Best CONSOLE RPG?

XaldorXaldor Member Posts: 236

What are your favorite console RPG's?

My all time favorite is KOTR, which should be obvious to anyone that has played this game.  I also enjoyed BG dark alliance, everquest:CON, and Gladius.

P.S. has anyone played morrowind: elder scrolls....I am itching to buy it, but I wanted to hear some feedback from fellow RPGers...Xaldor

My personal absolute favorite is Xenogears, but that is not where my name came from.

my favorite console rpg is chrono cross. its short, but its the only console rpg ive ever played through more than twice. and for as short as it was, it had a very interesting story, and one of the biggest twists ive ever seen in a story. i liked actually being able to see the enemies too, so if you wanted to you could avoid them. the fighting was interesting too, where you could decide the damage of your attack, and the chance of hitting the enemy. it also had kind of a pokemon esque addictiveness to it, in getting every possible character, even though you couldnt get them all while going through the same storyline. i never actually did it, but if i ever get a ps2 again i will definitely try to.

shadow hearts for ps2 would be a close second, and even though it seems few have heard of it im glad a sequel is coming out.

id reccomend morrowind. its hard to get into at first and can get lonely, but once you get into it its hard to stop.

Maybe not best, but most stuck in my mind - Shining Force II on the Mega Drive. I think it was the first RPG-type game I ever played. Got it for Christmas the year it came out, and I was hooked the second I put it in. I think I sat playing it from 7am to lunch time on Christmas morning, and my brother (four years older than me) never moved from my side either.

It had never occured to me you could put a whole world and an (to me at the time) epic story spanning wars, continents, building new towns, finding ancient vehicles and battling with demons with a couple of dozen allies to chose from. I mean, before then I was used to platformers and shoot-em-ups! It completely changed my idea of what a game could be.

FF2(FF4) for snes was good, Chrono Cross and Trigger were awesome as well.. Grandia 2 for dreamcast was another goo one as wel as Record of Lodoss War, FF8 was cool too, Secret of Mana.. an we cant forge the greatest console RPG of all time: Illusion of Gaia for SNES.. anyone wo played it cant say it wasnt an awesome game...

The Elder Scrolls: Morrowind is awesome, with Tribunal and Bloodmoon and all the plugins ive added, course im talking about the PC version.. where you load every 15 minutes or so, but the game is too good to not play cause of that.. ive never played the XBOX version but i hear its almost as good..

KOTOR sucks!  OMG I hated that game, so linear I wanted to shoot myself.  Anyway, Morrowind is an AWESOME game, so many quests, you can steal from anyone, kill anyone, I LOVED it!

    My 3 fav

    1. FF-7 (I spent 6 months on this game)

    2. KotoR (great gfx and combat, as well as storyline, only took me 4 days to beat tho image)

    3. Chrono Trigger (SNES and still rocked, took me like 2-3 weeks to beat)

Granted i didn't play my console games often. Maybe 2-3 hours a day max. Only one I played for long periods at a time was KotoR because i rented it.

Xenogears and final fantasy 7, either one of those two are just incredible. At least back when i played them. I played Xenosaga more recently, and its very good as well, but cant quite compare. Actually i dont think anything can be as good to me at least as these two games. Maybe ill go back and play them and relive old memories. haha

Final Fantasy Tactics.. The only game that I became emotionally attached to the character.. A black mage; I stayed almost a month trying to beat a stage without him dieing.. For some strange reason i'd Always win the mission but he'd always die no matter what i did....  imageimage

Ah, yes FF tactics. Good times. That game was a little too deep.. Too many things to try. I didn't have the time to play it. I did try it though.

You definitly should make time to play through it.. It's one of those classics that shouldn't be missed... Kinda like when I get my first child... I'm gonna find a Nintendo.. And have him/her play through mario and Duck hunt.. Then life will be perfect.. image

how can you say Morrowind is a snore, it is so deep, so many things to do... and with the ability to make your own race, class, items, places, etc. you can customize it so much. I do feel though that it lets you make a god person, but the race i created is balanced and i added its own purpose in the game... with its own additional storyline.
