WoW player looking for a new game

crk21x3crk21x3 Member Posts: 8

Hey, I have been playing WoW since release and been getting bored with WoW and even when the expansion hit I felt it was a new game and not the game I one loved before, now I played CoH and CoV along with 3 other MMORPGS and I gave EQ2 a try and bought that expansion that gave you all in one and didn't really give it a good chance, partially since I was in a raiding guild in WoW but was wondering what are the key differences between WoW and EQ2? how's the community, guilds, professions etc.

Thanks for reading,

Chris.

EQ2 is a great game. You'll have many races and professions to choose from, and there is no limitations. Races don't matter as much in gameplay, just asthetics, so have fun with it. You have your standard fighters, healers, scouts and mages. The community is great and helpful. Guilds are a little more cohesive in EQ2 because you actually put something into your guild. You can raise guild level and status, and get neat little extras from it.

Get out there and bash some heads, try some things, and see how you like it. If you liked WoW, EQ2 is pretty similar. I like it because of the graphics and depth of the play. Plus, it isn't specifically built around combat. You have all sorts of things to choose from and do.

I just came to EQ2 from WOW, after trying many different MMO's, and I have to say that it is pretty good, I'm enjoying it a lot. the graphics are good, the combat system is very solid, the community is very helpful.

I would definitely encourage you to give it a good try

Dont listen to lord, he's an anti-fan boi here to preach an inacurrate word about EQ2.

I came from WoW and was a hardcore raider, like you, and I've tried out 9 other MMO's past level 40 now and I have settled to this one. This is like WoW but just a bit different and, imo, things are here that were lacking in WoW - But it goes both ways.

Just give it a shot and see how it is, you might just like it because it's something different.

Give it a try, you'll like it. There are lots of former WoW players playing, so as long as you don't mind a bit of playful kidding about WoW from time to time, you're good to go. There's a great community in EQ2.

I just started EQ2 over a week ago and am really having a blast. I really like the motions of the weapons. I'm playing a Zerker and using a staff right (best weapon found so far) now. What's cool is the avatar actually technically knows how to use a staff with various moves in battle.

Yes indeed try it you will have fun I'm sure. I would recommend to start the first toon on the old "Isle" tutorial as that one explains the game much better than the one starting in kelethin so start the first toon in either Q or FP just for the tutorial, I have not seen the new Neriak one but that can be recommended too as there is a lot of new characters being started there. But its not difficult and the major sites has good guides to commands and so. There is a link of all the combat arts and skills here:

It was on the official forums before but is gone now.

You will find that EQ2 is slightly more complex and that it has a slightly slower leveling speed than WoW, there are also a bit more things to do and the world is a lot bigger. Also EQ2 is designed to be a more group centered game than WoW the best xp and the best loot in EQ2 comes from grouping in dungeons. But you can solo your way all to 70 if you want too. Most players solo to 20 and after that start to go to the first dungeons (Stormhold and Fallen Gate both very fun Zones). Also please remember that you get discovery xp in EQ2 so it is actually worthwhile to spend time exploring new zones and places. The road to 70 is very fun with a lot of good zones and places to go to,  and all zones has some NPCs that hands out quests usually these are for the mobs you will hunt anyway in that zone so the net gain can be very good.

I do not know anything on the raiding scene of WoW so no comments there, most servers has a healthy raiding community look on the individual server boards for more info. As always do not roll a plate tank as first toon if you are aiming at raiding. The community in EQ2 is usually better than WoW so you will have no problem there.

    Have Fun!
