I, like many others before me, have canceled my wow account for good. I've been spending the last couple of days reading around searching for a game with a solid community and enjoyable gameplay. It seems to me like EQ2 has been at the end of every road. My question to the community, or at least the part that reads the forums, is it possible for someone, more specifically me, to get into EQ2 this late in the game?

Definitely not too late.
They recently added the city Neriak as a new starting city, so if you want to play an evil character there's likely to be lots of other newbies around in that area. The last expansion included a new starting area for good races and the next expansion will include another starting city for evils. SOE are all about creating a better and more enticing newbie experience at the moment, to try and entice new players.
The game play itself is more streamlined that some other games. I've played both EQ1 and DAOC on occasion, and in both of those there are loads of features that are hanging around from different expansions, resulting in quite a bit of confusion for a new player as they try to understand why there are multiple different ways to get quests etc. There's hardly any of that in EQ2.
There's an incredible amount of content, but you don't have to complete it all. As they add more to the game it becomes about choices rather than adding steps to the ladder. For example, if you wanted, you could completely skip the 2nd expansion (Desert of Flames) now, as there is content elsewhere to cover those levels (personally, I wouldn't, simply because I enjoyed the setting).
And when you consider that EQ1 is on its 13th (?) expansion now, and EQ2 only has its 3rd, there's probably a long life left in the game yet.
Good to hear.
As far as the expansions go, do I need to buy all three in order to play, or is there a package that includes all three?
Hello.
First, if you need some one to play with, join me on Antonin Bayle - msg me here.
Second, Echoes of Faydwer have ALL expansions in one.

WoW and fast food = commercial successes.
I neither play WoW nor eat fast food.
Sent you a PM, and bought echoes. Hope to see some of you in game, thanks for the help!
It is never to late. I just started playing WoW agian myself while I wait for the next expansion in EQ2. The game really defines itself when you start raiding. The teamwork and strategy involved to take down end game mobs is nothing like I have seen so far in any other game. Good luck and i hope you enjoy it.
I'm just starting Everquest II again. Really, in no MMORPG is it ever too late to start, except for a game like EVE where skills require time to learn, therefore everyone who has played before you has the upperhand.
I started off with just the Kingdom of Sky package but I ordered Echoes of Faydwear as well. That is definately the best option for you since it costs $40 and includes the game and all expansions, like some other people said. Anyways, have fun playing... it's definately improved a ton since I last played .
Actually the release of EoF, and a couple of the patches and updates was the "Rebirth" of EQ2, It's like a completely new game, and it's great. There are tons of low level players in the low level areas and you'll almost always find a group for whatever you want to do. Also, It seems that there has be a slight influx of players recently, and it seems the game is really catching on. There is going to be another expansion released in Nov 07 along with a "skeletol update" which is for all new character models and armor sets to make them more "exciting" i'm guessing, not that the armor sucks now.
