Comparing Horizons to VG.....

SWGLoverSWGLover Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 539

This is just an observation of mine, but I think that it's valid.

I watched the trainwreck that was Horizons for years. The under-handed selling of the game by the DEV's to avoid paying their just debts, the chronic and wide spread double billing leading to State Attorney General's getting involved....you get the picture. The game being released *far* too early with mostly missing content...I could go on and on.

And yet, through out all the obvious underhanded deals and countless broken promises ( read lies, sorry, I call them as I see them.. ) by the DEV's, the fans of that broken game keep spouting how the game was posed to "take off" and how the next owners would bring it to glory.

These deluded posts went on for years, flying in the face of facts. The fans just could *never* seem to let go and held on to every promise, no matter how many were broken in the past.

And this brings us to VG. I'm seeing the same deluded fan mind-set ( and actually, I'm seeing the same *fans* ) in the VG posts that I saw in Horizons. And the irony of seeing the old Horizon fans now defending VG provides a degree of humor that's priceless.

And my question is ( after all that... ) , are there just certain fans that are attracted to badly broken games? Is it something in some of the fans psyche to like underdog games that are doomed to fail? Do they just overlook logic and facts and say "this game is cool, I don't  care what the facts are....now off to defend my wounded love on the forums?

    Well...

Most peoples who try Horizons didn't hate it.  A good many of them even like it.  They have some rabid fanbois, but I wasn't biten by any of them.

Most peoples who try Vanguard actually hate it.  A good many of them even call upon the Great Ancient Cthullu to get rid of Sigil & Brad and... SoE answers the call.  The rabid Vanbois have tried to bite me and actually ban me from some troll-sites, harassing me with personnal emails, direct insults and the like.  (Now I expect a Vanboi to pose as a Horizon fanboi to send me a personnal hatred email after reading this...whatever, FoH are d3 LVm3rzs!)

I actually think it was cool to play a Dragon and I love seeing the elder dragons played by other.   I don't like tradeskills so I never put any serious effort in the game, but if I would, I guess I would have tried more.  The community was nice and helpfull...unlike Vanguard hating community, full of *insert the worst word you can think of*s.

I really liked Horizons when I played it, the crafting system was the best. The only reason I stopped playing was because the player population was so low. It's just no fun for me to play a MMOG with hardly any one around. Might as well play a single box game.
