How are the station exchange servers doing?

rubydragon5rubydragon5 Member UncommonPosts: 693

I really thinking of coming back to EQ2.

My main motive though is cash, I know I will have fun, but I figure since I play mmorpg's nearly 10 hours a day  every day

I figure I may as well make some cash to.  (im disabled so please no comments about me getting up and going outside)

What concerns me is that I looked on the station Exchange and not much is selling other than 5 pages of characters.

I saw like 10 items, all with zero bids.

Am I wrong. did I miss something?  or is  everyone bailing from the Station exchange servers?   Vox and Bazar

I wont play if im going to be on a barren server.

Maybe I missed something, or is it what it looks like ?

I would appreciate any info.

You are not mistaken.  Very few people care to participate in the Station Exchange.  Even the plat farmers, for whom the Exchange was invented, cannot find business there, so they advertise on normal servers all the damn time.  Why they think people on non-exchange servers are interested in buying money is beyond me.

Then again, why anyone would buy any equipment in EQ2 is beyond me.  It's not exactly hard to come by.

I do not like the station exchange, as a new player.  I am opposed to things like that.

Nevertheless, I really enjoy leveling up and experiencing the content.

It is the only game I feel absolutely zero pressure to level up.  I even feel some pressure in SWG to level up as fast as possible, and people try to give me pointers on how.  In EQ 2, I feel totally relaxed, turned off my experience bar --I never thought I would do that in a game!-- and just enjoy myself.

If they advertise, then some peoples, from time to time, must give in.

So if they sell/buy on the regular servers, blame the players who buy from them.  They willingly buy on a server that it is prohibited rather then play on a server where it is allowed.  I never understand the buyers, and I understand them even less now.  I mean, SOE prolly undercut the prices these guys are asking (unchecked, but must be the case, it is a no brainer that you have to sell cheap); on their station exchange servers.

I have played on the Station Exchange server, The Bazaar, since July 05.  The server has had its ups and downs, but recently, the player base has taken an active role in developing the community on that server.  The population has grown and is still growing with the return of many old players that left the game.

Bots and gold suppliers do not bother with the server because they generally get reported within seconds of spamming or if any bot type activity if suspected.  SoE reacts pretty fast on this server for that type of stuff, but it still happens and will as long as they have the free trial period that does not block chat abilities.

The Station Exchange Website is limited because you can not sell lore items and no-trade items, which is pretty much what drops from most mobs.  Crafted items are really only good to T6, then most people start looking at treasured items with better stats and legendary items.

Overall, if you do not mind paying a few bucks to level up faster then it is the server for you.  The community is growing and very stable with many good guilds to join to improve your playing experience.

Just make sure to not spam the server fourms..

what you mean they have actually started banning bot sellers accounts in EQ2, last time i was there it was running rampant with them and nothing was done. The only good thing with Vanguard was they were banning these accounts from day 1. Not sure if thats happening any longer though since SoE completly own VG now. I would have thought they would be openly trying to sell gold and other such services freely on there by now, just like all the current mmo's out there.

They have been cracking down pretty hard over the past 6 months or so.  I think it all started when WoW filed a lawsuit and SoE seemed to pick up on that and started banning/suspending accounts suspected of botting or selling plat.  There were a few places you could go in KoS to watch the bots and for the most part they are gone now.  Maybe not forever as it is a war I doubt any company can win, but at least they are trying.

I wanted to add that I am not a big fan of SoE, got banned twice on the forums for trying to get rid of sells posts to help foster a community.  The last time was for spam after I made 5 posts.  But in regards to botting and gold sellers, I think they are doing what they can.

I've read they are the lowest populated servers, and for good reason.

No sir, not even close.  PvP servers are hurting, but not the PvE SE server.  Now my favorite server Mistmoore is still strong, which is not a SE server, but that will change soon.

I have played on the SE server since it became available and I LOVE it. The players there are a LOT more mature than the regular servers and grouping with other players is a MUCH pleasanter experience on the Bazaar server. What I don't understand is why the plat farming 3rd party sites spam us too.  We can buy and sell plat, characters, and stuff legitimately!

We have a thriving community and a thriving in-game economy. However, sales of 'toons' is cyclical. Sometimes they sell well and sometimes they don't. It all depends on what character type is best at the moment and how soon a new expansion is coming out. Most crafted or looted items don't sell well because most people prefer to buy plat and then purchase what they want in-game. Also, because of the flat rate selling fee it is expensive to sell and buy 'stuff.'

I really prefer the laid back attitude that has evolved with the legitimate purchases of characters and plat. This stuff goes on in all games and making it 'black market' just adds to the general level of worry that people are 'cheating' and affecting your game negatively. Here, we are all as equal as we want to be ;)

For those who do not want to play with real money, there are other severs. In fact, I have two characters who play on one of the EU servers because that way I won't be tempted to use real cash to advance them. I like both play styles and am happy to have the choice to play both with 'tweaked' characters and non-tweaked characters.

I have played on the Bazaar server since Dec 2005 and have had no problems at all.

There is a good population and great people and guilds to play with.

I am not on sever to sell but just to play and have a great game.

I would say we do have a mature and helpful group of players here and always welcome here.

I agree with the others that the server is fine. There are "harbingers of doom" on all the servers, crying out that the server is dying and the end is nigh. However, I meet new players all the time, and belong to a very active guild with about 90 unique members. And we are far from the largest guild on the server.

As for making money, items don't really sell well. I'm not sure that you could make a living, but you can certainly pay for your subscription and then some, by leveling up characters for sale or by selling items in the game for platinum and selling that.

I believe that the OP is 100% correct, if no one bought the gold on other servers, the sellers would be out of business. I much prefer to have it open and above-board where normal players can make a little money. I just don't understand how people can believe that it doesn't happen as much on the other servers just because its "not allowed".

I also think we have fewer bots on the exchange server just because the platfarmers don't make as much profit there. Yes, they are still around, in part because people outside the US can't use the exchange. But I've heard people complaining of receiving spam tells every day, 20 or 30 times a day. I've don't think I've ever gotten more than a couple, and certainly not every day.

I logged in today after a clip of playing WoW and I have to be honest.  I had more /tells for plat on a 2 week toon in WoW than in EQ2.  I believe that there is nothing these gaming companies can do with their existing strategy.  I was in WoW and got group invites from three diffrent people and joined.  I asked for ten minutes what we where doing and no replies.  I disbanded and reported and 10 minutes or so later some other person sent me a blind invites.  while I was in the groups players were talking about gold sites, do the math.  Now I just cancel the invites and report, but can you see where this is going?  These companies are more concened with new players and free trials than they are about subjecting us to this.  It has to end and it will end now.

I would like anyone concerned about these spam attempts and the interference to their gaming to speak out.  Call SoE and WoW or whatever game you play and talk to them on the phone.  Continue to do so until they listen.

It has reached a point to where we as players need to speak out and make them do something about this.  They have the means and you can make them realize this by calling their support lines on a regualr basis.  Also, use the forums to complain and recruit people that feel the same way.  We pay for these games and should expect more for our dollar.

What do you think would happen if you could not follow through on paying your subscription?
