Most played MMO's in the States and ...

Well, this is a question many of my friends and myself are curious about. We in the EU have our tastes, likes and dislikes and I would pressume that are pretty simmilar to these of you in the US.

EU most played MMO's are evidently WoW, LineageII and LoTRo aside with EVE - many ppl plays it on and off - and it shows in some manner the taste of the market at this shore of the Atlantic. I would like to know yours: The most played MMO's in the US and what you think are the singularities of the american taste for MMO's regarding it.

It is a question of fangs.

WoW = most Asian, bots, and things like that.  In the USA, the Americans playing WoW are generally children.  If you have a higher level of education, you simply cannot tolerate WoW or its community.  WoW in a word is wrong. LotR is a lot like WoW as it looks nice but is very shallow without depth; it is all surface.

We play more sophisticated games such as Vanguard, SWG, and EQ 2.  Games with more mature and adult communities in worlds that are not too kiddy but that have more immersion.

Edit:  EVE is too forceful on the player; we enjoy more freedom and liberty in playing.  We do not want to be forced into a guild.

Boycott EA Games. RIP Sim City.

i beg to differ...the way i see it 70% of all people here between the US and Canada are cheap and play free games...such as Rappelz, FlyFF, MU Online, Conquer Online and the likes

Personally I don't think there is much of a difference in terms of gamers between EU and US. I'm not saying everyone is exactly the same, but each examined as a single entity, both sides have a fair distribution of interests across the board in terms of time invested, playstyle, pvp vrs pve, etc. That is, both sides of the pond are melting pots of various gaming types without any one type taking priority.

The only time I would differentiation gaming based on geographic location would be Korean gamers vrs everyone else. Based on both the gamers themselves and the types of games that are developed in that area of the world, its definitely more focused on long, grinding, pvp oriented, aggresive environments. I don't know if thats stereotyping, but thats the impression I get.

Edit: The only other thing I would add is that both sides seems to have their share of rejects that think they are the more mature of the gamers. But they fail to realize that by SAYING that, they show themselves to not be mature. Sad really.

I'm going to assume thats sarcasm?

Anyway, EU and US don't differ all that much, WoW is by far the most dominating MMORPG. Other succesfull MMO's are EQ2, CoH,EVE ,Lotro and surprisingly, Lineage 2

I am serious.  The only people playing WoW are Asians and Asian bots.  The people in the USA that play WoW are mostly children or have the mind of children.  Most educated people will not tolerate the forced-gameplay of WoW or its community.

In North America, people want more freedom --Happy 4th of July!-- in their gaming.  A large world to explore, and an environment conducive to immersion.  North Americans are very discerning.  The 8 million copies of WoW sold are mostly asians and bots and gold sellers with some children (or adults with the intellect of children) in North America.

Boycott EA Games. RIP Sim City.

Um, if your looking at what MMO Americans play the most than its WoW, if your looking for what most American adult's who play MMO's play, it's WoW. So to sum it all up most Americans who play MMO's plays WoW or did play it.

And Eve doesn't force you into anything, if you want freedom to do anything thats the game to play.

Well, you certainly are opinionated and have very little regard for others.

At what lvl of educationi/knowledge does one need to "break the chains" of WoW? Is it just a Masters or PhD? If one likes the music of Elliot Carter, Boulez or Bach are they going to be saved? What do we need to disdain in order to be considered educated? At what lvl of social interaction can we be redeemed?

I would say, honestly, around 7th grade.  I think 7th or 8th plus people begin to realize that WoW is intellectually not very satisfying and its community is not worth the time of day or monthly fee to tolerate.

They way you talk about North Americans makes it seem like you're talking about some kind of wild animal. As if the habits, likes and dislikes of every North American are the same.

Which seems to go against your patriotic, freedom, yippie-kai-yay mother-f*cker beliefs.

    People are unpredictable, in general.

Sorry, I don't see kids playing WoW all that much... If there's any kids, it's mostly teenagers in high school... And the majority of players are adults ( and that's a fact)... I see younger kids go outside and play with eachother... then when we're celebrating a holiday, I see my little cousins playing games like maplestory, or adventure quest... Generally, at that young age, they don't play pay to play game, and I might add, from what I see and what other people have posted, those kiddies are extremely nice and "mature" to an extent in those games, even if they don't act that way in real life... (It's the adults, who are immature, and teenagers too)

That said... most played is WoW definitely ( I saw people looking at it on the computer or talking about it in my Computer Science course... so there you go, young adults at the very least)... Then there's of course other games like CoX or GuildWars or etc... Really, you can just go to their respective forums to understand why these people like these games. People in the west absolutely love customization, bragging rights, etc... That said, there's other reasons as well, but the other reasons don't stand out as much and varies alot...

LMAO............Vanguard.............LoL.....................SWG....................ROTFLMAO....................oh god stop........................EQ2.....................ahhhhhhh..............."sophisticated"................stop, stop...........what is that, the SOE train wreck list????

OP, taste are about the same, if it works in the NA it will generally work in EU and vice versa.........Ignore "Mr Sophisticated".

WoW, Guild Wars a bunch of Free to play games and EVE, L2 are clocked in as the most played in hours at Xfire. Stats clearly show WoW and GW having users numbering in the millions in NA / EU. WoW puts out public info on subs and NCSoft also puts out quarterly statements. All that other garbage is just, well.......garbage.....

LMAO, Vanguard and "sophisticared" in the same sentence........................SWG, geez, I can hardly breath.

No one uses Xfire.  Xfire is just marketing, but some people are foolish enough to use it.

Do not shame yourself and try to get others to use it. LOL.

The fact is most people in WoW are Asians, bots, goldsellers, and children in North America.  Most adults will not play a game as forced and mindless a WoW with its unhappy community of "ubers."  If you are an adult that plays WoW, I am sure you are not smarter than the average child who plays WoW.

WoW has no depth.  No sophistication.  The world is like a child's amusement park.  The end-game is totally forced.  The community is composed of Asians whose command of English is limited and American teens "owning" people with "leetness."  WoW is the anti-christ of gaming without intellect, spirit, and ethics.

Boycott EA Games. RIP Sim City.

So out of the 300 million Americans, only 50 thousand of them play MMO's? Because thats about the population of all 3 of those games together.

In America I have bad teeth. If I lived in England my teeth would be perfect.

every one has their own opinions and we all play what we think is fun. i'm 22 and i don't play wow because i'm bored of it, not because of its "childish" community.  i've done the lvling thing many times and its boring so i don't play it any more. waiting for something new to come out which looks like it will be PotBS.

we are all humans we want some entertainment that is thought provoking and fun.

i think that all of us playing the same games just goes to show you that even though your society tells you that we are different... thats just 'cause they don't want us to get along.

By the way, happy 4th July!

In fact i thought we were adults in EU until Mr."long hands" Smedly came as a Giant and demolished SWG to ruins, then all my guildmates (average age 30) suddenly found WoW as the Mother of All Games - paraphrasing a dictator now so extincted as Joe Feral Druid last neurone  -.

Oh, Vanguard! It wasnt even hyped here! The only advantage is that Eurolanders dont feel dissapointed by Brad's promising the holy land of MMO's. We just have CTD with a more phlegmatic attitude and a sort of Eastern Existencial Fatalism.

It is a question of fangs.

Hmm to look at Xfire, I thought LOTRO would have figured on there but seemingly hasn't. Odd. I know Xfire is usually more adopted by perhaps a certain audience, but it is odd how that audience prefers f2p games and WoW over LOTRO.

Mature adults in the states and europe simply will not tolerate WoW.  It is an Asian game, an Asian bot game, and for American children and adults with the minds of children.

This record seems broken... Anyways, World of Warcraft and Guild Wars are the most played MMO's in both North America and Europe. Period. I am 25 years old, and I have been playing Guild Wars for 18 months+ and World of Warcraft for 9 months+. Personally, I find kids behaving cautiously but they can get a bit on the annoying side (don't take hints, i.e. "enough is enough"), pre-teens/teenagers are very often the immature, unpredictable and/or reckless ones that ruin the gaming experience one way or the other (as one would expect) and mature ones acting as "grown-ups" in most, but not all of the cases (again, as one would expect). I don't think this is rocket science - plus, it only takes the occasional 110% a--hole to ruin a good moment. (Im)maturity is relative...
