Look at Dark and Light. It was supposed to be the game to end all other games and yadi yadi yada. Wait until retail to actually judge the quality of the game, until then have fun hyping it.
Looks like a fan made montage of five year old screenshots combined with the only two "gameplay" videos ever released.
I put scare quotes around the word "gameplay" because neither video provides any actual proof that there is even a game in development. The first video looks like it may have been pre-rendered (likely since such effects on display were not available on even the most advanced graphics cards at the time). The second video has a noticeably lower polygon count than the first, and I assume was made using an open source FPS engine over a LAN. You'll also notice that a lot of the excessive bump mapping and bloom effect are nowhere to be seen in the second video.
do they even have a publisher yet last i heard they could not find one...wait until beta to say its the best so you can fake like you played the beta and how it owns everything yada yada yada....
This game looks awesome. Who gives a shit what you others say. If an Fps style fantasy mmo doesn't appeal to you... then just say so.
I think this game will be amazing. But first we have to wait till retail like everyone else says.
Dark and Light did not look like it would change the face of gaming from the start... Even I saw that. All I saw in DnL was a big big world and a few fun things to do in the game. I don't know why everyone would think it was going to change anything. Just another game. And games like Vanguard, why do people get so hyped? Good graphics and another big world. And when it was released everyone was disappointed... Why? Because it was just a EQII clone? Sure why not. I for one find VG fun. But I don't play it. Just about every mmo is the same style of gameplay. Its a big world where you target an NPC. Click on your hotbar until your enemy dies. Get cool loot and equipment to increase the speed of your enemies health decreasing and you win. Game over..............
I just hope they put content in the game. If not, it will be another Shadowbane. I like PvP, but I like to get my carebear on and PvE as well. A successful MMO needs the players who like to PvE the majority of the time and PvP when they feel like it. No content = no carebears = small player base.
I agree. If they want to make this game work it's definitely content. They have everything else right for my interests. Except that it's fantasy... A new styled game away from the fantasy genre would be cool.
been watching and looking forward to this game for a long time. Slowly however, they are falling farther and farther behind with visual qualities in my opinion.
Meaning, when it does come out, its gonna feel like im playing a game i should have been playing back in 2002. I hope they can keep up the graphics because right now they are a bit iffy, and from what I have seen of the character models and animations... theres much to be lacking at themoment.
Gamplay is key, but like any woman, only the hot ones give you happy feelings in your underpants. Graphics matter.

Exactly what I was thinking. They kinda look like 2 different engines.
If Darkfall doesnt crash and bur I will personally come to your house and say I was wrong. This game will actually surprise me if it makes it to release by the end of next year.
With the sheer amount of hype DF has received, if it does eventually get released, I reckon it's got a good chance of being unsuccessful. Anything, no matter how great, will suffer from excess hype (which DF has been subject to for the past 5 years).

This game is never coming out. get over it.
Even though I think there is still a game, I have to say I want to see something that shows us there is one.
I have to agree with scythe, I want more information about the game itself, all we have atm are a few videos lots of screenshots and just a bunch of lore. The videos and the screenshots show nothing that proves there is a game, and the lack of showing anything content related for the passed few years is a really bad move if they truly have a game.

You're not going to get that with Darkfall, and today's Carebear's (of which I strongly resemble) won't tolerate a FFA PVP game where they can be ganked at a moments notice.
It would be better if Darkfall stayed true to its roots and remained a hardcore PVP game. Sure, it won't ever see WOW sub numbers, but I think it could definitely draw 250-500k hardcore players who would enjoy the wide open sandbox world where players control the content and gameplay. Leave the PVE questing to other games......
By the way, all those people who claim that skill based systems give a player total freedom to develop their characters the way they want are overlooking the fact that in a FFA PvP game, most players will find they must skill up in key combat skills to even have a chance at survival, so they will end up whole lot more similar in the end than they think.

At least 2002. Somebody once posted the article from RPGVault.

All games are great...
...on paper.
Come again when it actually hits retail.
The launch was as smooth as...um
The GM's are better than...hmm
What was I saying?

I'm gonna create a guild, build an armada, then conquer
So SOE can't ruin it
Not to mention no levels, just skills, you arn't stuck in 1 class. You can do anything.
Then again i also like PVP anywhere, gives the game more risk, which means the community would be more polite knowing you can die at any second.
