I don't mind housing if its done right... probably the only people to bother making one will be the PVE crowd anyway. When I say done right, I mean attackable It would be totally wrong to have immune housing in WAR. If I can turn a tower into rubble, it won't make any sense if I can't burn down your bungalow
To the people who don't want housing under any circumstances: You are so very wrong. It is NEVER wrong to want more stuff to destroy/burn
You know.. I like that idea alot! The thought of going and ACTUALLY pillaging and plundering an enemy's house.
SWG had a version of that that I thought was fun.
"...and with that cryptic comment, I'm off to bed!"
After seeing how housing was done in SWG I hope that there isn't player housing. The houses/towns just popped up everywhere, and made the game ugly....Unless the housing is designed into cities/towns/villages. Meaning that the game comes with player housing already in the game, you just have to buy it.
It would be a rather interesting new twist to a game (a reality market). I think it would also help add some to the community if you lived in the town you had to defend. So, you'd have to play X-gold to get your house/belongings back. If sacking of cities occurs once a week, it would be a nice gold sink for the economy.
I think I would be more for guild housing, and the bigger the guild the bigger the house gets. Along with private storage for guildmates and a place to hang trophies up.
I think I would be more for guild housing, and the bigger the guild the bigger the house gets. Along with private storage for guildmates and a place to hang trophies up.
Along with that you could make Guild housing along a scale for how much they cost. EG a guild hall in the capital city costs a ton, so only the truly great guilds could afford them. Villages/towns cost less. So that casual smaller guilds could obtain one as well, but obviously it shouldn't be as grand as the hardcore guild's.
Make them destructible so that people are more likely to defend their town that their guild hall is in. But, make it so you can pay x-gold to get them back.
I don't think they want player housing in the game. I vaguely remember something about Paul not liking the idea of people sitting around decorating a house when there is war going on. They did, however, mention there being guild halls in the game. That would be more appropriate for the constant level of adrenaline they are trying to achieve. Hopefully the guild halls will be decorated with the guilds kills and loot. Would be nice if they were also attackable/defendable.
well if they were attackable/defendable then that would be cool...yet not cool because i don't want to have a huge amount of time spent on making a really nice guild house and have it destroyed in a day. or less..maybe an hr. but i agree it would be fun to take other guilds houses lol its unfair and i know it wont happen. and don't flame me because im not being a total lore-whore please. I just don't want to loose everything i worked hard for in a couple of hrs.
i think the way to go with housing is you have like a designated area where all people build house a very large area and you purchase land in the area and you get more land with guild stature and size and everyone builds there. this way we would have constant raids on each others "real towns" just massive battles all the time who wouldnt want to raid pvp for a HUGE reward of pillaging a good guilds home or be defeated and have to defend your home against the same thing. personally i think that would be a blast.
this game isnt about cooking, or leather working or pansy player or guild housing, its about WAR, i would much rather spend my time fighting one of the huge epic RVR quests or beating the living shit out of some tight arsed dwarf than sitting around a house polishing the trophies or building a new table. if you want houses go play crappy runescape or some other pansy game. its never going to happen in WAR!
PAUL BARNETT FOR PRIME MINISTER! in fact i'm going to put that phase as my sigature.
Funny how you think that WoW is a counter to my point (which, actually, wasn't that player housing is required for sub numbers, but that it's inclusion does not cause loss of subs) when I'd say that WoW's mention actually adds to the other side. Good games with depth and immersion -should- have player housing, in my opinion. Most do (EQ2, UO, DAoC, FFXI, etc.) I prefer instanced housing, myself.
Originally posted by Benz00 well only time will tell. Im 25 years old and have no clue what war hammer is. Nor does anyone i know. I dont think it wil be a flop but it wont have better numbers then d&D
Haha, no clue.
Warhammer will do better than DD0 if it came out today. DD0 isn't DnD nor is it a MMO. It's crap.
I wouldn't mind if they had housing or guild halls, just instance the doors like EQ2 does. It's not like placing a house but god that was a mess in every single game it's ever been done.
If they do it in WAR, the buildings will have to be community owned, which means guildhalls. If they did it any other way, destroying them would be too easy to do when the owner was offline
my opinion is that the guild halls should be attackable and destroyable, much like the capital citys, but like the capital citys they should only be destroyed/"sacked" for X amount of time. So that way rival guilds could have fun messing with each other unlike in WoW where its always "WORLD/SERVER FIRST" i thought that was the lamest part of WoW next to "ding" in guild chat
A point not to be missed is that player housing is where trophies of battle can be displayed. In WoW your character does not exist outside the avatar, so regardless of what you have achieved, it is generally not on display in any way. In contrast player housing in games such as UO and SWG allowed players and guilds to display their success for all to see, from rare items on display to ostentatous displays of excessive guild wealth. Nothing says "we won" like being able to mount a dragon's head on your wall.
100% war(fighting) is boring.IMHO it's an excuse for not having housing. Heck Mythic resisted having player mounts for 3 years.DAOC crafting is just awfull, ask any who have experienced it,they will tell you.(btw I was lgm alchemist....so been there done it).

There will be trophies in WAR, but instead of being mounted in a house you own, they are mounted on your body.

Yes, it is still planned that there will be trophy slots to hang such things on on your character.
If it's instanced I don't see why not. It could be like war camps at each big city.
How can that work though from a technical point of view? Would there be one guild hall in the capital city that when entered offers you a choice of which guild's hall to view? Sounds hard because of the sheer number of guilds and people entering wanting to see different ones.
Someone else said "WAR isn't about cooking, leather making, or pansy player housing" . No, it isn't about it, but that doesn't mean it can't be enhanced by such things in my opinion. What makes RVR such a viable prospect is the pride the players have in their side and skills.
I like the way you can put trophies on your toons, but that is displaying your pride as an individual not as a group. The least Mythic can do is provide a way to "keep score" between factions. Things like how many times city x has been captured, or how influential guild y has been in the world.
The WAR is the most important thing, yes, but its not the only thing important in the game. That's why I lke the tome of knowledge so much.
Sigh......Mythic is not trying to create a game that caters to little clicks of "ub3r" guild members like you see in PvE games like WoW. What they want to do is to foster a feeling of comradeship amongst everyone in a faction. They want to create a open player experience were you pick a side and everyone on that side is your "mate" because you hate the other side so much.
Guilds won't be this "ub3r" club you'll be joining because in reality the greater good of your faction is more important then individual guilds. Thus guild halls may not make it in the game and for sure player housing wont be in the game.
Also guilds will more then likely not be called "guilds" in game. They will more then likely use some sort of military type designation. This removes the individuality to some degree of guilds and ensures people have a feeling that they belong to their faction's armies more so then in PvE games like SWG, EQ1 or WoW were people isolate themselves in individual guilds with their own agendas.
Sure you may be proud of "clan, brigade, platoon, etc..." that you belong too but only because you guys go out of your way to further the goals of your faction server wide.
They want you to feel like you are part of a army. They want you to care deeply about the well being of your faction and others players within your faction. You are not playing a lone hero in this game. You won't be killing the gods, or killing off major names in the Warhammer IP or doing your own thing and end up getting handsomely rewarded for not helping your factions goals.
You will be a grunt on the front lines. You may be part of a elite regiment of soldiers/warriors or you may be a grizzled veteran who has been through many campaigns and fought along side many renowned regiments or you may be a new recruit( aka n00b player ) who has just joined up. In the end though you'll all be fighting for the same goals and striving to support each other server wide.
Mythic has stated that they are designing the biggest rewards so that they benefit everyone who helps out in the major battles in game. They are desigining the game so that (to quote Paul.B) "Everyone Matters In War."
They don't want to put in items/features that only cater to your traditional PvE type "ub3r guild" in the game. So if something is not going to help the WAR effort or further the hatreds and conflict between factions then more then likely it will not be included in the game. Thus you won't be baking cakes, making pretty dresses, building furniture in order to play virtual decorator in the WAR.
WAR is about WAR and about fighting and killing and crushing and destroying the other side. It's about banding together with all your fellow players in your faction to smash the other guy down. It's about the feeling you get after you just ransacked the enemies capital city and you dragged their leader through your own capital city in chains.
To quote the movie Conan....
Mongol Type General: What is best in life?
Conan: To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women.
That is what WAR is about. If you don't get it then this game won't appeal to you IMHO.
Games I've played/tried out:WAR, LOTRO, Tabula Rasa, AoC, EQ1, EQ2, WoW, Vangaurd, FFXI, D&DO, Lineage 2, Saga Of Ryzom, EvE Online, DAoC, Guild Wars,Star Wars Galaxies, Hell Gate London, Auto Assault, Grando Espada ( AKA SoTNW ), Archlord, CoV/H, Star Trek Online, APB, Champions Online, FFXIV, Rift Online, GW2.

I think I know from video and interview what Mythic is trying to do, however, if they didn't want guilds and all that entails, they shouldn't have put them in the game.
I don't care what they call them. Call them clans, guilds, armies... it doesn't matter. People who join guilds will always have more loyalty to their guild mates than their faction as a whole. If Mythic truly wants loyalty to factions, they should have put a ready made "your guild=your faction" type of thing in.

That's one of the great features in POTBS. You may be in a guild, but your guild and all the other guilds' actions will affect the faction your fighting for. I think WAR guilding will be similar since everyones' actions will affect the whole gaming world which will give incentive for guilds to cooperate with each other to create a better community hopefully.

Affect it yes, but we were talking about displaying trophies. Would displaying your guild's trophies in a special place really have a detrimetal effect on WAR as some have said? I don't think it would. The chances are it would be a building within the capital city and vulnerable to being sacked like all the others.
Without the race to grind for the best gear and without the end game raids we all used to do once upon a time, the term uber guild really has no meaning in WAR. Number of members will be the only way to show "uberness" in WAR. I don't think we need to fear a WOW like eliteness appearing.
