You might want to read up on the autolock too as it's an autostick to help X360's, not a full autolock.
Reading GOOD. Judgemental ignorance BAD And, well, there's a huge difference between the WoW style of stand-still-and-fire-without-looking and TR... Go read up.
Actually, no, there is both. Perhaps you should go read up.
"The controls did feel a lot like playing an FPS, but without worrying about bunny hopping or too much aim. The target reticule "sticks" onto your target as long as you keep it mostly centered; you can "lock" it in place with the TAB key, too, and you won't lose your target as long as they are on your screen."
As you can see from the article, it features both. The auto-stick is fine with me. This isn't an FPS, so pin point accuracy should not be needed. On the other hand, a key that voids all aiming allowing you to 'lock' it in place? No skill needed, big problem.
Like I said in another thread though, I'm starting to think the MMORPG article is just poor writing. It either is not explaining how it works in full detail (along the lines of how fjorn was describing), or just has the facts plain wrong. I'm willing to wait until more facts come out before I rant anymore

I am also sure that if you are this willing to complain about a game because of one pet problem, that is not even an issue considerng how the targetting in the game actually works, and this willing to start an argument about it before you have even tried it for five seconds.... Then they will probably be more than happy if you avoid TR and go someplace else.
HA, I knew someone would say that. Just for arguments sake then, if they added a button to instant heal so that you can never die, and people complained that it MIGHT unbalance the game a bit, would you still be going "OMG it's just one problem, ONE PROBLEM! Have you even PLAYED the game yet? NO! So then go play (X game) nooby McNoobster!".
I don't think the tab completely eliminates the need to aim, at least that isn't my understanding. I take that to mean more along the lines of you'll continue tracking the unit so long as it remains on the screen so you'll always be able to follow it and aim to continue shooting.
I'm not sure if that is how it works or not, but that would seem to make sense to me.
mr fubar I know exactly what you're talking about and you've got the idea ALL WRONG.
I don't think the "lock" helps you in the way you think it does. What the "lock" does, is lets say there's 3 guys coming at you. You wanna keep firing at the first guy, but because of the way you're moving, your reticle is on the 2nd guy. If you have the first guy "locked" then you'll keep firing at him instead of having your "selected target" jump over to the 2nd guy. This doesn't help you in any way other than it keeps your selection on the same target. If your reticle isn't on the guy, you'll still be doing minimal damage. You may still hit him, but you won't do anywhere near as much damage.
Or atleast, that's what I gather.
Problem solved mr fubar.

Just to put a few things out there, it seems that not all the weapons have a lock-on ability. The Curse article noted that with the shotgun was different because it didn't feature it and you can probably assume for some other AoE weapons like the flamethrower. A beta user reported that turning off the sticky aiming gives the player an advantage. Monsters have weak spots that can't be hit if you are using the sticky aiming.
tell that person quit tellin people things it's in the agreement....ummm i have not played it but like u said some one thats rlly retarted and gonna get banned for tellin told me that u can turn of auto-lock....its does give u an advantage like headshots....i wonder if u hoot their legs will they fall or limp..... :] i guess we'll see
on my wii so i'll keep it short. watch the garriot interview at tabularasa.com it explains the lag issues and why auto-lock is necessary. if anyone else said oops, but watch it AGAIN!
According to ppl which is in beta: this game dont have auto-lock. if you press tab it only "highlight" your enemy.. but u still must force your "crosshair" aim to enemy and then fire.
The whole combat system is very close to neocron.
edit: btw DDO have system where you can aim manually which is good and give u advantages, but yes, you can lock and fire automatically.. which completely suxx because low rate of fire and low dmg..

It gives you a feeling of normal mmorpgs with some FPS elements in it.
It also prevents people from creating Aimbots as there allready is a kind of Auto Aim.
i rock!
