I was just complaining in a nother forum about how boring current MMORPGs are when somebody suggested this game. Are there any free trials out there? I checked their website and didn't see any. Thx!
I think you have to ask someone for a free trial. They only do promotional free trials at certain periods of time. I'm guessing they won't right now because they just made interlude and that is drawing in enough new customers.

I cannot agree with you. L2 is great due to it's mechanics and PvP arena, which I particularly enjoy (and more, just listed the best in my opinion). Community is great and helpful in getting the best out of that title. Of course it ain't like classic story-driven cRPGs, but it just not what this is all about IMHO.
Believe me, this game is just another griiiiiiiiinding and grinding fest. It has NOTHING, you get a cute character and move around grinding everywhere, also it's plenty of bots. Maybe it's just oriental philosophy of stay all the day doing repetitive things?
BTW. Play on bartz. Lots of people. Made the mistake of starting on Deviane and everytime I go back to play I wish I had taken my off time to learn Greek.
It seems you just missed the 14 days trial. It was still on the main site last week, but it seems to be gone now.
L2 is a good game. I had a lot of fun there and it has a great community. But you might also want to consider Rappelz (http://rappelz.gpotato.com/). Rappelz is L2, but better. Better graphics, better and more pets and pets management (as opposed to the worthless L2 pets, people actually use pets in Rappelz), better mounts (although you can only rent them, in this game people actually use mounts), many more quests (L2 is very quest limited), AND ABOVE ALL there are no bots ^^ (50 to 75% of the L2 player base are bots).
The higher end game is not as finished as L2's yet, but the Epic 4 expansion is coming later this month to improve this.
All in all Rappelz is like L2, it plays and feels like L2. But it's free to play.

But yes, there is grind. So if you don't like grindy games, probally not the one for you. The PvP is great tho... The community is generally awesome! But yes there are farmers that use bots, and players that use bots. Most support classes are run by bots in this game, but there are still a few live ones. It is because of the heavy grind, but the great pvp that people bot since they don't want to grind as much but they wan't to pvp more and faster. Saying that 50-70% are bots? Where did you find that figure? There are a lot, but I doubt there is 70%, maybe about half or under half if you include the pro farmers.
If this really doesn't bother you, and it shouldn't because all MMOs have cheaters, I wouldn't let some people destroy the image of L2 for you. This game has been around for 3 years and is still second in the world to WoW. It isn't WOW and it isn't the fruity flower picky games that hands you a bag of gold so it seems 'fair'. Most L2 players are hardcore gamers, and you have to be hardcore also. I don't mean huge time commitments, because I play this game only a few hours a week, but to actually be hardcore in your attitude towards the game.
So if you are looking for something different, then L2 is definately that. If you will like it or not, well thats your own personal opinion. I've been playing it for over 2 and a half years and it is the only game that EVER EVER kept me playing that long.

Last Chaos is a nice game, if you like zoning. Every area is in its own small zone, not in an open/seamless world like Rappelz and L2.
Rappelz is the best free mmorpg. Graphics are better than Last Chaos; even better than Lineage 2. It has a bigger viewing distance, the most beautiful and swaying trees, some swaying grass, some reflective water (L2 does not have all this). L2 is 3 years old, rappels started around last November only, so the world is of course still smaller.
Last Chaos with its zones can't compete with Rappelz. Rappelz is Lineage 2, but better (still not as complete on the higher level play, but the Epic 4 expansion is coming early next month to improve this):
- same excellent and *most fun* fighting system (best of any mmos, as L2)
- better graphics than L2. Especially the outside areas with more viewing distance, nicer swaying trees, some swaying grass, ...)
- better pet system than L2 (many pets, you get them early) (compared to the poor L2 pet system, in Rappelz people actually use pets ^^)
- more and better mounts system than L2 (although you have to rent them, you can't own them)
- better/more quest play than L2
- better skills system than L2 which is fun with skill enchantment cards
- no bots; at least 50% of the L2 player base are bots.
- there is more to do in Rappelz. In L2 you only grind and have fun with your party and friends. In rappelz you have all that and more. You also have castles sieges, etc (still not as complete, but improving with the expansions).
The L2 pets system is pathetic. No one uses pets in L2, they are so difficult to take care off now one wants them. The same goes for the poor mounts system in L2, no one uses the "only mount" in L2 (yes there is only 1 mount in L2) (the wyvern does not count as only the castle leader gets it).
I have left Vanguard and Lotro for Rappelz. This game is just so much more fun (probably due to the better *fun* fighting system) I have been playing rappelz for 1,5 month now.
I still have my Lineage 2 subscription (played for more than 1 year), but I haven't played it again since I started Rappelz. Of course L2 is a great game, but compared to the free Rappelz, L2 is not worth the money you pay monthly. The great thing about L2 is the community, the friends you make, the clanies. In Rappelz there are also friends and guildies, its the same fun (one you are in a guild, like any mmorpg) but there is more to do.
But of course, I agree with you, the game is free so you also find a younger community there. Its up to you to join a mature guild, so simple.
And of course, to each his own. For some EQ1 still is the best mmorpg, for some others it's UO or AC1. Many are good, Rappelz is one of them.
And of course, some others also believe that if they need to pay for something it is always better, the more expensive the better it is

Text formatting makes the game feel "junky" to me. Looks sloppy. I also felt that the game seemed very generic to me.
Free means nothing to me as I would gladly pay double what I pay for any game I felt was worth it.
You do bring up a good point in that Lineage 2 requires quite some time to get to "a good place", you have to belong to a clan/alliance and L2 pets are horrible. That will be changing in the next update but the point is still valid.
But that is why I said "you are either a Lineage 2 player or not. The new academy system where clans can invite lower lvl players into a sort of "sub clan" and help them out AND get a benefit from those players if they make it to 40 is a good thing.
And I also felt that Rappelz graphics didn't blow Lineage 2 out of the water even though l2 is 3 yrs old. I play(ed )both on high.
I tried Rappelz and deleted it. Now, I haven't gotten to a high level in Rappelz so perhaps I am missing something. But I felt it was a bit Archlord in feeling, a bit unfinished and I didn't know why I was playing. So essentially I just didn't get into it. On top of that, if I remember correctly the character customization seemed more limited than L2! (which is saying something since L2 isn't customization heaven.)
But if you like Rappelz and feel that it is a superior game then more power to you.

Yes you are right, the Rappelz graphics do not blow L2 out of the water. I believe they use the same engine. But Rappelz has improved it. Compared to the static low quality L2 trees, Rappelz has beautiful swaying trees with beautiful leaves, swaying grass in some areas and a bigger viewing distance.

Well, of course it's really unfair to do a direct comparison as L2 has been out for 3+ years or so and has had time to really develope.
But the L2 marketers really need to get the word out as well as evolve the L2 sieges.
I think you are right about Rappelz using the same engine. Or at least a similiar way of using textures? There were simliarities. Though that other game (that evades my memory) that is essentialy "L2 in Space" also seems to be very similiar (and I can't remember what it's called!)

I haven't ever played Lineage 2, but I played Lineage 1 like 5 years ago and loved the castle siege system. I'm currently playing LOTRO and love it, but it lacks the amazing PvP that I like.

I have not played Lineage 1, but I have played Lineage 2. So yes in Lineage 2 you have the awesome pvp with clan wars & castle sieges.
You also have castle sieges and wars in Rappelz, although Rappelz is a rather new game as it was released last November, so the higher end game is not as complete yet. It just got arenas and guild alliances recently (about 1 month ago?). The Epic 4 game update is coming later this month and will improve upon all this (it is also bringing the 2nd profession change).
In rappelz you get castle sieges and general pvp on all the servers, like L2; but there is also 1 sever specially labeled as "pvp" with free pvp rules.
But yes, there is grind. So if you don't like grindy games, probally not the one for you. The PvP is great tho... The community is generally awesome! the US servers and Europa hardly has any players, just look at some servers they praticliy dead, the big market is in Korean Japan, but not here because the company dosen't care about us...

it's not that great people in a strong clan's has it so much esaier then someone in a weaker clan, and bla bla it has it's ups and defintly also it downs...

very few do waste they time on pet's cause they are rather bad and hard to lvl, but defintly not useless in all situations for instance with my bishop and wolf i could beat a equal lvl nuker good times... but atm they is 4 Mounts in L2 the 3 Strider's who are very similiar, Dusk Wind and Star witch every player can get and Wyvern's can also be used from some clanhalls now.

When looking at Lineage 2 as compared with similiar, free, asian mmo's, L2 is far more polished and has more substance. It is a world where people actually talk about the conflicts in game on the forums (both official and unofficial).
It is a game where being in a clan matters and being in an alliance can matter more.
It is an extremely good game with various issues. It is also a very hard game. You are either a Lineager 2 player or you are not.
If the OP is interested in fun quests and signing into the new player lands ready to party up then this is not your game. The quests suck and the new player areas are very low population. IN this game the idea is not to stay in the new player areas but to level up and join a clan and take part in the world.
But you really have to be dedicated. You really have to make your own way. And the economy is very hard which of course helps promote the farmer issue.
And I'm sorry but Rappelz felt a bit "junky" to me. Text oddities (formatting) for one. It felt like Lineage 2 "light"
You probably have not played Rappelz since the last updates. You are judging a game on text formating ? I judge gameplay, and graphics. The game is new and improving with each update. And it is also free 2 play
Yes as I said L2 is 3 years old, Rappelz was release last november. So like any other new mmo the higher level play is not as complete. Castle sieges & guild alliances are already in with the last couple updates and Epic 4 is coming later this month to improve upon this.
Anyway if the OP wants to take part in clan wars / castle sieges it will take him at least 6 (very hardcore) to 8 months minimum to get to the required levels.
Rappelz has better pets (many pets, L2 pets are so bad nobody uses them), better/more quests, better graphics (especially outside the cities),..
Apart from the higher end game play (as I said above) rappelz is a much more complete game. Like L2 there is "friends + grind", but there is more to it in Rappelz.
You will only have fun in L2 if you are in a good clan with good friends. Otherwise it sucks. Well, its just like all of the mmorpgs. But in many mmorpgs, this includes Rappelz, there is also some fun for solo people.
L2 is of course a very good game, but not worth the subscription money compared to the free rappelz. It's the same look and feel.
I have played L2 for 1,5 year, had 1 high lvl and 1 lvl 56 (edit: still have, I am still subscribed). High end play (you get there in 8 months minimum) is more polished and the world is bigger as the game is 3 years old. Yes, maybe some more overall polish (of course you pay for it). Apart from that I don't see what is better in L2.
But then in L2 you have the totally ruined economy, the 50% bots,...

Text formatting makes the game feel "junky" to me. Looks sloppy. I also felt that the game seemed very generic to me.
Free means nothing to me as I would gladly pay double what I pay for any game I felt was worth it.
You do bring up a good point in that Lineage 2 requires quite some time to get to "a good place", you have to belong to a clan/alliance and L2 pets are horrible. That will be changing in the next update but the point is still valid.
But that is why I said "you are either a Lineage 2 player or not. The new academy system where clans can invite lower lvl players into a sort of "sub clan" and help them out AND get a benefit from those players if they make it to 40 is a good thing.
And I also felt that Rappelz graphics didn't blow Lineage 2 out of the water even though l2 is 3 yrs old. I play(ed )both on high.
I tried Rappelz and deleted it. Now, I haven't gotten to a high level in Rappelz so perhaps I am missing something. But I felt it was a bit Archlord in feeling, a bit unfinished and I didn't know why I was playing. So essentially I just didn't get into it. On top of that, if I remember correctly the character customization seemed more limited than L2! (which is saying something since L2 isn't customization heaven.)
But if you like Rappelz and feel that it is a superior game then more power to you.

Same for me. I still have my L2 subscription even if I don't play it anymore, and didn't mind paying for Vanguard and Lotro either (but these 2 games' fighting system was just to bad compared to L2/Rappelz).Yes the L2 clan system is top notch. Rappelz is still improving.

Compared to the static low quality L2 trees, Rappelz has beautiful swaying trees with beautiful leaves, swaying grass in some areas and a bigger viewing distance.

Well, of course it's really unfair to do a direct comparison as L2 has been out for 3+ years or so and has had time to really develope.
But the L2 marketers really need to get the word out as well as evolve the L2 sieges.
I think you are right about Rappelz using the same engine. Or at least a similiar way of using textures? There were simliarities. Though that other game (that evades my memory) that is essentialy "L2 in Space" also seems to be very similiar (and I can't remember what it's called!)

Maybe I should have added a new thread for this question, but are there any MMORPG's that have awesome PvP like lineage? I haven't ever played Lineage 2, but I played Lineage 1 like 5 years ago and loved the castle siege system. I'm currently playing LOTRO and love it, but it lacks the amazing PvP that I like.
Any suggestions?

You also have castle sieges and wars in Rappelz, although Rappelz is a rather new game as it was released last November, so the higher end game is not as complete yet. It just got arenas and guild alliances recently (about 1 month ago?). The Epic 4 game update is coming later this month and will improve upon all this (it is also bringing the 2nd profession change).
In rappelz you get castle sieges and general pvp on all the servers, like L2; but there is also 1 sever specially labeled as "pvp" with free pvp rules.

it's not that great people in a strong clan's has it so much esaier then someone in a weaker clan, and bla bla it has it's ups and defintly also it downs...

very few do waste they time on pet's cause they are rather bad and hard to lvl, but defintly not useless in all situations for instance with my bishop and wolf i could beat a equal lvl nuker
good times... but atm they is 4 Mounts in L2 the 3 Strider's who are very similiar, Dusk Wind and Star witch every player can get and Wyvern's can also be used from some clanhalls now.
i recommend everyone to stay away from L2
