Hey Guys

This is my first post, seems like a good community :D, just figured I'd say Hi and ask a question.

I've never played a MMORPG before, and have been excited for the release of WoW.  But I was thinking I might try one for a few months, so I'm not a complete MMORPG newb when WoW comes out.  I'm just torn as to what one to try.

AO - Seems cool, I like the Sci-Fi, but I hear it is repetitive.

CoH - Super Heroes are cool :D, but no items or PvP.  I was kinda leaning toward this, b/c I hear there isn't enough depth to keep you hooked very long, just enough till WoW maybe :)

SWG - I'm a fan of SW, and it seems to have much more depth than just killing monsters.  But I hear it is still kinda buggy and everyone is just trying to be a Jedi.

FFXI - I see a lot of people saying they hate it, but never giving a reason.  I like FF, so this was a logical candidate.

I would love some feedback from some people who have played these games.  Of course I will try the free trials before I buy, but that is a lotta stuff to D/L, so just wanted to slim down the pack :)  And when is WoW coming out anyway? I hear September, and I plan on waiting about a month after it is released to buy it, so bugs can get worked out, and see what the reaction is to it.  So I will have about 4-5 months the play any of these games, if that should make a difference in which would be best for me.

Well, AO seemed great when I played it, plenty of places to go the grind does get repetitive and the missions are virtually the same. But the community is great and makes it fun.

SWG- The bugs aren't really horrible anymore but the focus for most people does seem to be becoming a Jedi or Bounty Hunter. But there are plenty of ways to have fun. There is also tons of content, if you are willing to explore.

Can't tell ya which is better but they are both good. Maybe this will help ya decide ::::38::

    It helped a bit yuuzahn.

I was reading some more about AO, and it seems like it is kinda difficult, maybe not the best for me since I'm new to MMORPG's.

My friend used to play SWG, so maybe I can talk him into playing again.  It would be a lot more fun with a friend playing :), so he could help me learn the game.

I also seem to have gotten him interested in CoH, so I think it is between those 2 now, its always better with a friend :)

I think I'll D/L those 2 trials soon, have dial-up now, but getting DSL in the next 2 weeks...YAY.

You say you're waiting for WoW anyways right? Well, people seem to consider CoH (City of Heroes) a part-time game anyways, something that will get them through until the WoW/EQII release dates, so if you get into that game, you might even make some friends that will transfer over to WoW!

Although I have not played CoH, I hear only good things, and if it does lack depth... well, it is only part-time game anyways hahaha.

So thats my suggestion. Good luck deciding.

Not really sure on the whole depth issue for CoH, but since you are only playing this MMORPG for a couple of months, I'd say you should try it out, I think you will still be satisfied with it before WoW comes out, and when in doubt, just play an FPS or play free trials to satisfy you. From what I've heard, I think CoH would be a great choice to try out the whole MMORPG realm.

I would try DAOC if I was you. It is still one of the best MMORPG's out to current date although I quit playing due to burnout ( was a tester there for 2 years) It was my favorite of them all and I have played everything out there. It's cheap for the basic game as well right now and a free 7 day trial and you can forget about the 2 expansions if you want plenty of content in the original to keep you busy for a few months.

Thanks for the help guys, I think it's gonna be CoH.  I'll look into DAoC too see if it interests me.

I'd have to say CoH. Check out the review corpsnews has on CoH. If the game can impress them, despite having no PvP, its gotta have something going for it =)

From what I've heard, its a really fun game, but likes the depth to keep more hardcore gamers interested for more than 4-6 months.

sounds like you'd be in love with dark age of camelot. thats the first mmorpg i've ever played, by far the best. nothing is comparative to the RVR DAoC has.

I'm sure they all eventually get repetitive, but I was mainly talking about depth.  CoH is just fighting, which is enough to tide me over until WoW, but some depth is good.  Like PvP, Some kind of crafting/gathering/cooking some kind of secondary skill that you don't have to fight to level.  WoW should have this stuff, so I'll be happy then :D  I talked my friend into getting CoH, so I should be playing it by the end of next week.
