Final Fantasy: Should Gamers be Racist to the Japanese?

Ok. The reason I put this up is to ask people: Why do American users kill Japanese players? When I was playing Final Fantasy Online I was walking back to the Humes town when all of a sudden a Japnese player was attacked by 5 American players. Why is this happening? Is it because they are better then the rest or is it because there is another KKK in the internet. You decide.

Perhaps it was just an isolated incident?  image

First, I doubt it was because of race.

Second, I wasnt aware there was open PvP in FFXI. Was it recently added?

Third, you have obviously never been high level in the game. It's not usually people being racist to the Japanese, but really the other way around. They go out of their way to avoid having english players in their groups because they assume they are too immature. At least thats what I have heard.

Fourth, how do you know it was? Maybe it was 5 Japanese players attacking an english speaking player?

    1 incident = trend?

I have seen many types of player killing but cannot say I have ever experianced race killing, I would try to create a char that looks Japanese and see if it affects your playing and if it does I would bring it to the attention of the GMs of the game so that they can start watching for it.  I in no way support racist actions of any kind but I am only one person.

I haven't played ffxi in a few weeks but i doubt they'd ever allow attack-anywhere pvp...

It was probably a ballista match, where teams are supposed to work together and kill others.

Now I could be wrong, as I did quit FFXI about a month ago... but I thought non-consensual PvP was impossible... also, until I spoke to a player I generally had no idea what nationality they were either...

In my 3 month experience of the game I had no issues at all with our East Asian brothers and sisters - in fact one experience sticks in my mind..

I had been incap'd and was hoping a friendly soul would resurrect me. A character stopped by, and after quite a bit of hassle understanding each other (using the built in translator) it turned out that whilst he couldn't help me he had sent a tell to a friend who was on his way. I waited about 20 mins for the player to arrive and help me (so I avoided the XP debt). And when I was healed up and ready to go the guys apologiesed for taking to long to get to me!

If Japanese and Americans want to have their own groups chances are it's more an issue of the language barrier than any form of racism.

LOL, well, the Japanese sure are right about that.  American players are very immature when it comes to gaming.  Ive played FFXI for some time and every Japanese I ran into were very very nice and very cordial; the exact opposite of the majority of all Chinese players in Lineage ][

The only way u could have seen the PvP was during a ballista match as this is the only form of PvP in FFXI to date. In which players are supposed to attack one another and team up against others. what you saw was just a poor SoB that got caught in Ballista on his own.image

I don't particularely get the point in racism IN A GAME IF ANYWHERE ELSE. The worlds a hipocrit man..seriously if we all played nicely and just shut our big flapping mouths then we might actually acheive this thing they call peace. I tell you it's one guy that starts it, another guy that copies it, two guys that like it, 4 people who hate it..and it continues...don't get why people can't just stop hating :/

The world knows you best as a 0 or a 1, combinations of the 2 are possible, are you a 1 or a 0? Or are you a combination of the 2? The world might not know you after all...but keep trying, there are many 1's and 0's out there, find yours.

Well...I doubt that it is more then an isolated event but...if it is not isolated here is the explanation:

    - Those players are used to play in English and they feel *personnally* threaten because their might be a big number of players using a foreign language and they suddenly feel excluded and not welcome and get a red neck attitude answer to those players.

When I stick to frenchies and talk in french, sometimes english speaking players are a lot less nice if not plainly rude, but again, some are still very nice.  Yet, this is not a *against english* only, some of other foreigners can be reacting just as bad, but it is usually extremely rare, a Japanese or a German player that see you speak french usually just ignore you or smile kindly. Hehe on a side note, when I see folks speak in a language I dont understand, I am always itching to turn to french...hehe

Anyway, Japanese players might not be aware of this, but Americans that where racists(which was a minority...I hope) back then where also using a : ''Speak White'' arguing.

At any rate, it is not racist, it is a linguistic issue.

I recall,  2 of the 5 strongest guilds on my server(the meaniest) where spreading info on how rude the Japanese players where, and of course, this info was WAY exagerate, yet, I am sure, some 3rd party new players often didnt think much on the topic and take the comment for truth saddly.

Personnally, the worst thing I ever experience myself from any Japanese player was to be ignored...while those anti-Japans talkers KS, Train, PK or did some other very nasty things(guilds politics can be complexs).  I dont doubt a Japanese player can be as mean as any other althought, yet, I only have positive experiences myself and I am pretty happy with it.

Of course I never listen to those nasty players myself, but again, if I was not a foreign language speaker and already knowing some aspects of some Americans more then they know themseleves, I could just have fall in and believe them and make bad mistakes...I am happy I didnt fall in.

The scenario is easy to figure out, 1 bad person, 10 normal but scared persons(kids are easy to scarred compare to adults generally speaking), xenotalk...dont think Americans are worser then others folks, it is just easier to scarred folks that belong to a majority(english) then to scarred folks that belong to a minority(french, Japanese, Italian, German,...) when the only fact you have is someone speaking a foreign language instead of speaking your native language, because for us all minority folks, we are already used to see folks speak a foreign language for us(english).

*shrug*  If some players care enought, try to figure out who are those that start such thinking, dont bash the followers or those that replicate dumbly once or twice those dumbs things(well, can bash a little, but dont overdo it, they will feel justified if you overbash them no matter how wrong they are), just find the nasty mean person, usually such a person will either be the nicest(in appearance) or the worst of those groups.

Will unfair bashing on foreign speakers stop tomorrow?  I hope so, but I am not naive enought to believe it.  Those constantly complaining about your poor english grammar and structure are OFTEN(not a 1 time or 2 comment, a constant reminder that your english lack show a hater that deserve all bashing, especially if the reminder seem casual, nice and not agressing, can very well pinpoint better then full hatred comment if to frequent) the same haters, so having a Japanese friend that speak a good but not perfect english is a good tool to pinpoint the nasty players.

I'm locking this thread as it has strayed too much towards being racist itself.

    Thread locked.
