warriors in Middle Earth online or not.
I've been playing open beta for a few weeks. I can see what people are talking about with the delay. In WoW most moves were instant. Here they seem to kind of flow into the current auto attack animation, which takes a second. I kind of like it because it's not as frantic as past games I've played.
I'm having trouble deciding if I should pick up the game though. For me the character creation was lacking. Most of the changes were very subtle and I just could not create a character that I really could be proud of. I have to zoom in closely to tell the differences between my character's face and those of other people. The heads seem a little oddly shaped to me too, too tall and thin I think, but that could just be the art style. If I can't really make a character I like then I have a lot of trouble getting into the rest of the game.
I would really have liked for there to be more classes and races, but honestly I can't really think of anything else they could have added. It made me laugh the first time I saw "Man (Male)" and "Man (Female)" on the character creation though. It's the first time I've seen genders count as a whole new race hehe. I guess without that the list would have been a bit short.
I have yet to experience a bug in game though, and the game world is really pretty. I think the MMORPG market desperately needs more games that release as solid as LOTRO.
So, while the character maker was almost a game breaker for me, I still might end up picking it up. If anyone is on Landroval and happens to know of a Heavy RP guild that wouldn't mind showing me the ropes of RP in LOTRO, or let me hang out with them for a bit that would probably be the thing I need to tip me towards buying it. A good community is always a big plus. Yes, I'm that social. I will buy a game just because of a good RP community Right now I'm a level 8 Minstral named Edwyn.
I got disconnected one night and when I logged in the next day, my level 12 hunter was back down to level 10 ?!! I lost two levels due to something happening with their server. To me, that's a game-stopper bug don't you think?
EDIT: ack! wrong forum. thought I was in the Vanguard forum... nvm.
Not really a game stopper but annoys the hell out of me. People who can't come up with original names. Come on dumbasses you can't come up with anything better than Aaarragorn, Leggylolas, Bororomir. wtf. But I see this in all MMO's a bunch of unoriginal bastards.
In America I have bad teeth. If I lived in England my teeth would be perfect.

Hmm,This is system is acutally used in DAOC..Positional styles.etc
MMORPG's Under my belt:UO,EQ1,EQ2,SWG,L2,COH,COV,WoW,AC2,Shadowbane,DAOC,FFXI,GW,D&D,V:SOH,LOTR:O
The game breaker for me is the limitations imposed by the LOTR license itself. Four books and an IP that is held like the holy grail unable to change in any significant way. Compared to say Age of Conan which can draw from 80 books, and decades of official comics. Couple that with a more liberal licencing agreement. I played the free beta of LOTR and enjoyed many aspects of the game. (except that my character looked like a tweaker and ran like a retarded troglodite) But I just feel that the IP is to limiting... this became evident to me even as I created my character. I wish LOTR all the luck and know many people will get alot of enjoyment from playing it.
Armor seems to have no redeeming vaule, with the exception of repair costs, the mobs seem to always be albe to hit where as we cannot delay is noticable . The item being used seems to not add not much affect to combat outcome ."Must face target" "target not seen"
"out of range"
I e did not change stats when was hiting with a forest axe, as well as mining tool .
When in a fellowship got item item did not appear in inventory .
Euiping lute before 10 is not seen and at times not "profficent" even with skill
In instances mobs appear dissappear during combat, character is seen then not seen. After about 2 hours of game play wads and or arrow movment inconsitant ( indicitive of memory leak) hard re boot shut down seems to clear that out.
Biggy dissapointed in travel, it cuts to a loading screen. Unlike daoc wow that you can see the world upon horse back, here you get a loading screen. The cry eariler beta was before released travel will be fixed, nope still cuts ot to loading screen.
I think that LOTRO is a beautiful game. The landscapes andareas, while small, were well thought out and looked great. The things I didnt like about the game was the characters, the combat and its Turbine. The characters are very generic with alot of crossover. Nothing truly sentsf any class or any two of the same class apart. The combat was a little to repetitive, even when fighting elites. I knew exactly what order to press my attacks at all times to ensure my damage was effective, and also what attacks/ specials would aid the group best when used. As for my last point, I find Turbine lacks integrity. Often their DT gets extended at the last minute, or they have a high amount of hot fixes after patches. They sometimes have hot fixes to fix hot fixes. I can understand if things ocassionally dont go the way they were planned, but if the regulary dont go as planned well its time to take a long hard look at the company itself. By the way I am not just talking about LOTRO, but other Turbine Releases as well. Also just to clarify, I was never a WoW'er. So no I dont expect things to be like that since I had no inclination to play that MMO either.
I'm afraid I'm with Meridion on this one.......Yeah.....Lvl 200 Ringwraith.....
At this point it is up to Turbine....they have got me. Wether or not they can keep me is another story. I read in another post "The ball is in Turbines court now." This is so true.....They did their job by creating a worthwhile game.....I did my job by purchasing it.....now, it's up to them to try to keep me playing it.

Take a look at the first update coming in June... free content, new area, new mobs, armor and more.
I think Turbine will be keeping us quite busy.
Go Turbine!

Icons hovering over questgivers heads. It's totally unrealistic and ruins immersion for me. I feel like I am being spoonfed like a baby.
LOL!
Let's assume you are being serious, you "can" turn OFF the quest icons. Just go to Options and turn them off in the UI.
Where is the switch for turning it off for everyone? It defeats the point if I change the rules just for myself. That kind of advice is the same as suggesting killing your character a few times each playday if you want a more challenging game. The point is the game is designed too easy and I feel like I am treated like a child. You can't just change that type of environment by creating a harder ruleset for yourself.
I'm quite enjoying it. It's been a long time sinve I felt immersed in an MMO and LoTRO does it for me so far.
There are quibbles though. The "mash attack" syndrome is here as some attacks/heals/buffs/debuffs seem to get held in an invisible queue somewhere but by anticipating about a second or two ahead it works fine.
Repair costs are insane. There is a patch out before launch that addresses this but as noone has seen it who knows what the result will be? I have high hopes though as CM seem intent on listening to people and feeding back information.
Bilbo Baggins not talking to me while I was in the Last Homely House in Rivendell.
But I was too busy drooling at the graphics, music and artwork to be insulted by dear Bilbo's silence.
Seriously, apart from minor things (that I just know Turbine will sort out), there's no game breakers here that I can see. A bit more customisation, usability and further polishing will make this game the very best MMO of its type, imho. And by type, I mean PvE story driven RP festage - which I enjoy - but that's just me, and at least several hundred thousand other people... maybe.
the movement made my wife violently ill after about 15 mins of playing, does that count?
? ? Do other MMORPGs have that effect because the movement is the same as any other MMORPG or FPS for that matter. Unless you went in and clicked align camera to slopes in the mouse settings, which is off be default.
