Last Chaos = Lineage 2?

Is anyone else completely annoyed that this game is almost entirely a copycat of L2? I, for one, didn't care much for L2. The xp grind was too much and the skill system was greatly lacking. But.. that's for another day. Everything right down to the character models and UI are almost identical. I know, it's free, but I would expect at least some originality. What a disappointment.

    I've heard this argument a lot and in some instances even compared the game myself to L2; however, to say it's a clone is going a bit far seeing as how both games have a general signature all there own. The one game that I can say is VERY close to L2 is ArchLord from what bit I played; which I use only in this example as my generalized opinion and state this because I’m sure there is someone with strong points to prove that statement wrong and thus please impede the idea of attacks I ment no provocation from that statement if you have flame on that PM it to me. In any event though, you can see the inspiration of a game like L2 in many titles; Rappelz, LC, even SilkRoad. Diablo 2 inspired games like Sacred and Titan Quest. Look at the WarHammer and WarCraft series each drawing from one another in real time strategy. Or Hero's taking notes from Oblivion with it's release of Dark Messiah. By the basic logic you're implying here thousands upon thousands of games are clones of other games which could be considered clones themselves, when each are simply acting on a different point to find a unique niche in a growing marketplace, and last I check profit wasn't a bad word if you're wanting to run a business. Case in point, just because something is drawing on an inspiration you can't call it a clone, some very great games were inspired by some of the very best games of all time.

    I have just started playing LC for a few days and was astonished by the similarity.  I have only played lineage 2 for a month 2 years ago and yet it automatically reminds me of L2 when I started playing this game.  Personally I think LC is pretty decent for a free game.

    you miss an important point, games like  dark messiah or sacred use they own feature and they own coding while LC, Rappelz, SR etc just use the same  L2 base code its purely clones witht some twinks... you find the same in some L2 modified private servers.

    Again that's the general feel of the same type of game. Generally speaking if you played ArchLord or even SilkRoad you would get that bit of nostalgia all over again because of the similar mechanics. Same feeling I get when I start playing EverQuest and DAoC every now and again. I have to play one right after the other cause each makes me miss the high points of the other with the feeling of something familiar. Seriously though, if you move deeper into the world of L2 you'll see there are a LOT of differences between the two games. You'd have to have gone further then SoDA to start to feel them as well, right around class change is where it starts to separate. Till then it's the same killing spree grindfest as any other MMO with nothing to make it unique itself.

    -> Blaam

    Alright lets back track there just a bit, neither dark messiah or Sacred used there own anything other then story line and ideas, there engines are both licenced from different companies. Dark Messiah using the engine from Valve and Sacred something they bought and modified from a European company who's name escapes me at the moment. Now the code part; Silk Road uses there own rendering engine, most likely some modified version of Havoc or something. Rappelz uses an engine that they claim was built from scratch. And LC uses the Unreal 2 engine, but none of them share code with one another, they are simply designed in a similar fashion, but other then sharing a common business model none of them have anything to do with one another, yet again, none share a business model with L2. And what do the emulated servers have to do with anything, they share the code because they are emulating the server for L2, they have to share the code, otherwise the emulation wouldn't work. You're point suffers a flaw, validation. Find it, then come back.

    So you're saying that LC, Rappelz and such are basically stealing and using L2's "base code"?

    Umm... you realize how illegal that is/would be?

    No.. they're just  designed with alot similarity to L2's look/feel and gameplay.

    This is nothing new in the game industry. How many "me-too" clones did Wolfenstein, then Doom then Quake spawn? How many fighting games did Karate Champ and Mortal Kombat spawn? Look how many  upcoming MMOs are borrowing very heavily from WoW's look and playstyle.

    It's a very copycat industry.. this is nothing new.

    Anyone copying from WoW's "look and feel" will surely fail. The only thing that keeps WoW up top is the Blizzard logo right next to the title.

    I see some simularities between this and L2. I see they tried to get similar character models, but I still don't think they are as good.

    All and all, this is what L2 would be if L2 was free. Would definately say L2 has better graphics, better game play, and less bugs.

    LC isn't a bad game though. Esspecially for a 'free' game, although you pay money to get upgraded stuff to be the best.
