POLL: Which MMO has the best crafting system?

Hi guys,
I've been wanting to ask this for a while now. I have played WOW, Vanguard, EVE and  few trials with LOTR etc and was wondering what the consensus is about crafting. For me personally, is not my focus, but it is an important part of my game. If its done well, it adds that little extra something to the overall experience. Done badly, it can ruin a games economy and hence the entire game.
So, take any upcoming MMO you can think of and insert another games crafting system into it...which one would it be? I made a poll below with some games in the "out now" list, but I may have missed your favourite. If your vote is for other, could you tell me the game you like best
Thanks

The poll results are coming along, but they are a bit shocking to me. I would have guessed Shadowbane as the leader in this area of MMO games, but SWG is by far the winner so far. Why is that? Is it because of the sheer number of items you can make, or just the "way" you manufacture them?

EvE as my top list. The crafting is semi-realistic. Second in my list is Ryzom, no regret.

All canceled. Waiting on Warhammer Online : Age of Reckoning.

I voted SWG as its quite interesting the way you make them; i never liked a crafter but in SWG i became one after improving it was such good work that you should putting in it, as harvesting resources at your own, creating the schematics, the industry for them and a long etc that was involved on it.

EVE is the second better crafty one for me. I wanted to be a crafter there too, but the bpo's scandal was my main reason for quitting. Anyway when the things get clarified about the issue maybe i'm returning there; i still dream on my crafter rookie .

Both the only games where i have liked to be a Crafter. The other ones just bored me on that side.

It is a question of fangs.

    SWG!

It would have been interesting to seperate SWG pre-CU and NGE, as they simplified and pretty much destroyed the best crafting system and economic structure in a game ever.

Naturally, I'm going to go with SWG too.

Crafting can be a full time profession in the game and is for many. You don't ever have to be involved in combat if you don't want to and the system is involved enough that you don't need to if you want to have something to do. Since the economy the game is entirely player run, it's also a different form of PvP.

As I write this, I am downloading the trial of SWG. If I like it, I'm going to buy the lastest "all in one" pack from Amazon. Its only £14 and I need something to play that will keep my interest going in MMOs

I would say Ultima Online. Why? Because you were free to do anything. You could chop a three, make a stool and sit on it. You clould mine some iron, and make a sword. And you were actualy able to sell those items (as people needed swords and furniture and so on...), not unlike, for example, in WoW, where crafters can make the best usable items only for themselves (almost all of 'em) so there's no way they can make any profit out of it.

So, UO for me, there is.

The Trial is probably no indepth enough to show you the crafting system. Unfortuantely, this is due to the credit sellers that were taking advantage of the previous full trial of the game and spamming popular areas of the game with addresses to their websites. They're currently altering the way trial accounts work so that spammers can't do this but for now the solution is that all trial accounts are restricted to the introduction station.

This isn't as bad for combat professions as it is for crafters because alot of the crafting system you can't see unless you're on the ground, such as the resource system and factory based crafting which are some of the main parts of crafting in SWG.

As for the NGE killing crafting in SWG, I have to disagree. I'm near a full time crafter and have been for the last 2 years. I make millions of credits on a daily basis from selling my crafted goods. The depth of the crafting has been added onto with both Chapter 5 and 6. The introduction of Beast Master introduced 26 new craftable items into the game that are distrubuted amoungst all the crafting professions. Each of these items have multiple lines of experimentation and rely on multiple stats of varying resources.

I agree on simplified if you mean its easy'r to get xp, but to make a statement they destroyed it proofs you havn't played it lately, i'm a trader and most things i could make as either a Architect/DroidEgnineer i still can make in the exact same order of materials and resources i used when pre-cu-SWG, it took me some time to get back into SWG as i had just like many here this small mind set with always thinking about the past and now i can look beyoind that with a open-mind honostly crafting hasn't changed that much though it is absolute much easy'r to lvl as pre-cu-swg was a terrible grind, but at the time i played time wasn't that importent as i could spend lots of time in it. Times has changed and for me who hasn't that awefull lot of ingame time these day's its suites about right

Yeah, I don't like that about WOW either, and I don't like the limit to 2 profs either. I can understand a limit is needed somewhere, but it should be in specialisations or something similar. Anyone should be able to mine or collect herbs, but maybe not the top end real precious stuff.

I just think levelling up profs then discarding them, as I have done a lot, only to retake the same ones months down the line is a bit hard to take. I like the idea of not only crafting something, but having to "craft" the infrastructure to make the item possible... like someone said earlier: You want to make something, its need metals, and plans, and tools to make it, and you can craft all those things to get the final result. It would have a more in depth feel.

Your statement regarding WoW is not entirely accurate. High lvl Armor sets, Jewelry and Pots that can be made and sold all via the AH, some for huge profit.

That's just 3 for example there are many more....

Even though in WoW you could make alot of money by selling your crafted goods its outside of this threads topic. WoW does not have the best crafting system as a matter of fact its actually pretty lame and not well thought. You could get better gear from pve than the stuff that you craft, the best gear around should always be player crafted so it makes the crafting worth it.

For those that picked wow as the best crafting system I wonder if they even played any other MMOs.

    Wurm Online.

You have no idea what crafting is until you build your first home from the ground up.

You can't group EQ1 and EQ2 as a single choice, they are completely different.

Horizons is still the best and it's not on your list.

Sorry about that, I have not played them, but felt I had to add them as they are so well known and popular with the old guys. My first MMO was WOW, so I am a relative newcomer (about two and a half years of play)

Does this mean current SWG system is bad, or only inferior to the old SWG system? Do you still like the current one and is it fun?
