Hey all!
I just started playing CoH yesterday and I'm pretty pumped. The game is great. My only beef is with the fact that every 20 mins or so I get disconnected. I get either "mapserver disconnect" or "connection lost."
I talked with a few others in the game who have experienced similar events. I'm wondering if anyone knows how to remedy this? Possibly opening up a specific port? Or if anyone's had similar problems!
Thanks all! Can't wait to get back gaming!

Yup alot of people have suddenly gotten them for the past 2 weeks now.. Came with that AM nerf patch.. Its all over the tech forums with the Cyrptic devs saying that they have no clue whats the problem but there trying to find out..(so they say)...I have played since early beta, COH has always had Mapsever problems but never to this extent where you get booted... I think it has something to do with the ports that this game uses.. Which is alot different then other Online games... Just ask anyone with a linkeys or belkin router who was in beta why I say that.
What ever is the reason its becomming annoying and making the game unenjoyable atm... What pisses me off is that some people have it and some dont.. Location and connection doesnt matter some people get it some dont...Makes no sense

You see, every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with their surrounding environment, but you humans do not. You spread to an area, and you multiply, and you multiply, until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet.-Mr.Smith
Ever since that 25 may patch or update or whateevr it was I've also been getting mapserver lag. I dont get disconnected, but I might as well should, since lag is unplayable. My ISP is performing well and my computer is high-speed, low-drag, and I'm confident the problem is the game server.
On the bright side, customer service has been wonderful, and we've been working hard to figure out the problem. Also, I'm moving to a new state next week, so I imagine I'll get a different traceroute to the game server and go back to no problems. We'll see.
All in all, it's a great game. I love it. I just can't wait to get this lag sorted out.

Update your Video Driver.
Update your SOund drivers.
Turn off 3rd Party Text Messaging apps (MSMessenger, ICQ, Yahoo messager, that type)
and don't run that POS free version of Zonealarm while playing, its not gonna help you if anyone installs a trojan in your system anyway.
When all else fails, Poke 'em in the eye with a good sharp stick.

Zonealarm has worked fine with my install since beta.

I've read quite a few solutions that have worked for people from cleaning out the dust on modems, replacing onboard ethernet ports with NIC cards and cleaning out virus's/spyware.
The NCsoft folks are fairly active there. This cuppajoe fellow posted 14 times on Sunday. Give it a shot.

Thanks for the advice all. Unfortuantely I've tried all the driver updates. I've even rolled back all the drivers in various combinations to see if that helps. Right now I believe it's my ISP (or maybe the maperver, who knows). At any rate, I'm moving on the 11th, so I'll get a chance to try a new ISP
If that doesn't work, then I've got my work cut out for me
Thanks again!!

Well, I was in the same boat as you. Mapserver disconnects all the time and it looked apparently like they would never end. I contacted customer support...they were very fast and gave me some advice, such as updating all sorts of drivers and such, but nothing worked. Then, I decided that it was maybe my router that was the problem. Well, I was right, at least in my case. I have a BEFSR41 Linksys Router. What did I do? I updated my firmware through the official Linksys site and it actually worked. Zero disconnects since then. I highly doubt it's coincidence. I'd suggest trying it out...maybe it will solve your problem.
