If Everquest was scheduled to shut down, would you log in one more time?

I would.

It would be hard to see it go.  I'd want to revisit all the zones that are stuck in my memories, as a 2nd childhood.  I haven't had a sub for that game in years, and I seriously doubt if I'd ever play it again.  But to me, no other game has built that same sense of atmosphere, mood, and emotions that I once got from EQ.

This video really expresses that sense of losing the game you once loved so much:

Anyway, just thought I'd see what others thought.  In the recent light of closings, such as Auto Assault.  Once it's gone, it's gone forever, and the only thing left is videos, screenshots, and memories that will oneday fade.  We all know it'll come someday, the question is, would you care?

EQ was my first MMORPG, broke my MMO virginity as they say.

I dont think I'd go back, too much has happened with SoE for me to give them my money again. The game is just too old, past its time and I can only imagine how bored I'd be the instant I logged in.

Hard to go back, we are spoiled now, graphics wise at least, but EQ took me and many others on an amazing journey, I will allways remember the 1st time we entered NK, the griffs attacked, it was like a scene from a movie!, we ran in every direction as they tore us to bits, hehe, good stuff.

Back then mobs chased you for ages, you often had to zone out, now in EQ2 you just run away a bit, I like how EQ2 looks but its care bear stuff imho.

Aye EQ will allways be what I compare mmorpgs to, and it has not been beaten, argue if you like.

Now I gaze upon shiny new games, but my heart belongs to EQ, its a love that will linger forever.

So if it was to shut down I would not go re-sub to try it one last time, I just need close my eyes and I am there with Lady Vox once again.

My ogre warrior and shaman Baghar met an attractive female and is now a happy father of three little ogres and working as a warrior trainer. I'd rather leave him alone.

    But I miss him

I agree- EQ was an adventure that will forever stay in my mind, heart, body and soul forever.

I was just speaking with my wife this past weekend about MMOs and how they have evolved over the years.  In the early days you didn’t have the flashy graphics, gold farmers, quest walkthroughs, quest video walkthroughs, buff-botters, account hackers and PvP griefers (just to name a few things).  It was just clean fun and the community/guilds were nice and friendly.

I just want to go back to the Karana bridge and get drunk again and drown.  I recall attending a wedding there with my first online guild (forgot the name- it’s been so long).  Here are a few places I’d love to go and see again.

    1. Splitpaw (you gotta know where that is)
    2. Velketor’s Lab (my most favorite of all zones)
    3. Bear Cave (just under Velk’s Lab)
    4. Highpass Hold (goblin room)

I recall my wife banning me from playing when she saw me killing the snow bunnies (placeholders).  She got sooooooooo mad.  She’d see a cute bunny and I’d walk over and SPLAT!  Dead bunny.  Man that memory brings tears to my eyes when I laugh about it now.

I used to laugh when the Monks (main pullers) fell from the icy walkways in Velketor’s Lab and died when they fell.
I used to send them tells and tell them to get up and stop doing Feign Death.  Man, the hate tells I got back from doing that.

EQ will forever be the MMO.  It’s like the Big Bang all in itself.

I know it's been said 100 times before, but if they released a server with only EQ, Kunark and Velious I would subscribe for life.  It really is the game I hold all others to.  So many good memories.

EQ may have been popular back in its time...but...

EQ is no where near the level of gameplay that Asheron's Call had...AC was way ahead of its time, but lack of proper advertising didn't make it as popular as EQ...but it was still damn good.

I don't expect EQ to shut down for at least another 5-10 years.

nah, been there done that- experienced most things in EQ. My disappointment was they didn't expand on the intial EQ and just went in a completely different direction changing the whole game as it went. So nah if it shut down, I'd just remember the experience I once had.(far from perfect but very distinct from other mmos)

The EQ I loved shut down a long time ago.

To be honest a lot of the magic was all in my head anyway.  I was so naive about mmorpgs when I first started playing EQ that my imagination brought the world to life in a way that mere code never could.  I can't recapture that no matter what I do.
