MMORPGs with no magic?

Hello,

Can anyone refer me to some good historical MMOs without magic in them or at least magic only in the lore rather than as a playable vocation ( I dont mind an occasional enchanted sword of evil or whatever i just dont like the kill somebody to 1 hp only to have them do a healing spell/fireball type endless magic gameplay)? I do medieval cruciform style fencing and archery and thats what got me into games like rome & medieval total war, I have tried a lot of mmorpgs but they all seem to have that magic/anime thing going on with flying sparkly bubbles and I just can't get into it and the communities seem a bit childish.

If anyone has played a game with a free demo called Mount & Blade, is there an online game similar to that? That would be a perfect MMO to me. I don't even care about graphics much so if its some 2d thing in beta that would interest me also, or an overhead format like the total war series etc. Id just like a roleplaying game where i could develop a character online minus all the magic bubbles and lightning bolts, preferably with VERY heavy severe death penalties to make it exciting. I'm looking into that roma victor game and most of the opinions Ive heard have been negative but hey, worth a try. Any other ideas though?

Thanks.

When you think about, there really are not that many mmo's to play or choose from atm. the majority of them are slop jobs that were just put together to try to make a quick buck. you can proably count the amount of quality mmo's that people actually play on 2 hands.

WW2 online would fit that description, but i consider that game a slop job. dont even waste your time on it, i doubt its even played any more.

EvE would kind of fit that description, but eve is a very in depth mmo and you really have to be willing to spend a lot of time with it if you want to play. i would be playing eve but its just to time consuming for me.

i think im kind of like you, i want to play a mmo but there are really non to play becuase there are not that many out yet which are quality games. I would suggest that you look into a game called Pirates of the burning sea http://www.potbs.com its not out yet, but it looks amazing and you would probaly enjoy it. but its going to be a more linear game not sandbox like swg is, age of conan is going to be the next quality sandbox mmo but thats magic power category.

Yeah pretty much, d&d online, WoW, guild wars, LOTR, EQ, daoc, vanguard, archlord, runescape, eq2, knight online, etc etc etc all felt like the same game to me and I give up on mainstream MMOs. warhammer looks like same old as well, and worst of all, so does conan, worst of all because im a huge robert e howard fan and it seems his legacy will be brought even lower than those cheesy post-death novels/comics/movies brought it (didnt think that was possible). People need to learn with modern political correctness and hate speech laws they cant repeat his style no matter how "adult" they claim it will be, every update i see it looks more like another generic MMO. Darkfall: I admit darkfall looks good but again, magic and minotaurs and stuff, I cant get my hopes up, I fully expect it to gradually announce original risky feature A has been replaced with EQ clone feature B then launch quietly and die. If it was released with the features they list now plus heavy death penalties id probably love it.

Oops, disgruntled mmo player rant, sorry,

Ill check out that burning sea games website, thanks,

    anyone else?

I'm in the same boat as you regardless of the game, all the fantasy stuff ends up looking and feeling the same. It's so bad right now that I went back to playing SWG for a while. I would agree with the above poster, Pirates to me looks like the next sleeper hit kinda like Eve was. Beta will drasticly be expanded in early July and there are a few ways to get beta keys now that pretty much gurantee an invite in July.
