Is DAoC really worth playing?

I have been wondering whether DAoC is really worth the time or is there other fantasy rpgs out there that are better. If so,  post them and the reasons why. Or defend DAoC as being good to play.

DAoC ios one of the greats. Not gonna post reason because there is a whole lot of reviews on it and it been discussed 100 times.

Only thing i would say its nearly 3 years old and the graphics show the age. Also most are level 50 now with buffbots so might be a nightmare for a new player espically if you pick a non solo friendly class.

Even those old players that want a new character they can /level 30 now so there are very few to play with till you hit 30.

I would say no personally, you will struggle to find people to play with as a noob, because everyone is at least lvl 30. The worst feature in any game is the ability to create a new character at lvl 30, and this is only open once you reach lvl 50.

Maybe if they let new players join at lvl 30 then that would be ok, but by allowing current players to start at 30 they are just admitting that the first 30 levels are a boring grind of pressing the attack button and waiting to win or lose over and over again.

Actually you can only /level 30 on another server with a realm that has a low population.

So say you want to /level on lancelot which has albion as the highest population realm you can only make a level 20.Whereas if you pick the lowest population realm say hiberian you get a level 30 character.

This was originally designed to help balance the realms in population and encourage players burnt out on their own server/realm to pick a realm that is in dire need of players.

Still this is admitting that the lower levels have no use in the game, i would much rather have had them bring out an expansion to make people enjoy being low level rather than bypass it.

Or like i say make this feature also available to new players.

I never really got past level 6 with any character in my brief spell on the game however, so cannot comment on the game once you do get to lvl 30.

Yeah but power levelling isnt exactly in the spirit of an MMORPG. He will miss out on whatever low level content there is.

I dont know why people bother with MMORPG's if they are going to powerlevel because all that means is they play for the endgame which is normally pvp and you may as well play an fps or something similar.

In my opinion DAoC is still the best fantasy MMO out there. I still play it, and I always come back to it after trying other MMOs. If you choose a populated server you wont worry about being alone, there are always people 1-50 around. So don't listen to that fool. Give it a try on the free trail if you wanna try it, no creditcard required i hear. Also the graphics are not outdated. Your a true dumb ass if you think so.  Or just a total retard. You'll have to excuse the anger, I truly like this game. 1 last thing, I promise. New expansion comming out for better character models and group only dungeons. So play this game, you wont be dissapointed.

Dunno if you are insulting me along with the other guy because i too said the graphics are old.

Anyhow i try and give a fair as possible review to ALL mmorpg. And not be a fanboi or troll. Also try and be mature and not insult others with a different view.

I have given this game my second best ever mmorpg in many polls and reviews only beaten by EQ.

First i was in the game right from beta 2 to 1 year after release. And have had a few months spell with every single expansion SI and ToA.

here is as fair as i can say it.

1)Graphics is aging. It happens to ALL mmorpg.Thats part of aging. You can update the engine but short of an overhaul there is little you can do.However.graphics is better then AC or UO and that still has a lot of following. Also graphics do not judge a mmorpg by any means as long as its not too horrible and DAoC certainly is not bad at all graphics wise just aging.

2)It has probably the most unique form of pvp in any mmorpg .It is organised ,has specific zones to pvp, actually has a goal ie forts, relics etc,no griefing or looting, produces mass scale battles,no talking between enemies so no tells like "i roxor u noob".

3)has an ok pve.Yes its not as good as EQ pve but its not too bad.you have to remember the key feature of the game is the RvR.

4)You don't have to be powerlevelled. Some of the most fun quest this game has is at lower level. As of feb this year on my last return the low levels 1 - 20 were not that many at least on my server. However, the first 10 levels are dead easy to do task, fight or quest and go by very fast.Even if you pick a class that solos poorly like the rogues. And if you pick a class like a necro you might not even want to group apart from social reasons.

5)there is a free trial so go have a look at it .However i think 7 days is too little to judge this game. The real fun is in the realm vs realm .Many tried the free trial and declared it to be a bad game but at level 1 -20 u have seen nothing of the game at all.

Conclusion this still remains one of the best ever mmorpg made. And its over 250,000 accounts say so too.

The graphics arent that bad, some mmorps released later than DAoC havre shittier looking graphics. This games main downfall is that it is just so darn boring.  That being said i quit before the expansions came out so it may have improved.

I just started playing DAOC because I saw the free trial for it and I said, why not try it out it can't hurt.  I wasn't expecting the game to be as good as it is.  If you are an Everquest player or a former Everquest player at some point and you enjoyed it to some extent I would definately recommend tryign DAOC.  The way I like to think of it is that DAOC is an improved version of EQ.  Depending on what game styles you like it may not be the game for you but definately if you are into the genre of medieval style you should check it out.

Also there is suppose to be an expansion coming out 4th quarter of this year that is an entirely refined graphics engine on the character models.  So it is bound to be awesome.

    take care all,

I'm currently playing with 4 characters under level 10 on the Tristan server and have been invited to group several times. It seems there must be alot of new players somewhere since all the DAoC Gold Editions are sold out in the stores in my area, LOL.

I've really enjoyed the hours that I have put into the game so far. The community has been very friendly and veteran players have been helpful with advice, etc. I like the graphics in game. Sure the character mods could use a makeover which is up and coming with the Catacombs expansion.

Try the seven day trial and see how you like it. Whether or not you do is always a matter of personal choice, style and taste.
