....borrowed from SWG in my next MMO.
1. the waypoint system
2. email system but with item transfer
3. the crafting system (I can't believe no one has copied this yet!)
4. resources and harvesting
5. dedicated crafting profs (not some kind of secondary prof to your main combat role)
6 encumbrance and weapon damage types
Anyone have anything else?

See you in the dream..
The Fires from heaven, now as cold as ice. A rapid ascension tolls a heavy price.
Creature Handler:
Multiple pets out
A wide variety of pet specials
CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested.
Once a denizen of Ahazi
I think I would like to see :
1. Creature Handler with pets with spical attacks spical to the creature type. If you want to mix and match then add in a form of Bio Engineer.
2. Doctor and entertainer like professions that heal wounds you recieve in combat.
3. Yes I know houseing has been done in other games so not sure it can not be from swg. Was nice haveing multi floor houseing and all the different items you could place in them.
4. I second the carfting and harvesting vote.
5. Skill system and no levels would be my favorite thing. Guess I should have made this one number one
6. Damage resists on targets with about the same number of damage types weapons could do.
7. I know it could not be done for copyright reasons but would really like to see driods that were useful in a game. Still remeber useing my repair driod and power driod fixing driods. Still not sure why they turned off the repair funcation.
I do not think I made a list that made much sense but hope it is not worded to badly.
1. Decay on ALL items.
2. Waiting for shuttles.
3. Player cities and player housing.
Hey, I love a indepth game with all those things in it, which is why I loved the original SWG so much. However, in todays games having all those things in them would increase the micromanagement of a game (look at how fun COx is without a lot of micromanagement) and a lot of gamers have shown they want to just log in, pick up a few levels quickly and painlessly and indulge in some kind of fun of their choosing.....SWG was changed because of how hard it was to keep all the above things working correctly and balanced and fair for all players of all levels. So there is my reason why other MMO's have not adopted some of SWG's awesome game systems and mechanics. SWG truely did make me feel like I was actually living a virtual game world...everything else just feels like, well, a game....however, sometimes SWG did feel like a second job, lol...but to me SWG opened the flood gates for true roleplaying because of it's detailed subsystems, mechanics and such. I mean you actually had things at your disposal, in game to represent different aspects of role play.....where most games, you still have to imagine things and that can be hard to portray to other players. There's a big difference in imagining you have a tamed rancor during roleplaying and actually having a tamed rancor and roleplaying...siggghhhh!
1.) Skill tree/profession with only color as level indicator (so we don't see the number)
2.) Craft system + resource implement (include the idea of resources shifting)
3.) CH pet system + mount system of which you can leave out your mount without mounting it.
4.) HAM bar (I actually like this idea since you don't see everyone with same number of health, which makes you pick your battle)
Current MMO: FFXIV:ARR
Past MMO: Way too many (P2P and F2P)
By the way, guess I'll add one.....
33+ professions that all have their little niche in the game....having so many professions was great, always kept me rolling new toons to tryout an develop.....plus is a nice change to having to grind through combat only.
Which brings up another aspect I'd like to see more of....
Being able to level non-combat professions through other means...like crafters in original SWG.
This is possible.
This is possible.
Can you give us some examples please?

Well that goes without saying!
However, I think we have to look elsewhere for a developer to get us out of this current stagnation of level/loot MMO's.
We all know SOE isn't capable anymore of trend setting like they were 4 years ago.
A lot of these have been said already, so I will have to pick the few things I would most like to see.
While these things are nice, I think the housing is pretty well done. The customization within the house and the fact housing isnt instanced make for more of an immersive experience in the game world.
I think ultimately, I think a copy of Pre-CU SW with a different skin and bugs fixed would be the ideal next MMO. Maybe some updates on a few things given the fact technology has advanced and thus new concepts might be more viable now.

Someone posted earlier in this thread that these systems were to complicated to keep up, I disagree they just never took the time to refine them and kill the bugs, some of which are still in the game (rubber banding anyone). I think it could work if you had a didicated dev team and if the suits would leave them alone long enough to fix some stuff, instead of trying to keep up with the Jones'(AKA-WOW).

This thread makes me sad... remembering all the things that made SWG great. Was able to get my Star Wars fix and MMORPG fix all at the same time.
Past: AC, AC2, DAoC, SWG, HZ, EVE, Ryzom, WoW, L2
Present: nothing
Future: Aion, AoC, PotBS
i would all that you all just put plus...
not being able to put houses on some planets.... example endor. that was cool pure hunting/ questing planets ect.
entertainer buffs and doc buffs with a non-afk macro allowed for it. this was cool because
a.you had to get in line.
b. you got to talk to the entertainer/ doc. i meet lots of friends with this. heck sometimes the doc would go out and hunt with me!
I totally agree about the planets. I loved when Dantooine was deserted and barren.
Just realize something...
I think this is also a good thing:
5.) crafter-made items can be named by players. That makes the game even more interesting...
Current MMO: FFXIV:ARR
Past MMO: Way too many (P2P and F2P)
Plus having the crafters name attached to it was pretty cool to.
Decay, complex crafting, and complex resource harvesting.
Complex crafting and complex resource harvesting were just phenomenal, and knowing how best to use your resources meant quite a bit. A decay, with said crafting and harvesting, really made quality crafters important to the game as a whole. I would be interested in any game with similar systems that isn't associated with $OE, even if it had orcs-n-elves.
