Best voice chat software for MMORPG? Ventrilo or Xfire?

Hi everyone, i just wanted to hear a few opinons on which voice chat software you would recommend for use with MMORPG game, namely Cabal online. Im looking for the software with the lightest CPU usage, lightest bandwith usage and good quality. Overally the one which gives the best gaming experience. Ive narrowed it down to 2 at the moment: ventrilo and xfire, but you could add another one if you think it's better. Maybe pros and cons of each software? thnx for yr help

I find XFire rather useful for a 1on1 voice communication. For a group I'd suggest Ventrillo :)

I find a keyboard the best communication for immersion sake.

Ventrilo works really well but it won't support more than 5 players unless you have a server to operate it. Teamspeak on the other hand has no limit to the amount of players that can connect; if your comp can maintain it, then they can connect. This is the only downside I see for Ventrilo.

I always use Vent on a public server.

Less lag, and it's always easy and good.

Ventrillo cost $, but is the best of the services listed.

Put it this way, using Xfire, who ever initiates the conversation, IS the server machine.

That depends on what you can pay. If you have interests in buying a voice communication server, I can suggest to use ventrilo. If not, you can just stick with Xfire.

I prefer Ventrilo myself. Voices sound alot better on it than TS.

Find someone who has a vent server that will let you use it or else as someone stated above you will have to pay.  If i host a server myself i can get only about 6-8 ppl before it goes haywire.  It's not that expensive to rent a server but, luckily i know a bunch of WoW and ex-daoc players that still have servers so i just hop on those when i play DOTA or CS.

Teamspeak is a far better program than xfire voice chat or ventrilo.  With ventrilo, if you try to talk at the same time as someone else, you get horrid feedback in your speakers.  Xfire is good but it isn't practical for a clan or guild to use.  My clan, the Sith Commandos, has been using teamspeak for almost 3 years now, and have no trouble with it.  It is a little expensive, but it is worth the money if you wish to communicate with more than a few other people.   It doesn't distort peoples' voices too badly, and although it doesn't sound as "real life" as ventrilo, it is more user friendly, with a better interface that is much more developed and less raw, than vent

I prefer Ventrilo far more than TS2 or anything else.  The only benefit of TS2 is that I can browse server lists to hijack a random server for me and my friends to use.

Otherwise, the sound quality of Vent is miles ahead of TS2, takes up less memory, and in general - a much more streamlined program.  It does what it's supposed to do, and does not need to cater to be more user friendly.

    I haven't tried X-fire.

Roger Wilco is the 56ker's best friend.

The sound quality is higher on Teampseak and higher still on Ventrilo.

Ventrilo has more compatability issues.  A higher % of your mates will be unable to use it because of hardware related technical issues.

I use Teamspeak because it is free and easy.

As others have said Ventrillo is the best for a group play such as Guild Wars or W.O.W. But for one on one you should get xfire or be like me and have both plus 1023458239629374521345 other chat things because people are to lazy to make a good universal chat system.

Do not go for xfire if you want low CPU usage, I get massive lag when I'm on EQ2 on voice chat, but without voice chat, no lag at all.

    Teamspeak is the best ;)

Ventrilo is by far my favorite if you are going to be renting a server (which I recommend).  If you are looking for a place that is (relatively) low cost to rent from you should check out nationvoice.com, I've used them for a few years and they have awesome support (though I rarely needed it) and the best prices I found.  Also have almost no downtime and plenty of locations so you can get the best spot for you.

Both Vent and TS are excellent if you set them up properly.

If you're only going up to 4 people, you could also consider Skype.

I haven't tried the xfire voice chat yet.

I have to agree. The rather small improvement you get using Vent on voice "sound" isn't worth the cost over FREE of TeamSpeak.

"Ventrilo sounds better then TS" Actually it doesn't. Me and some friends have been using both services for a while

and we all agree that TS has the best sound quality. This has also been discussed on different forums

where people claim Ventrilo to sound better but when it comes down to testing / proof TS always seems

    to be the champ.

I'm supporting Ventrillo all the way. I've used it for years and it's never let me down.

for you VENT vent is very simple but effective VC prog.

I USE TS because well its sounds 10000% times better but vent is nice for 2 things a shot load of people (because the mute, etc. features work well), and 2 it is easy to run.

I use TS because i rarely need more than 12 people and only friends use it.
