I'm not really a huge fan of PVP, but I do enjoy it if it fits into the context of the game...saying that...before I get crazy excited about this game, I need to know there will be a strong PVE part to it. I love a good story and just want to make sure I'm not going to be mindlessly running around killing people.
Thanks

As opposed to running around mindlessly killing AI?
Yes PvE is very important to the WAR movement. No capital city can be taken without people working on PvE quests to help the cause.
There has been released some info on one dungeon.

The public quests will be the greatest PvE you will ever experience, tbh.
They are open for anyone around to participate, and you work together with the community to finish a sort of story-line quest as I understand it (three parts maybe?). The rewards are then determined by your participation over the whole thing, of course you get the greatest rewards if you stick around for it all. It should be a fun deal, and great PvE.
I think that there will be a great deal of focus on PvE, although some might consider this a PvP game. It's been stated that the best way to level is creating a balance between doing PvE and PvP, although you can level doing just one.
Now I'm upset that I found this game so early...because I'm seriously excited about this game and I hate waiting and scratching and clawing for pieces of information...yay me
hehe, I bought a ps3 while I wait for warhammer :P You should do something like that :P
I've got a better idea.
I'm enjoying a social life as much as I can at the moment, because i know when WAR comes out, I wont be seeing said social life for quite awhile
gl for what ever you do!
The good thing about this game. They have stated you can level up to max level without ever engaging in pvp. Or even be attacked by another player. You just got to stay in the pve zones.
yes there is going to be a good story to it and the pvp will fit into the game
Yes and no.
Yes the PvE part is well developped and it occupy a HUGE part of the game (20%+?).
No, you won't be really happy with the PvE, as it will always pull you toward the PvP and the WAR. It will always pressure you to go into the PvP. Each PvE actions as an impact on the WAR. And finally, the best candies, they are to be obtainable while razing the enemy capital, which again bring you to PvP.
They put a LOT of efforts into PvE, they make it solid and strong, but it isn't warmth...you will always be striving to move out of it. Kinda like if what you do is not worth it; on any level, not even on the PvE level.
PvE in WAR is like a rehabilitation center, you don't want to stay there.

it really depends what you look for in pve. frankly, everything they have released about WAR pve is amazing. its like curing everything ive ever hated about other mmos pve.
ive never been big on story and lore and all that crap, but seriously, i HATE the quest that is go kill 10 bunnies. why the heck would the quest giver guy ever want the dead bunnies in the fist place, and if he wants them anyways, why wouldnt he go get them himself? between Public quests (which seems to be the most revolutionary thing to come to mmo pve in a while) and the other stuff, looks cool.
i forget what they call it, but basically it keeps a log of the stuff youve killed and all the areas you have visited and if you talk to a quest giver it will take that into account. i think the example given is a npc surrounded by bears and you slaughter 5000 bears, and you get to the npc and he tells you to go kill 10 bears. and you are covered in bear blood, with bits of bear clinging to you, so you go kill 10 bears. then the npc tells you that he didnt know you killed 10 bears, you gotta get 10 bear CLAWS.
if that isnt informative enough, go to their site and watch the quests podcast. (warhammeronline.com)
so even though i personally see an uber pvp game, it prolly has its pve perks.
As a quest/story fanatic and PvE fan myself, I'm definitely sympathetic to the OP's wants. That said, I could've sworn that one of the devs said (maybe in a recent podcast) that each race would have their own ongoing epic story arc that goes through all the tiers and tells a tale. I think they said the story would mostly be told through public quests, but I'm not sure - I may be hallucinating the whole thing.
Still, I hope I'm right, because having access to six unique storylines, not to mention the unique classes, quests, loot, enviroments, etc., would do a great deal for the game's longetivity.
Does anyone know if WAR will have bosses to kill for PvE players? I mean, killing other peeps is fine and all, but i would like to use some stratagy on some PvE bosses when i'm done killing and getting killed by other players in pvp zones
ah sweet sweet world bosses oh how i missed ya , Still, one thing i do like about WoW (yeah go figure ) is the instanced bosses u get to kill, i dunno if WAR has em, but i do love the world bosses specifcly for each race .

BOSS PROFILE-----Slaurith
http://mythicmktg.fileburst.com/war/us/media/newsletter/2007_05/WAR_Boss_Slaurith.jpg
"Even the most courageous hero can fall into darkness, and the noblest of intentions can be turned to evil purpose by the terrible will of the gods of Chaos.
So it was with Sir Luthor von Zakenhelm, once a Knight of the Blazing Sun who commanded a doomed expedition to seal the Chaos gate at the heart of the Bastion Stair. The Stair, a massive edifice far to the north that marks the boundary between the mortal world and the Realm of Chaos, proved too great a challenge for the brave members of the expedition. Those few who survived were forever changed.
Following whispers that promised unlimited strength and power, Sir Luthor strayed from the expedition and found his way to a great arena with walls of brass and red stone. A mighty Daemon was waiting within, and Sir Luthor took up his sword to do battle. When he had won, another, stronger Daemon took its place, and then another, and on it went.
Consumed by his lust for battle and his desire to conquer all foes, Sir Luthor made a dark pact with the Blood God. In exchange for converting the other knights to the ways of Khorne, von Zakenhelm would be made a Champion. His eyes burning with murderous rage, Sir Luthor hunted down the knights who had sworn loyalty to him. Some joined him, lured by the promise of power. Others refused, and paid with their lives.
All trace of the noble warrior who left the lands of the Empire behind to confront evil was now gone. Thus was born Slaurith, Champion of Khorne, who waits in his arena for a worthy challenger."
DUNGEON PROFILE --- Bastion Stair
"The Bastion Stair is more than just a passage between the mortal world and the realm of Khorne, the Blood God. It is a major Khornite bastion, and the site of the Rift of Rage, a powerful Chaos Portal whose power is growing, threatening to inundate the World of Warhammer with corrupting winds of magic. Intrepid adventurers from the forces of Order wish to capture this portal to put a stop to its destructive influence; the dark factions of Destruction want its power for themselves. However, all who mean to tamper with the Rift of Rage must face the horrifying Bloodthirster known as The Spineripper!"
For those who don't play the table-top game, here's a Bloodthirster:

Keep in mind that the Bloodthirster boss of the dungeon is many many times larger than a normal bloodthirster. So large, you're barely larger than his hoof.
Hope that revelaed a few specific PvE details for ya. I tell ya, before reading some of this or seeing the Quest Podcast I wasn't interested in the PvE at all--now I am lol
If you play WAR to pve I think you're going to hate end game. The farther you progress the less PVE content there is. According to their tier system anyway. Oh, and if you like to heal dont play WAR either, at least thats what Paul B. said
A misconception I'm seeing here in statements like "want to make sure I'm not going to be mindlessly running around killing people" and "killing other peeps is fine and all, but i would like to use some strategy on some PvE bosses when I'm done killing and getting killed by other players in pvp zones " is that PvP in WAR will be a pointless, chaotic skirmish.
One of the points the folks at Mythic have made repeatedly made is that most players hate meaningless PvP. Most players want something to fight over or an objective to pursue - they want motivation and concrete results. Why am I attacking this Dwarf keep? Why am I fighting people in this area? In WAR, the character is part of an army, with general orders in each area (the public and competitive quests) along with special missions. Those missions, both the PvE and PvP quests, are part of a grand storyline (three, types: charges - incidental quests; adventures - quest series that run several chapters within a tier; and epics - massive quest series' that run through the tiers and reveal parts of the grand storyline). Many of the PvP quests include PvE (in the final stages of a capital siege, for example, the players will need to locate and defeat 4 lieutenants of the enemy ruler before they can actually hunt down the ruler - all boss mobs - while the enemy tries to protect them).
WAR isn't about PvP. WAR is about RvR - achieving objectives and winning victory points for your realm so that you can occupy territory and push the battle lines closer to the enemy capital. To do that we pursue PvE and PvP quests, we struggle to capture and maintain control over a range of strategic objectives in each zone, and we fight in objective-based scenarios. PvP - hunting and killing other players' characters - isn't the point of RvR, it's just the fun that happens while we're pursuing our quests and objectives, and progressing through the grand storyline and the campaign.
The idea isn't to force you to PvP. They've stated over and over that "you can level all the way doing either" but "you'll be better off doing both." To that end they're doing everything in their power to make it comfortable and fun for PvE players to get involved in PvP and fun for PvPers to get involved in the PvE.
I'm just happy that what happens in PvP will directly effect the zones in which you fight etc. PvPing for honor points is mind numbing and dull, killing people for higher 2v2 ratings gets old and in no way effects the game outside that instance.
Meaningfully PvP(?) ftw.
As far as PvE goes, I like a good dungeon as much as the next guy but I would guess that most players are going over to WAR and AoC for the PvP. They've been highly advertised as PvP games so I know what to expect and I can handle not having PvE on the front burner.
agreed. in addition to this i gotta add that i think pve will run dirrectly into RvR, that the two will prolly intermix unless you try to avoid one or the other. the story line seems to include the inevitability that you will try to demolish the other race. if you are a dwarf, the other side includes the greenskin players. not just the npcs.
also i think that the major thing that most ppl have against pvp is that in most games (if not all of them) pvp is a mini game. you go in, and win or lose, it has absolutely no effect on the game. you go in and take over a city, and 20 seconds later its no longer yours bc then the other side doesnt have a city to use. and thats if the guards just dont respawn forever.
this is war. you will still need ppl cutting down trees for lumber, you will still need blacksmiths crafting swords, you will still need a mass #s of ppl to go into the depths of the world to slay huge 300 ft tall demons, and you need ppl to defend forts, and kill the enemy.
As said before PvE is important to progress.
What i say is you do the PvE while im just plainly slaughtering people on the battlefield.
Yo man fuck you! If you cant handle the PVP then either man up or play lotr/wow. We dont need care bears unbalancing this game just becuase you couldnt handle being ganked.
Wow.... talk about uncalled for. I'm a huge fan for PvP (RvR in this case) but I also love PvE. I'm sure they will have a fair amount of good PvE content through out. They confirmed 3 dungeons (or was it 6) that will be out (I believe on release they will all be out). Also one has something to do with Nurgle, one of the 4 Chaos gods (disease, decay, despire, and destruction that sounds fun!).

Agreed, we really don't need people like Epeen playing WAR....
