Guild Wars 2

Any thoughts or comments from the GW community? I personally am really looking forward to this. One of my main gripes about GW was the lvl 20 cap on characters. I don't PvP so when my character reached lvl 20 and I get to endgame, there's not much for me to do but start a new character and do it all over again. The missions get old after doing them 20 million times and, while the new campaigns were all really awesome (Factions being my fav) it was still more missions and alot of the same type of game play as original GW. Notice the emphasis on type. I did not say it's all the same.

So they're raising the level cap, making the world non-instanced which will be great, adding new races to play and adding a World PvP type thing along with lots of other stuff.

I'm really excited about GW2 and the best part is that they will still be no subscription fee like so many other MMO's.

Hooray!

you have to realize that GW is a PvP game... with some PvE in there. all the aspects of the game are put in mostly for PvP. so LvL 20 for those who do PvP is  amazing but for a PvE player like you... meh... you might find it boring after a while...

i am also hyped about GW2  since i play lots of PvP in it... i cant wat for the World PvP and the tournament modes... i get shivers just thinking about it... and the fact that they are making it much less instanced is kind of worring me a bit ...  im aoried it will turn out into a grind/raid game. if it is the case i think i will stay with my prophecies/factions/nightfall.

also they will be adding races...  i hope they do not put in RvR? mmmmmmmmmmmm i am  not sure i would like RvR in GW

I personally believe Anet will go in either of the following directions:

-They stay true to the spirit of Guild Wars 1 and keep everything that makes Guild Wars such a good game, and add to that everything people have been missing from other mmorpgs. Not the bad things (grinding, rediculous level caps, rediculous loot, imbalancing, low amount of skills and options, ganking), but the good things (higher social level due to less instancing, more content, less title-hunting). This would greatly improve the Guild Wars series and our gaming pleasure!

-They forget about everything that made Guild Wars a great game and introduce everything that makes regular mmo's such a drag to play. They forget about skill diversity, they forget about balance, they forget about low level caps and low damage and health caps, they forget about everything that sets Anet apart from the SOE and the Blizzard.

I myself hope for the first thing to happen. Heck, I would love for most of the skills to transport right from Guild Wars 1 to Guild Wars 2 without change! Keep the low energy cap and costs, it prevents mindnumbing tactics like use of potions to win a battle. Anet can say whatever they want about Guild Wars 2, how it's going to be an improvement on Guild Wars 1, how everyone will transfer from 1 to 2, but I have to see for myself. It's not hard to imagine an utter disaster, or a geniously put together game here. And I hope that in the first case, Anet can realise to fall back to Guild Wars 1's succes without being stubborn. And in the second case, for the Guild Wars community to embrace the new situation as is. Kudo's for Anet for even trying such a risky path though...

Im going to enjoy GW will I can, such as all three campaigns and the expansion. But Im leaving when GW2 comes out and never looking back becuase this game will sink big time in my opinion. The whole idea of the game going none instance sends chills down my back and Im really going to hate this game when they make the new races. I mean come on GW dont go over to WoW where there are barley any human races and everybody wants to be a jackoff night elf or blood elf. I mean come on GW was all about humans. No matter how wierd you look you where always a good old fashion human! GW2 is going to crash the game completly and Im just going to avoid the game completly.

Yea, GW does a lot of PvP in it, but the side PvE bit to it is still pretty cool, I admit it does get boring if you like a lot of PvE but I think if Anet put some effort in the PvE of GW2 they can truly make a stasifying game for PvE and PvPers, I have a hunch GW will have good PvE since in GWEN you will only be able to cap some skills in PvE.

We're all Geniuses. Most of us just don't know it.

Can't be sure, but it looks like they are trying to make it more like a conventional MMORPG game, which goes against much of what makes the game successful.  They seem to be trying to tailor the game towards too many markets......which I think might make it less successful than the first....

Even then I don't think that A-net is going to make the mistake of making the game "more like Evergquest". They certainly knew how to boot out everything that wasn't fun about original MMoRPGs in Guild Wars 1 so I doubt they are going to bring back monster grinding.

That'll make me sound like a fanboy but I think A-net deserves *some* faith from their community for what they did so far. Seriously, compared to many other games out there we are  some spoiled children.

What I am more curious about is how A-net is going to pull off all this while still staying away from monthly fees. I'm a sceptic when it comes to money and I just can't see how the game makes enough of it to sustain itself... child labour ?

Well they will be raising the lvl cap,  and making PvE and PvP more integrated (e.g. a good quest with awsome rewards will only be available to the humans after the charr win a certain organized PvP battle). and from my understanding is that their world PvP will be alot more organized (could be instanced) than like WoW where you can walk around and kill lower lvls they will be large battles extended over an insane amount of time, where people can come and go freely, there will also be alot of big objectives like "destroy the Sylvarian castle". There will be 5 different factions that you can join despite your race, one of the five will be a "common enemy" in which all factions are against, but will most likely be more profitable to be the enemy faction. All in all these facts might not be 100% correct seeing as how they will make more decisions and revisions to the game. I am extremely hyped about this game, hope its not a dud (cough WOW cough)

Now now... Little reason to get pissed at a game which Beta is scheduled for late 2008.

Design guidelines, nothing carved in stone and too few details so far. We get a glimpsed of the "What" and forums get swarmed with all kind of speculations about the "How".

I would hope to see a hybrid of both worlds...the best out of corpgs and the traditional mmo. Arenanet has been really innovative by far and I hope they continue to do so with GW 2

Playing now: Cities: Skyline / Ori and the Blind Forest / Banished

Well, I'm going to trust Anet that they will make a good sequel to GW, they said they will keep everything that made GW good and they also said that it will still be instanced but will have some persistant parts in the game so no need to worry about the game not being instanced for anyone worrying about that
  • kozikurukozikuru Member Posts: 8
I'll start out by saying I'm a big GW fan.  I own all three chapters and have many hours logged into the game.

The fact that such a great game can be published and maintained without a monthly fee is simply amazing.  It's every bit as good as other MMOs I've played, but without the annoying grinding, kill stealing, resource competition, etc.

I've finished all three chapters and I'm currently working on the Titles.  I held off on Titles because they seemed so daunting to accomplish.  However, now that I've started, it's added a whole new aspect to the game.  The recent addition of "hard mode" along with the Vanquisher Title is awesome.  If you get bored, try working on skill capping or cartography titles.  Obtaining elite skills for the different secondary professions opens up new game play tactics and ideas.

I'm very excited about GW2.  I didn't read a single thing in the PC Gamer article that caused concern -- other than PC Gamer's frequent questioning of the monthly fee... how many times do the developers need to say "no monthly fee" before it sinks in?

The concept of choosing one of your GW1 Toons as your "ancestor" rocks.  You'll inherit benefits from your long ago GW1 ancestor based upon titles, pets, etc.  I can't wait to see it.  First indications will be in the upcoming expansion pack with the Hall of Monuments.

I think the "persistent" areas are nothing more than larger outposts that exist currently.  GW1 survives because of it's server infrastructure.  I find it hard to believe that there will be areas consistent with other MMOs.  I think the new persistent areas will be great, but not what people are initially thinking.

GW1 is such a great product, I have no doubt that GW2 will be as well.  If I could pre-order now, I would!

    I am not shure..

Guild Wars at the moment is a piece of art. The game itself is beautifull!!

I cant defende the game like this coz its my opinion but i believe that alot of players agree with me.

    But i fear..

I fear that this game will become another cheap copy of everything that has been done before.

    The low level cap!!

Level cap at 20!! Where do will you find a game with this max level? Its not a bad thing! Its a feature!

Over a gazillion skill in their pool! Copys?? I dont think so. Every profession is unique.

Just humans! Yeah.. No elves and there are dwarfes but you cant roll as one.

The Charr.. Well this guys are just mystical. As long as they are there this title will never totaly lose its magic touch.

PvP- Well this is my biggest concern. Guild Wars was the game for real competition on MMO's

It actually takes knowledge of the game to truly succed.

And i fear that EVERYTHING will change in GW2

When i first read about this game i felt depressed

P.S. I believe the only thing i wont miss is instanced world

GW might have been more focused on PvP at first but now they're going in full PvE direction. They've discovered that the majority of GW players are PvE players who rarely or never PvP, hence why Nightfall is way more PvE oriented, like EotN will be (PvE only skills, etc.). We can only guess that GW 2 will be more PvE oriented that GW could ever be. They said themselves that if they wanted to make the changes they wanted to make and add what they wanted to add, it would imply remake the game entirely and that is why they're making GW 2 because it's easier to start anew than to repare what you've done. Yup, more PvE, more RPG for the future of GW2, definitively looking forward to it. And this time, we the PvE players won't depend on the minority of the PvP players anymore. I so want to play a Charr now. :)

from what i been reading. they are focusing on both PVE and PVP for GW2.

GW2 is suppose to be open ended (like wow) their is gonna be world pvp and multi drive story lines (so you get a choice in how the story goes.

They aren't stupid, they will not make it worse but they will continue in the style the people like and change the things most people didn't like that much.

Why would they chang style if they are a top game using their own style? I'm sure GW2 will be even better than GW and I can't wait to grab one!

At first, I was unsure about GW 2, but now, thinking of the work done by arena soft, I became more confident in a GW 2.

Sure, there is some new features, that look like which already had been done, or change the way the game is. But if done right, it could be great.

I began to like more GW2 after readed about the monument feature in GW: EN - the one which allows you to transfer your deeds and merits from gw1 to Gw2. While the new expansion will serve as a conection between the two games.

Looking forward to GW2 as well.  Though I have to say, they seem to be intergrating alot of the things I came to GW to get away from.  I like the single, epic, and immersive storyline of GW as opposed to "Collect 12 Mystic Rocks and then we're gonna send you to another quest giver who will give you a task completely unrelated to the last one".  Hope that won't be the case with GW2.  However, I don't want to make too many assumptions before I play it.  Oh yeah, the ancestor characters and the continuing f2p are awesome
  • kozikurukozikuru Member Posts: 8
If ANet proved anything with GW1... it's that we should give them the benefit of the doubt with GW2.  I have very high expectations... that's also the fault of ANet :-D.
  • kegboyiikegboyii Member Posts: 103
I can't wait for GW2 myself either. I am liking what i'm hearing so far. Though i do want to know exactly how they are advancing character customization beyond level 20 in GW:EN. Can't remember which interview that was posted at or maybe it was on the wiki...bleh. It's funny that in all the dev interviews, nobody has bothered to ask that question. All the questions that are asked of the dev team have been asked in other interviews from other sites. I wanna know just that one thing, how are they advancing beyond level 20!? More attribute points? Stronger weapons or armor?

the idea that you also get free stuff (pets, equipment etc) based on your previous guild wars achievements, is a nice idea.

Plus there's more than one race... wo0o charr here i come

Frankly if you've played Guild Wars and read the article in the PC Gamer which had a ton of information and a cool example of their changing non-instanced enviorments... I'd have to say more people than not should be excited. I know I am.

After GW:EN ships, they will really focus all of their efforts on GW2. I still anticipate more changes they wish to make to GW1 as well. Hope i can get a Charr hero in GW:EN!
